1990's USAF & USN Air Wing vs 2020's USAF & USN Air Wing (WarGames 130) | DCS 

Build a modernized tomcat with an overpowered aesa radar similarly overpowered to the original in its day lots of aim260s and f22 engines. Wonder how many aim260s would realistically fit. And mach 3 tomcat?

I blame you GR for my having to give up my early retirement attempt! It is the only way I can afford the flight hardware and system to get in on the fun I watch you all having almost daily here in DCS. Peace.

If you want more of a challenge, then fight with the 1980's USAF. Same planes as the 1990's USAF but equipped with AIM7 Sparrow and AIM9L Sidewinders.

Thank you for explaining how the missile/plane AI works in DCS with your updated missiles. Makes alot more sense that way when you use fire at max range all the time.

If Sock had taken anything BUT a Tomcat I would have been very surprised lol.

It would be interesting to see a multisided battle, 5 different teams. Gen 1 gets 60 jets, gen 2 gets 40, gen 3 gets 20, gen 4 gets 10, gen 5 gets 5.

Tossing this idea out there Cap. How about modeling the Time-on-Target scenario of the _"Top Gun - Maverick"_ movie. SAM the mountains and see who, 1) runs the ingress course successfully, 2) hits the target, and 3) survives the egress _“Coffin Corner”?_

Given the simulator limitations, perhaps you could stagger the 2020 planes to takeoff in pairs every 3 or 5 minutes from each of the 3 airports to de-conflict targeting? Might be able to reduce the 5 to 1 kill rate on the longer range missiles with fewer in the air at once. It'd be more work, but might simulate the current tech a bit better. Good video overall.

Have you guys considered setting the newer systems up with ONLY AIM-260s? The AI might see the AIM-9X on the rail, and then follow the "fire at maximum range" order as it applies to that missile. In order to fire the AIM-9X at max range, they'd have to dogfight. To be fair, they may also see the ammo for the cannon and do the same with that. The AI may actually do a thing if you take away everything that could be used up close.

Video request for the new modernized naval units, 1 US carrier strike group vs. all 6 type 45 uk destroyers, both queen Elizabeth carriers, and whatever British / EU strike package you see fit. If that is too much for the servers, maybe a modern interpretation of the John Paul Jones raids on the UK. Something like 1-2 AB destroyers trying to hit targets on mainland Britain.

Would be cool to see the same thing again, but on a $ for $ basis - perhaps even ignore inflation. I still think 2020s would win, but it'll still mean more boom boom.

Probably both planes and missiles have gotten more expensive also in these three decades. Would be interesting to see this run with not the same numbers but the same money's worth on each side. =)

I do think it's interesting to see the rate of tech progression. It's actually very well demonstrated by the cost of an Aim 54 vs an Aim 260. Technically it's $420k vs $2+ mil, but once inflation is accounted for, the Aim 54 is $4m and the Aim 260 is $2+m. Which means the Aim 260 is actually CHEAPER as well.

Tomcat RADAR was indeed very good for its day through pure brute strength (of signal) - but even that came off second best in European red flags against Sea Harrier and Blue Vixen which punched far above its weight and the incredibly tight integration with AMRAAM made Sea Harrier better than the sum of its parts. Blue Vixen was one of the world's first fighter-sized RADARs with completely digital return processing which could not only oversample to find small returns out of the background clutter - it was "unnotchable" as most modern RADARs are now. Traditional all analogue RADARs ignored small returns not increasing or decreasing in strength to filter out clutter. Blue Vixen was one of the first RADARs that could deal with that issue by the power of real time digital return processing rather than throwing useful data away. 25 plus years later the Europeans are still struggling to better child of Blue Vixen in the Eurofighter Typhoon - CAPTOR-M. AESA RADARs may be far better at multi-tasking (they are) - but at long range search and track CAPTOR-M is still amongst the best - AESA RX/TX elements tend to overheat in high power search settings going into cooling strategies that limit RADAR performance. None of these issues are modelled in DCS though which gives AESA RADARs an unfair advantage. Indeed tranche 3+ Typhoon can detect and track any stealth fighter beyond the useful range of AIM-120D. The Americans put all their eggs in the stealth basket and forgot to keep up with air to air weapons - which they've finally realised and are trying to catch up. Advanced DSP has made stealth aircraft rather expensive and pointless - yes it's useful to have a smaller RCS - but if you can be tracked you can be tracked - small RCS or not.

I kind of think that the actual service designation of the F-15EX will end up as an F-15F. Personally, I hope they build an "F-15G" as in a single seat variant of the F-15EX. I think this would be a great modern version of the "Eagle Charlie". Of course, I could also see a "Block 70" spec F-16XL fitted with a loadout of AIM-260s as well. Maybe with a reduced observability modified intake (the bump in front and a forward swept intake trunk)

Too bad the F-117 can't carry a couple AAMRAM in it's bays, because it'd be nice to plod a few Nighthawks in on the 90's side. Or, perhaps, convert a 90's B-2 into a missile-truck... surely the USAF thought about adapting the cruise missile rotary racks to carry a boatload of air-to-air's .

Hey Cap, may I ask how you manage to modify the F-22 mod by Grinelli? It would appear that the version that I have is compiled of some sorts making it impossible for me to modify.

Try to do a WW2 German and Japanese carrier group vs WW2 American and British Carrier Group (latest technology for all countries before the war ended or just the latest you can find) and also I have another idea, I don't know if you can do this or not in game but if you can, can you try to do a carrier group battle of Russia vs America vs China vs Britain (2025)

I had a dream last night which was clearly inspired by your videos, and it seems silly enough for you actually try it, so I'll turn it into a request: If/when you get the Star Wars assets working again, dogfights of various eras of jets vs. the Millennium Falcon. The inspiration was 1-on-1 guns only, but you can do whatever you want with the idea to make it fun.

I really like this idea, much more than the silly battles. Compare same nationality just different generations. You could do this for other countries, newer gen team has to shoot down all enemies older gen team wins by shooting down 1 enemy

AIM-9X is not really available in 1990s tho, ioc is 2003.

This is an issue with the AI, not understanding that its always advantageous to fight the battle at a time and place of our choosing, fighting to our strengths and the enemies weaknesses.
