Welcome to Amity Tracks. This is a channel where we discuss a wide range of music related topics. The focus will be on music from the 1960’s through the 1990’s, but not exclusively. Classic rock, progressive rock, psychedelic rock, hard rock, jazz, blues, folk, country, soul…all genres are fair game. From time to time we may dabble in other popular culture, such as film, history or sports. But music is primarily what we do here. The focus is on the music and the artists. We hope to encourage an open and dynamic community with fun and informative discussions not only in the videos, but also in the comments section. Please note that, while disagreement and discussion is welcome, no personal attacks or out of bounds comments will be tolerated. We want to be a part of the positive larger vinyl community and other like-minded, music focused communities.

You are correct, Yes Big Generator is a really good album. People love to bag on it, but they are wrong.

Good list. My top 5 would be similar. Joshua Tree #1. But you had one big omission...Bring the Family by John Hiatt.

Great list! Thanks so much for mentioning my channel and R.E.M. countdown. I’m definitely a big fan of yours. 1987 was a pivotal year for me. It was when I started to appreciate “alternative” music. R.E.M., The Smiths, The Cure, The Cult, Husker Du, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Church, The Replacements, etc. Joshua Tree of course and Apoetite and I loved Kick too. Need to revisit that era of Mellencamp at some point. Funny story about Platoon. I had a similar story with a grandpa-type buying my friend and me tickets to Child’s Play.

This is a big year of music for me and being a 9 year old at the time it was an astounding year for music and pop culture here are my top picks INXS kick, Michael Jackson Bad, Bee Gees e.s.p, little Steven freedom no compromise, sting nothing like the sun, Mr mister go on, the cure kiss me, kiss me, kiss me, David Bowie never let me down and Echo and the bunneymen self titled

You may have noticed that our Amity Tracks host is a Jethro Tull hater. To be fair he has not come out and said it in so many words but it's by omission - from every list and video that he's ever done that I have seen.

Apparently you’re not the only person with “Tango in the Night” skipping problems. I found a whole Reddit post on that topic. Maybe next time you go into a record shop, see if they’ll let you test it before buying.

As you said, never too late to get into Midnight Oil! Their most recent album Resist is highly recommended if you haven't heard it already. If it ends up being their swan song, so be it, there are worse ways to go out. But I hope they have more albums in them. Agreed about side two of Tunnel Love and how it overpowers the first side, but I think the entire side is fantastic, a contender for best album side Springsteen ever produced. Just incredibly moving. A few winners you didn't mention: Blow Your Cool by Hoodoo Gurus, Warehouse: Songs and Stories by Husker Du, and a couple of albums by the Meat Puppets, Mirage and Huevos (their so-called ZZ Top album). Nice video.

Hello, yes 1987 was another great music-year. Unexpected comebacks from such legends as Pink Floyd and Fleetwood Mac, both are in my list. Springsteen's "Tunnel Of Love" is such a strong follow-up to "Born In The USA"; he didn't try to release a "Born 2" and that's the strength of "Tunnel" in my opinion. Saw him the first time on that tour back in 1988... four and a half hours, amazing concert. I still like Waters' "Radio KAOS" but Floyd's "Momentary Lapse" is the winner in that battle. Mellencamp is a really good choice, great album. I'm curios for 1988... greetings from germany, bye and take care. My personal top ten: 10. Yes - Big Generator 9. Roger Waters - Radio KAOS 8. Bryan Adams - Into The Fire 7. Bryan Ferry - Bete Noir 6. Robbie Robertson - Robbie Robertson 5. U2 - The Joshua Tree 4. Pink Floyd - A Momentary Lapse Of Reason 3. Sting - Nothing Like The Sun 2. Fleetwood Mac - Tango In The Night 1. Bruce Springsteen - Tunnel Of Love

Does Tango in the Night skip in the same spot every time on your multitude of bad copies? If so, where exactly? I'll have to spin my OG copy soon. Haven't played it for decades, but I don't ever remember having problems with it.

Yeah, it comes up pretty much on the first song and then continues. About halfway into "Big Love" it starts.

Spun my early pressing of Tango in the Night this evening. Not only were there no skips but nary a pop or even the slightest tick is audible. No surprise really since my copy of this LP has rarely made it to my platter. Frankly, we're a long, long ways away from the '75, '77 and '79 glory offerings here. The obvious band boredom that began creeping in on Mirage is in full bloom here on Tango despite the four soft rock mega-hits it spawned. The fire is barely a dying ember here. No wonder Buckingham quit the band after it's release.@@amitytracks

I'm in the middle of a different project and didn't have time to make a 1987 list, but like you, Joshua Tree would be my winner in a strong year. Happy to see you eventually came around to Midnight Oil. They'd be in my top 5 for sure.
