Watching this again it makes you realise how brave Unbridled was. There was NO GAP to go for between Thirty Six Red and Ibn Bey but he just bullied his way between them. You also have to give massive props to Pat Day: the conventional move in that situation would have been to switch right, in which case he would have finished second by a head and we'd still be crying about how unlucky Unbridled was on the day.
Unbridled´s trainer Carl A. Nafzger (Born August 29th, 1941) was awarded with the highest honours of two different sports in the same year: In 2008 he was inducted to both National Museum and Hall of Fame Racing in Saratoga Springs, New York and to Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame. Before he was involved to horseracing, he was a championship Rodeo bullrider. Congratulations Mister Nafzger! Greetings from Venezuela.
Redemption for Pat day after last year s easy goer ride. Just goes to show SS was the better horse that season. A masterful ride on a closer with one good run at the end. Few jockeys could thread the needle in deep stretch like he did.
