I bought one of those at the drift store, it was with the records, I thought it was the Batman soundtrack. Those things are in the same exact size boxes that records come in. It's nice to look at I guess, I can't f*cking do anything else with it.
The 1997 DVD is a Laserdisc port of this similar master. I love it since its the closest to the movie looking as accurate as it can to the original film, and since its a Laserdisc master the sound is just as good imo. Still need the Laserdisc for that LPCM track though!
@@MidnightsEdgeAfterDark Yup thats true. Batman '89 and Returns have always been brightened for its home releases since the Laserdisc and early DVD days. The recent 4K is the more accuractely dark but it has that damn blue tint and the awful Dolby Atmos remix which makes it unwatchable for me. A real shame because that was a great scan that WB had to muck up for no reason.
Love your updates! I just got the Director's Pan & Scan Edition of True Lies yesterday which plays in Super 35 1.33:1 aspect ratio! Looks amazing on my 100" projector screen!
I have this from the Japanese pressing. THE PCM is incredible. I also have Returns. The other day i also put on The Special Edition of Terminator 2 which is a gold rental disc. I also found that i had some widescreen Star Trek discs i had forgotten about like the directors series Star Trek IV, Star Trek III, and i also found my THX Goldfinger. North by Northwest rental disc, a bunch of anime and several criterion discs like Akira CLV, King Kong CAV, Blade Runner, Adventures of Robin Hood, the Wizard of Oz and Ghostbusters. Plus CAV Forbidden planet MGM, Criterion and Japanese.
@@matthewgaudet4064 Aww man thank you, that’s what these little videos are about, sharing enthusiasm for this old format and hopefully getting a few people interested 👍
Some of those players have gotten more expensive. I'd love to hear them because I have Batman on DVD and it sounds awful. They fixed the mixing on blu ray and 4k blu ray, but I've heard they pale in comparison to laserdisc due to trying to appeal to the cinephiles of the time.
This laserdisc sounds fantastic to me… very full and dynamic 👍 Keep searching if you are looking for a player, I’m always on the look out for a second dvl 909 or a 919… I’d take a 700 as well. Just gotta be the right player at the right time for the right price. 👍
So I know in earlier videos you say this Sony OLED does better direct in with the composite than your Retrotink 5x. I guess it’s my tv (a cheaper TCL QLED) but I find the exact opposite. Granted, my tv also has an issue directly importing the composite signal over its AV jack, where these an almost 1/8th bar on the side of the image that lacks color.
Might depend on what tv it is… I actually have issues with bars and stuff like that on the scalers but on the tv I don’t have it… This tv has a very good high quality scaler in it… the X1 ultimate chip by Sony.. that might have a lot to do with it… and on top of that dialing in my setting to complete the image.
Nice, I’m running a similar setup with a 55” 4K screen and a polk 5.1 audio setup. I currently have this movie on the 2004 digitally remastered DVD. Picture is far better than the initial DVD release which has to be one of the worst I’ve seen. Are you running the audio through all your speakers or just the front two? Either way it sounds like it would be awesome in person
I used to have the 2004 version, i liked the quality of it. I’m using the Dolby surround upmixer and it is outputting sound through all channels…. It sounds pretty darn good for what it is for sure.👍
I got to ask where would I pick up a laser disk player that flips the disk itself ? And I checked eBay and alot of them on there are for parts only. So I was wondering where could I get a nice laser disk player for a decent price ?
Check offer up and market place, depending on your area you may have some luck, my area not so much, I purchased mine from a friends relative, I got lucky. I do see some great 909’s on eBay very so often, keep your eye out. It can be a little hard to find a good one that’s in good shape but don’t give up 👍
Facebook marketplace / got my player on eBay for $50 shipped. It was for parts and mine was a find because it just needed the front panel fixed which took no time.
I cant stop thanking about Laserdisc lately. I have maybe 10 and a broken player but I'm debating picking up a new player and some new discs... 4K for some films is starting to fall out of favor with me a bit.
If it’s in your budget to get another player I would highly recommend it, and there is nothing wrong with running all formats including 4K Blu-ray… I’m kinda done with them myself but I do have some and if I get the urge to watch them I will… for now I’m enjoying the laserdisc thing and dvds again… been having a blast
@@StarWarsSyndrome oh yeah I agree, 4K can be amazing with some transfers but others are a curiously bad, i.e. Cameron's recent films. I dont like that films are getting away from their theatrical releases... For instance the color timing with Heat. So most of the time I'm grateful I kept the DVD or in some cases I want to own the laserdisc to see that older transfer
@@StarWarsSyndrome I mean it is. But slightly false when you imply it’s the better version of the movie than the dvd version. You say “original version.” But it’s by far inferior to every DVD release after that. Laserdisc is using an outdated 2.0 Dolby sound instead of a 5.1 and has a non anamorphic widescreen video unlike the DVD release. It’s got only the slightest better of resolution than a VHS. Not really sure exactly what the advantage is of laserdisc besides placebo over DVD. Btw both are terrible and in the year 2024 makes absolutely no sense to watch. Really just makes sense to collect them as a hobby. But that part is just my opinion.
