Excellent demonstration and as a teacher I appreciate how you own up to your mistakes. I will be using this video in class as many of my students have trucks of this vintage with this same problem. If you open the door a few inches, take a crow bar and put the end on the door sill and and pry up against the bottom of the door you can take the last bit of misalignment out of the door. Be sure to put padding between the bar and any painted surfaces!
Awesome video! My door came out of alignment and I always thought I had to get a new door welded on. Thanks to you I only have to spend ~$25 and I'll be good as new. Btw love those sound effects..lol...good stuff my man. I wish I had a speaker on me that every time I hit or poked something it sounded like a laser beam.
Thanks! I have an Astro van and I'm tired of having the mechanic pop the hinge back in when I can't get the door open. Now, my 16 year old could fix it. Thanks for drowning out the loud noises with cool music.
good vid i like how you mentioned your better half and how it was her idea, thank god my better half was watching. this was so good she took the job and ran with it to the auto parts store, back and doing her door hinge pins herself,. wtg
This is exactly the info I was looking for; have you posted the follow up about the spring compressor and how to install that? Thanks for this GREAT video !!!!
+Duncan M Thanks, I am working on another video now that shows the removal of the spring for the arm on the roller pin. I hope to have it uploaded in about a week.
Heres a cheap easy way to put the spring in with items you probably have in your toolbox it saves you time/money just be cautious. You can compress the spring with a vice or i've seen others use a hydraulic jack and the frame of the truck & while its compressed use heavy duty zip ties to keep the spring compressed, hold it in place with channel lock/vise grip pliers & carefully cut the zip ties until its in place.I'd wear safety glasses also.
Yeah I'm about to do this and thought the same. I was guna use a hose clamp after I compressed it in my vice and then just loosen it untill it seats correctly. That way it wont shoot out of there.
Spring tip: Use your truck jack to compress the spring. Just place the spring between the jack, and the truck frame, as if you were going to jack the truck up. Once its compressed, put a zip tie around it to keep it compressed. Then cut the zip once the spring is in place.
Thanks for the tutorial. Helpful instructions how to replace the door pins. Do you have another solution in tapping in the pin with the roller without crushing the roller when using a hammer? Would an appropriate size socket over the roller and using a hammer be sufficient to avoid the problem you ran into?
Thanks for all the comments and views. I believe the cost of the parts were less than $20.00. I will be happy to answer anymore questions anyone might have.
@onebigkahuna69 Thanks. It shouldn't take more than 2 hours. I actually had jack stands with rags on top so they would not scratch the door. You just need someone or something to balance the door. Good luck and let me know if you have anymore questions.
Thanks for the video i have a ford ranger and i'm having to replace the door pins on the drivers side door and they only had one set of pins for a a ranger but a buttload for for s10's.Mines been messed up for awhile and messed up the latch on the door.how long did it take and can use a floor jack instead if you don't have an extra set of hands.?
thanks for uploading. i've favorited this video because i'm planning on doing this job on my 89 c1500. i have the same exact problems as you did. i bought the truck awhile back and it was always an issue. the top of the door has rubbed so much against the cab that its grinded down to the metal and rusts when it rains. how much did you pay for each part? thanks.
Great tutorial sir. Question. I gotta 99 s10 that is leaking in heavy rain and car wash from the top of the driver side door. Seals look great, so I have a feeling it is from door sag. You think that sounds like it could be the culprit?
Mine is sagging too, but when i move it up and down there doesn't seem to be any play in the bushings. Could it be something else, or just bent a little?
McCart VehicleAccessories, I am having trouble trying to find the roller pin for my 1987 s-10 blazer. Do you by chance have the part number for the roller pin from Needa parts or can guide me where I can find a replacement . Thanks!
+Seba Marti Have you found one? I have done a little research and I don't see one available. Check to make sure it is not made in the hinge. if it is you probably need to change the hinge.
4589scott I have done some research. It looks like the roller pin comes with a new hinge kit but not alone. I currently have a 95 Jimmy and it does not look like the roller pin is replaceable.
McCart VehicleAccessories I actually saw a video where a guy cut & grinded the old pin out and replaced it, I'm not sure if I want to tackle that though, lol.
Well you're not exactly replacing the hinges itself you're actually just replacing the pins and bushings so if anybody has a video that you're actually drilling out the whales because they hinges are welded on show a video of that
I did all this to my door ,it took all the up and down play out of door ,but door still rides about a quarter inch to low and wont line up with striker .
