Jase 87 His trombone wasn’t quite as bad as the “Go Compare” ads, I liked it. He was funny when he kicked a strawberry on the table and limped a bit. BT later bought EE, which left only 4 mobile networks in the UK. Watching the Cellnet advert, it's kinda weird to think that mobile phones were a thing as early as 1990. I remember them existing, I remember them being desirable. But the price of both the unit and then the tariff was just way out of the league of affordability for the average person or family. It was all about the Yuppies and the business person. Joe Bloggs and Jane Doe weren't marketed at, just look at the type of person they were aiming for in this particular advert. Compare the mobile phone scene of 1990 to that of today. It's certainly been one of the biggest communication booms in history. Not owning a mobile now is like not having running water, it's almost unthinkable. And look at where the costs are, you can pick up basic handsets for a tenner and get unlimited calls for £1.50p a week. If prices were like that in 1990, I know where my pocket money would have immediately gone. Crazy stuff, how affordable it has become. Kids of today will never know.
