Ah yes, back in the days when we were GREAT! God I miss these days! 1990 Giants my favorite of all the championship teams. Hard nosed, smash mouth football! Great coaching, great execution, minimal mistakes. Forgot what that was like.
I loved the 86' team. That was the most dominant Giants team we've ever had. But the Simms and most of the Manning years have been pretty damn good. Can't complain.
I was 15....I walked (sprinted actually approx 2.5 miles) to Giants stadium with 2 friends at halftime bc you could get in the 4th qtr for free. We did...and watched NYG finish putting a beating on Marino and co! It was awesome bc you couldn't get tixx back then and I had no money anyway! It was sick! GO BLUE!!!!
The 1990 Giants defense held eight teams to 10 or fewer points that year, and only one team scored more than 30 (31, Eagles). Miami only got 3 points this game. I've been watching the Giants since the early 80s, never seen a better defense.
This was a real measuring stick game for the Giants. The Dolphins were a very good team that year but the Giants manhandled them. It was the first clue that this could be a special season.
The Dolphins were 12-4 during that season but you couldn't compare the Dolphins offensive talent level with the Giants defense. It was no match. Whenever Clayton and Duper and that Dolphins offensive line, played against hard nose defensive teams like the Giants, they often didn't win. There's only so much Marino could do. The Giants were a much better team overall.
Not true that Duper and Clayton couldn't beat bump n run, that's b.s.. Size doesn't equal strength, Clayton was pound for pound possibly the strongest player on the Dolphins. At 190 lbs he could bench 300 plus... Both embarrassed Deion in 1992. Marino was one dimensional, no threat to run, and his offensive lines were built to pass protect, they couldn't run block. You wont beat the better defenses with just passing, hence ringless Dan.
Phil Simms talks about this game in his book. About how the Giants offense was totally boring but the crowd was still totally engaged because they were smart enough understand that the Giants game plan was to slowly grind it out and take the ball out of Mario's hands.
To put it in more perspective.... The Dolphins 4 losses were to the Giants (1990 Super Bowl Champion) Redskins (1 year away from a Super Bowl Championship, 1991) The 2nd Buffalo game ( 1990 Super Bowl representative, plus in their dynasty years) The Raiders (made the AFC Championship Game against Buffalo) Then they escaped with an OT win against the Eagles who were always in the mix in the NFC East. So when you look at it that says a lot. That the Dolphins were a good team, but they were not built fully to beat those teams in the 4 losses. All 4 of those teams within 1990-91 were in Championships and Super Bowls. It's too bad really that the Dolphins couldn't get passed Buffalo in their own division. They were a thorn in their side from 1987-1995.
Marino only faced the Giants twice in his career was 0 2. This loss and he lost to Giants again in 96 at Miami. Always weird circumstances why he didn’t face Giants that much. 1987 game was cancelled cause of strike and he missed 1993 meeting cause he tore his Achilles.
This is what Giants football was all about, punching the opponent in the mouth for 60 minutes by running the ball down their throats and shutting down the opponent physically, mentally and psychologically. Not a coincidence that they haven't been successful since they've gotten away from what got them to 4 Super Bowl victories, hopefully Joe Judge can begin pointing the Giants in the right direction.
Several Dolphins suffering broken jaws and smashed teeth and broken faces from constantly being punched in the mouth in this game. They were not prepared to face an NFC team with the massive force and hitting power of the Giants.
I've been a Giants fan since the early 80s. From then well into the 2000s, the Giants had quite a run of good teams and 4 rings. As fans we got spoiled. Hasn't been as great the last seven years, but overall I certainly can't complain.
4 and 5 in the SB is impressive. 5 and 0 in the NFC Champion ship is very impressive. My favorite Giants were the 80s teams up until Simms and Taylor retired. They were feared by other teams. The Manning era was good too. Eli deserved a better team. His last few years he could have had one or two more SB rings. I love watching these Simms and Taylor games. Simms was a General. I had much confidence back then.
This Giant team played tough all the time, even their losses that year were close games except the 2nd time they played the Eagles. They beat the 49ers that year and the 9ers were 14-2. Good old days.
15:16 32:43 ... those were the days .. brings back memories watching dolphin games down here in s. florida waiting for the ticker or an update video on my steelers .. aside from those who had satellite access? not sure when that became a thing .. for most of us regular folks, you were watching the game but also anticpitating that 10 min ticker .. your only chance to see the scores in other games .. or one of their 'update clips' .. it was a big thing .. the mystery of it all .. not knowing or being able to see what was happening in other games .. so it was a treat when they showed the ticker or an 'update video' of a particular game .. you weren't just 'entitled' to see any game .. you had to wait for the ticker or an update video .. like it had some value .. now everything is saturated .. you can check anything at anytime with endless options to check .. you can just pull up any game online at anytime .. you don't need updates .. no mystery, no intrigue
LT licking his chops at finally getting a chance to go against Marino and get a sack on the quick release QB legend. He had to wait all the way until his 10th NFL season. These teams hardly ever met in the regular season. This was only their second meeting all time. Ridiculous !!! The earlier meeting was way way way back in 1972 when the Dolphins beat the Giants to go 13-0-0 on their way to a historic 17-0-0 season.
@@jamesgurksnis4392 I loved those odd quirks about the schedule that occurred when everything wasn't divisible by four like it was when Houston came into the league as the 32nd team in 2002 and they realigned the divisions. I didn't realize the Philadelphia/Kansas City gap, but a few oddities I recall off the top of my head: the Jets didn't play St. Louis/Phoenix/Arizona between 1978 and 1996; it took thirty-four seasons for Buffalo and Tampa Bay to finally meet in Buffalo (Tampa came into the league in 1976 and didn't visit Buffalo until 2009); and despite being in the same conference Green Bay visited Washington in 1979 and not again until 2004.

Right at the end of the game, LT tweaked his hamstring. How he didn't get pulled out of the game during the final plays is just crazy. He just come back from a holdout and wasn't 100% healthy. That could of cost the Giants, but luckily he was able to play the next week.
Thanks for the uploads Ken, I have enjoyed reliving some of the great Giants teams I would brag about in middle and high school. Anyone hear that dot matrix printer working hard during the halftime score rundown?
