I hate that it took me around 10 hours of hardcore searching just to find the ONLY PLACE ON THE INTERNET that references this exact thing. I have a 1990 that has a blend door that's stuck, I have been trying to track down what vacuum lines run it, and this is exactly what I was trying to find. You're a godsend, from ten years in the past. o7

Thanks for posting this!..... I watched this video twice... Got up, went out to the garage and repaired the Heater Control... per your video.... The crazy part is, I used the clear line from a Glass Cleaner bottle for my new line.....Works fine!... Thanks again!

Oh thank God it's so hard to find videos for 88 Dakota's I look left and right and I keep getting either two or three years lower or two years higher I'm not looking for those years I'm looking for a specific year and you can find the videos I'm definitely going to watch this channel a lot more because I have myself and 88 Dakota and despite her issues she's been the best damn truck I've ever had and it'll be nice to know what I'm working on just in case things go south

I actually don't drive this vehicle any more so I'm probably not going to be doing any more videos on it. I still have the truck and hope to completely restore it one day. 😊

Thanks for the video. I do plan to subscribe. I read in the comments that you still have that truck, I just got a 92 3.9 and all of the vac lines have been messed with. Would you consider making a video of your lines? If I could just gat a clear shot of what runs where and where the check valves go it sure would be appreciated. Thanks again either way.

Its not fuel injected :'( but thanks for your help and I will try replacing the control panel I guess pretty much have tried everything else
@brianmcdrummer
@brianmcdrummer 9 лет назад
Tyffini Wieglenda It would be worth it to locate the vacuum line. It may come out of the carburetor and the hole on the carburetor might be blocked. I believe the vacuum is created by the airflow rushing into the engine because the engine has to breathe. That occurs where gas enters the intake manifold. The carburetor fits on top of the intake manifold. Forgive me for telling you all of this if you already knew. :)

It come off the heater control valve and goes in to the fire wall I tracked it along the inside of the dash and over by the glove box cant tell where it goes from there its a pain in the ass thats for sure lol it just has no suction at all on that vacuum line and I wondering if that would be why no heat
@brianmcdrummer
@brianmcdrummer 9 лет назад
Tyffini Wieglenda Haha! I know it can be a pain. You actually need to locate the vacuum line coming off of the carburetor because that's where the suction originates. The line you need to look for goes into the break booster. :) Then you may have to remove your carburetor to make sure all of the holes are clear and clean. If you do this I would pick up a gasket kit for your carburetor because some of them may be damaged when you clean it.

Is there anyway I can get in contact with you through somewhere else to potentially send pictures of the lines of my truck? It’s a 1990 dodge Dakota rwd and the brake pedal sinks to the floor and the brakes don’t work. It sounds like airs in the brake booster bad and the one line possibly the vacuum line looks cut but I’m not sure what it ks

+I.D.P. It may be your distributor, rotor cap or rotor button. I'm really sorry I would not know exactly where to start on an issue like this. You may need to get it to a shop or just start replacing as many parts as you can but that could get expensive.

I have replaced the heater control valve. That vacuum line that goes to it does not suck or blow and air I am wondering if it could be plugged and where does it go insode of the truck
@brianmcdrummer
@brianmcdrummer 9 лет назад
Tyffini Wieglenda Once it comes into the truck it plugs into an actuator and then comes out of the same actuator and into the back of the assembly where you can change the fan speed, temp, AC or no AC etc etc...

Part number on check valve?
@billstickan1007
@billstickan1007 8 лет назад
The vacuum line to the heater control valve on my truck has broken due age. My line is a very fine plastic gray line that runs thru the firewall along with the vacuum line from the brake booster. How do you get the vacuum lines thru the firewall.? Where does the heater vacuum line connect under the dash?
@brianmcdrummer
@brianmcdrummer 8 лет назад
There are actually two vacuum lines that go through the firewall and are connected together in a plastic part. I could not find the part that connects the two together so I unscrewed the plastic piece from the firewall and ran two separate lines. To find the grey line you'll have to trace it underneath the dashboard. Hope this helps. :)

