Nobody was beating the skins that year, except Dallas. I remember that game the Sunday before Thanksgiving 1991. Redskins 11-0 vs Dallas 6-5. If the Cowboys lose they’re done. Jimmy Johnson pulls out every stop, going for it on 4th down 4 times in the game, converting 3 of those times. The game felt like a Super Bowl the way Johnson put all of his chips on the table, there was the iconic Alvin Harper ally oop TD at the end of the half. The Cowboys hung on to win 24-21. They also beat the 11 win falcons, the 10 win eagles and 11 win Chicago Bears on the road in a WC game without Troy Aikman. These were heady times for Emmitt Smith who had his first rushing title in 1991 and had the highest average per carry in his career that year
Think the 2nd game verses Philadelphia no Randall Cunningham this for the Dallas cowboys was their Chicago bulls moment finally beating the Detroit pistons in the nba playoffs that same year the eagles showed great sportsmanship by shaking their hands not walking out
That's when Jimmy had won everyone's trust after that Redskins game and the streak they went on. Then after the season and with good drafting and getting Charles Haley the team knew they were going to be scary. You saw that against the Redskins where Charles Haley was wrecking havoc and the defense was flying to the ball. Then beating the Giants where they hadn't won there since 1987 and then beating the Cardinals at home put the whole NFL on notice.
1-15 -> 7-9 -> 12-6 playoffs -> 16-3 SB Champs -> 15-4 SB Champs = Jimmy Johnson’s rise. Fast and furious. 8-24 after 2 seasons. 43-13 in the final 3 seasons. That includes 7-1 in the playoffs. Johnson turned it around BIG TIME.
You all knew deep down after the Cowboys beat the Redskins that they were going to be a scary team and they were. They beat the Steelers on Thanskgiving, then beat the the Saints, then Eagles who they hadn't beaten in non strike year since 1986 and then the Falcons. Other than the Steelers everyone of those teams the Cowboys beat made the playoffs. Then they finally won a tough wildcard game against the Bears which they would only win 1 playoff game in the next 14 years (won one in 1994). Even though the Lions crushed the Cowboys in the divisional round, you knew they were a few players away from competing for a Super Bowl. Jimmy would get Darren Woodson, Kevin Smith, Robert Jones, and Jimmy Smith (famous for the Jaguars) in the draft then got in free agency Thomas Everett and final piece of the puzzle was Charles Haley. Charles Haley changed it all for the Cowboys. You saw it in the first couple of drives in the first game against the Redskins on MNF. Was hurrying the QB and stopping plays in the backfield. Then a block punt for a safety and then a TD drive after that saw the Cowboys putting everyone on notice that they are coming to play that season.
@@ericradford2142 like the Chicago bulls finally beating the Detroit Pistons in that same year beating the rival Philadelphia Eagles on the road at veterans stadium to clinch a playoff berth while eliminating the Eagles from the playoffs at the same time the Eagles showed great sportsmanship in defeat by shaking their hands unlike the Pistons who walked off the floor
1991 Dallas Cowboys with 11 - 5 they clinched playoff spot they beat Chicago Bears 17 - 13 NFC wildcard playoffs Unfortunately they lose to Detroit Lions NFL divisional playoffs they look for 1992 it would be perfect year 🏈
1992 was the only year Aikman went injury free. He would start all of their games in 1997 but he was dinged up oftentimes as the Cowboys offensive line got fat and lazy and was nothing like the great wall they'd been during their run from 1991-95.
If the Cowboys beat Detroit in the NFC divisional playoff think playing their arch rival Washington Redskins for the NFC Championship would be bigger than their 1982 meeting
I've been trying to find tbe poly gram version of the 1992 Superbowl XXVII Champions video...you have the NFL films version of that seasons highlights, and it uses some of the same footage but it's not the same video...The one I'm looking for opens with the poly gram screen, then an ad NFL Country, and NFL Rocks. It has a picture of Emmitt Smith on the cover of the vhs..if you could upload that one I'd be forever grateful. It used to be on RU-vid, now I can't find it anywhere
Too bad Jerry couldn’t stay in the owners booth and leave Mr. Jimmy Johnson alone , there were a great chance of more Super Bowl ‘s , but you all seen Jerry destroy the Cowboys !
