I learned this today and I was born in 1982.

There used to be one in dagenham (green lane) up until about 2000-2001 then it changed to budgeons

There used to be a 7-11 on the corner of Portland Road and Boundary Road opposite Portslade station in Sussex up to mid 90s .Used to frequent quite a lot!

Kirkgate Arndale Centre was ahead of it’s time. These days it’s a crap hole just like the rest of the City. The ad must be from Yorkshire TV because they wouldn’t advertise outside Yorkshire for what was a relatively minor Shopping Centre. The decorations don’t look that great either although considering this was around 1980 I suppose they tried at least.

The ad was for bbc enterprises the then commercial arm of the BBC and air on commercial TV

Didn't need to. I knew it was Joe Dante and that Spielberg was only 'executive producer'.. In other words, he did naff all except let them use his name in return for millions of dollars.

Although true of a lot of perfumes etc Chanel and other perfumes of that ilk actually cost more rhen, than they do today. Even cheap stuff like the umbro aftershave that my hubby used to buy himself as a kid was around £2.99 a bottle in 1988 when he was 11. He still uses it today, aged 42 and its a quid a bottle now. Wish we could buy whiskey at mid 80s prices though. £4 quid for a bottle of jack daniels! We found an empty bottle clearing our garage out, and it had a £4 price sticker on it. You could have done a xmas booze budget on about £30 in those days. It costs us around £200 nowadays, and thats if were not planning any big parties/get togethers. My mum and dad didnt know it then, but they had it made, 80s wages were higher (in the 80s my dad would bring home between £250-£500 a week in a manual labour job depending what shifts he could get, compared to a similar job today paying around £200-£250 for the same hours if you are lucky!) Most stuff such as groceries were cheaper (not as good a choice then as there is now, but what there was in the 80s seemed to be better quaity) and you could get a house for virtually nothing. I think my parents paid around £5000 for their house in the 80s, im not sure but i think it was a council house when they got it, so got it for very cheap, and they sold it for £280,000 around 5 years ago. Jammy buggers. Only thing is, they used that money to put towards a retirement bungalow and had to ADD £12,000 out of their retirement money (cashed in a pension) to pay for the bungalow, otherwise they would have had to get a small mortgage/property loan, and they didnt want to move in to a new place owing anything, especially having been debt free for over 30 years. They wouldnt even have moved, as they loved their house, but they are both getting on and needed everything on one floor without stairs, walk in shower etc. Unfortunately, one thing that will get us all in the end if you live long enough, is old age. So, when im buying all my xmas booze this year, to help take our minds that trump is still president, his failed attempt at a clone is our prime minister and trying to tuck in to our post brexit xmas dinner consisting if Umps pstented chlorinated turkey substitute, irradiated bosnian sprouts and faux-cranberry sauce, i think instead of buying the booze, we should buy the 'umbro' aftershave to bring the new year in and drink that, its cheaper, can get you drunk and has a higher alcohol content, and is probably less likely to finish you off! Heres to wishing the 2020's are like the 1980s. Merry Xmas!