Good day i have on of those trucks and i am having an issue with my transmission. After the truck gets warmed up, then and only then will it take reverse. Any ideas.
@brianmcdrummer
@brianmcdrummer 7 лет назад
Not sure. I would have a transmission take a look at it. Sorry I couldn't help. :)
@GGigabiteM
@GGigabiteM 6 лет назад
Check the transmission fluid first. If you have an automatic transmission, you most likely have a Torqueflite 904. The transmission dipstick is on the passenger side of the engine bay, behind the exhaust manifold. While the 904 is known for being robust, they tend to start leaking badly from the seals in their old age so you'll need to regularly check the fluid levels. To check the transmission fluid, you'll need to park the truck on level ground and start it up. Push in the emergency brake and shift the transmission into neutral, then you can check the level. If nothing shows up on the dip stick, or if low, you'll need to add transmission fluid. It uses ATF+4 fluid. If there is fluid on the stick and it's brown, you need to get your transmission serviced very soon. If the transmission fluid is black, then you likely have transmission damage. If you see glitter in the fluid, you definitely have transmission damage and changing the fluid will likely finish it off. The glitter you see is the clutch material, so basically the fluid becomes a working fluid instead of a lubricant and when you change to clean fluid, the friction properties are lost. But judging from your description of the problem, you are just very low on transmission fluid. The Torqueflite 904 takes 12 quarts, so I would add enough to get it going and take it to a transmission shop to be looked at. I recently had my 904 rebuilt because 2nd gear was slipping and the shaft carrier bearing failed, it was about $1100. Though mine failed from old age, 30 years and 216k miles.

Maybe you can help me with my cruise control issue? It engages but loses power and speed and can’t maintain. It worked when I got my 87 Dakota 3.9L last summer. But now it won’t. Any ideas?
@brianmcdrummer

I had the same thing happen to me. I had to replace the cruise control servo with a used one from a junk yard and then that one went out. I'm not sure if you can find them new.
@brianmcdrummer
@brianmcdrummer 3 года назад
Check the wire on the servo first. It may be shredded.

@tyffiniwieglenda5880
@tyffiniwieglenda5880 9 лет назад
Ok and so my best bet would to replace that control panel? Does that make the vacuum line on the heater control valve work or where does it get its suction from?
@brianmcdrummer
@brianmcdrummer 9 лет назад
Tyffini Wieglenda I'm assuming your truck is like mine and it's fuel injected. If it is, the suction comes from the back of the throttle body. There's a hose from the back of the throttle body that connects to the brake booster and vacuum lines that come off of the brake booster go through the fire wall and into the truck. If you replace the control panel it may help but it's hard to say without having the system tested.
@tyffiniwieglenda5880
@tyffiniwieglenda5880 9 лет назад
you talk about the grey line where does that lead to and how do you check to see if the vacuum is working on it? on mine i take it off at the heater valve and it does nothing.

I have an issue. the heavy line from the brake booster goes to a plastic screw to the back left [looking at the engine from outside] of the tbi on the engine. that plastic screw has 3 smaller valves for hoses coming off of it, but mine [hoses] are broke off and puffs out air when trying and failing to start. what is it called and where do my missing hoses come from/ suppose to go from here? 91 v6

i have a 1988 dodge ram b250 3/4 ton van. how do i check the lines that control the climate control ? i get heat when on bi level and vent but when i switch to defrost or heat, it seems to not re-direct the vent position. what could cause that? the fan works at all speeds but the vents are not re-directing . any ideas???? i have the 318 5.2 v8
@brianmcdrummer
@brianmcdrummer 9 лет назад
You'd have to take it to someone who can test the vacuum lines for any leaks. It may be the actuator that controls that particular blend door or the controller that allows you to change the fan speed, or switch between Heat or AC. It would be hard to figure it out without seeing your truck. I hope this helps.

@brianmcdrummer
@brianmcdrummer 7 лет назад
Sorry it took me so long to reply. RU-vid stopped sending me e mail notifications so I'm really backed up on my responses. I believe it's the Combination Differential and Metering Valve and helps to regulate front and rear breaking depending on the vehicle load condition.

how do these lines effect the heater and/or brakes? I am having issues with both, and was thinking that it was just the brake booster, but if this effects the function of either or both, that would explain a few things
@brianmcdrummer
@brianmcdrummer 7 лет назад
The brake booster and heater are controlled by vacuum that is received from the lines connected to the throttle body. Hope this helps. :)
@NiceCat333
@NiceCat333 7 лет назад
if the heater and ac stop working and the brakes are hard to push in and take more time to stop the truck, would that be a problem from these lines? or would that still be from the actual brake booster?
@brianmcdrummer
@brianmcdrummer 7 лет назад
It could be a couple of things. Do you know if the throttle body has ever been cleaned? I would check the vacuum line that connects to the PCV valve on the drivers side valve cover for suction. Do the same for the line that connects to the brake booster. If there's suction then it's probably only a problem with the brake booster. As far as the heat I would check the suction on the vacuum line that connects to the heater control valve. You may have to replace the heater control valve but it may also be a problem with the actuator that controls the heat and cold or a clogged heater core. Before you start buying a bunch of parts you may want to have someone who knows about that truck to take a look at it first hand. Hope this helps! :)
