I have exactly the same generator. I work at a disposal place and guy dropped it off in scrap pile. Brought it home, cleaned carb n replaced fuel line. Works great. Been using it on off grid camping trips ever since. It's crazy the things people throw away. I biult a 40x80 shed / shop and i think just about everything in it was thrown away by someone. Chainsaws, hoist, miller welder, bandsaw, air compressor, table saw, 20hp Kohler v twin garden tractor and attachments, this generator, my fishing boat and all my power tools. Sometimes u have to by a part for something n tune things up. Just shows to me that a lot of people out there have to much money.
Mine BARELY got us through an ice storm - it ran fine, but just didn't have the output we needed. I was recently given a Chinese 7500w unit that's practically new, and after going through the entire unit, I was able to work out all the bugs and it powers everything we need. The Honda is still going, but I gave it to a co-worker to use on his vacant land.
@bbishoppcm Yeah, I haven't had any problems with it. The only complaints I have, if I'm picking, is the noise level and gas consumption. Guess for an older unit that's to be expected. I've considered purchasing a new generator with a remote start, but we will see..
That engine Type brings back memories, I used to volunteer for a railway museum with a miniature railway, one of our mini locomotives ran on a Chinese Honda clone engine ....... did the job for few years....
You are correct those Honda Generators are well built and will last forever. I have a Honda EG-2500 watt generator, looks just like yours. I purchased it brand new around 1995. We use it for power outages and it is now hooked up to a transfer switch. We live in Pennsylvania and do loose power during winter storms. I always start with the heater and refrigerator first, after that shut off the heater when the house is warm and turn on lights and TV for the wife. One thing you forgot to mention, these small Honda’s run for ever on the 1-gallon of gas the tank holds.
thx...im considering one of these in even better cond.... they are obsolete but do last. My question is: Can you do anything to quiet it? Maybe a better muffler? I do know bout the plywood on the sides angled away at the bottom of unit trick
1) yes, it is indeed running lean. I need to clean the jets at a minimum. 2) loose linkage? No. 3) I’ve been servicing small engines since I was nine years old; I’m 35 now. For someone who doesn’t know what he’s doing, I have had very good luck over the years.
@@bbishoppcm All of that may be true. But I graduated from the prestigious 8-hour EZWorks course. Now I'm a certified Master tech. Also I forgot to mention in my previous post is that your spark plug is most likely crystallized.
@@justonnie How does a brand-new plug become "crystallized?" Either you're trolling, or perhaps... just perhaps... your degree in microenginomics is fraudulent.
Will it run, yes it will! That's a Honda GX200 engine and they are awesome! Harbor Fright tools sells a cheapo China clone but you have an original real Honda one, take care of it and it will last forever! KEEP IT!! if the power goes out it will power your whole house! Not just the furnace it's 2kva.
If you do as I do and keep the lights on in the room you are in at the time and shut them off when you aren't there. It can easily run one room of LED lights and your laptop plus the furnace and refrigerator also how to have a super cheap electric bill, don't leave the lights on.
small engines are great when they run, it's just that when they don't run it's a pain in the ass to get them working again. Up where I live it's usually carb issues though, maine weather and brass floats don't mix good
@@coolbluelights Im talking about those ultra rare emergency instances. Where he might need it. Im only saying that since its a possibility but a 1.0% chance. Like to use things if he had to land the plane and couldnt use the planes power. IDK
