As a former PA flight attendant, I remember these flights from Rio to BA fondly. The view from the plane as we departed Rio was one of the best in the PA system, looking down on the Sugarloaf, Corcovado and the famous Rio beaches of Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon. How I miss those days. Flying has never been the same.
And how were the flights like for the crew? You would go to GIG and then have a layover in EZE? Or in GIG as well? Did they have flights to GRU/EZE or just GIG/EZE? It must have been fenomenal to work for Pan Am!!!
There was a daily flight JFK GIG and MIA GIG they arrived at same time in GIG one flight continued to GRU and the other most of the time in EZE. so GIG was an interchange for all destinations
@@tommyboybr I flew with PA from 1978 - 1983. Those were still good years for the company. After that their money troubles began to affect employee morale and customer service finally ending in their demise in the early 1990's. PA was the gold standard in international flying. The application process for a PA flight attendant was very competitive as these positions were highly coveted. It was something special to be selected and most PA flight attendants loved their jobs and were very proud of the company. It was indeed phenomenal to work for them.
Legendary Pan Am experience. Videos like these are like national treasures, few people who could afford a video camera or wanted to film these gems deserve a medal! Thank you so much for sharing this outstanding travel experience with us on the best airline the world had!
Absolutely love this. Those old 747s were so spacious. I remember flying from LAX to HNL that had a piano in the upper deck lounge...Oh! The entire upper deck was a lounge! Also fondly remember Continental Airlines had what they called "The Flying Pub" in the middle of the DC10. These amenities were substantial and took up a lot of space, unlike the meager attempts they make these days. That one Emirates has is pathetic in comparison. Not at all inviting.
1:16 wow, just shows how flying was much more friendly in these years... nowadays most trip reporters are given the death stare by flight attendants or just come up to them mid-recording and say "yOu CanT vIdeOTaPe On PlAnEs"
Love the video. Maybe a dumb question - is it piecing together two different flights? On pushback it seems like you're filming an old livery 747, but in the earlier shots it showed two "new" liveries at the gates.
That was after Lockerbie ... and they loaded always quite a number of local traffic GIG-EZE in Rio de Janeiro, beside of the connecting passengers of the flight from MIA which arrived same time in GIG.
