On this installment of the Auto Experience Series we take a look at Mitsubishi's technologically advanced platform created to battle such legendary icons as the Supra, NSX, RX7, and 300ZX Twin Turbo. This Dodge variant wears a clean muscularly sculpted body and pulls no punches. Is its DOHC twin turbo V6, AWD, 4WS, limited slip diff, and other techno gadgetry enough to remain a viable performance car today? Let's find out. #dodgestealth #mitsubishi3000gt #carreview

If you remove the boost plug restriction, you can give it the 2nd gen Horse power numbers. 300hp /300tq->320hp/315tq. This was planned and built in from the beginning.

Thats not an accurate statement, that is a 3s wives tale.
@JoeJohnson-mk4qd
@JoeJohnson-mk4qd 2 года назад
Some people are afraid of overboosting it, but it was clocked up in the second gen with everything the same as the first , so it can obviously handle the extra turbo.

@@keithharrison3636 No, it's not a wives tale - you simply have to regap the spark plugs to compensate for the boost increase via a simple bleeder valve.

Yay... A review that doesnt bash the Stealth/3000gt for being "maintenance heavy"!!! Frankly im glad they arent as popular as the other 'Fast/Furious' cars... Keeps em findable and affordable for those that love em!!!

To date, only replaced the Harmonic Balancer and Clutch Slave Cylinder!!!! HOPEFULLY, next year, i can buy the same one only in red!!!! We’ll see what happens!!!!

Glad to see a decently made series of videos of someone just taking the time to restore, and fix one of these cars, then go our and enjoy it, as opposed to a long drawn out build series full of cheap aftermarket parts that will make it ultimately perform worse, and or end it a partout. I've had about 8 3000GT/Stealths over 10 years. I now enjoy just saving and just driving them, including demodifying one of my own that spent the last 15 years being built as a weekend track weapon by me and the previous owner, and just turning it into something fun for the Canyons, but livable enough to drive almost everyday, while coming off and appearing as a genuine engineering excercise done by Mitsubishi themselves in the 90s. Period correctness is key. I hope to see more of the car from you in the future.

I have a 1995 Dodge Stealth RT Twin Turbo I have owned since June 2010 and I LOVE IT! Its 1 of 14 Dark Blue Pearl and charcoal interior. Its so fun to drive and still gets some looks. Mines in a really good shape little to no rust underneath. It's lightly modified by the previous owner. Its a great driver and fun in the twisties.

Great review! A couple things I disagree with: The Vr4/RT Turbo was not an NSX competitor. The NSX started at $63,000 and was twice the price. It was also a hand built supercar designed to compete with Ferrari and Porsche. The 3/S was a high end sports car/grand tourer made to beat the Corvette and 300zx in 1991. As for value the Stealth is selling for a little less than the 3000gt even though it seems stealths are much rarer. It may have to do with the styling or the fact the stealth didn't get the active aero. As for handling, a nice set of coilovers and a lower center of gravity make a huge difference in cornering. Nothing you can do about the understeer unfortunately. But they really do feel nimble for being almost 2 tons. My biggest issue with interior ergonomics is the lack of headroom and all the switches being randomly scattered throughout the busy cabin. It definitely has the coolest climate control any 90's car lol!
@autoobsessivegarage
@autoobsessivegarage 4 года назад
Andrew McIntosh great points! You are correct that the Stealth was not a market competitor to the NSX (no one was price shopping between these two), but they were absolutely performance spec competitors. Similar to how the first year SHO was a performance competitor to the BMW 535i but no one was in the market for the BMW saw the SHO as being in the same cost class.

Butt the GTO/Stealth actually faster than the NSX and even beat the Ferrari model they had in the 90's. N Besides everyone knows GODZILLA is king of Japan not the NSX.

@@autoobsessivegarage Thank you, you basically answered all my remaining questions about the Stealth (notably exact weight and active aero or not). 1680kg isn't as high as I thought for all the stuff packed under the body! Technically it weights 250-280kg more than a RX8. That's impressive for the time!

I have a 91 stealth 150k original owner non op. The original owner passed a month after I drove it and I can't get it to start. I'm not sure if he put a kill switch In it or not and his wife has no idea as she was left with 26 cars to sell he was an engineer for Peterbilt and raced many cars as a hobby. He kept everything maintained and had a 3000GT VR-4 with a kill switch but I never saw where he hid it as it sold before I was able to pick my stealth up. this thing is clean has sun damage on back seat on top but other than that turns over no problem just won't fire plugs are good coil and fuses good. just hoping maybe someone might have a few suggestions as im anxious to drive it. it been sitting for 6 months and just had it trailered home a few weeks ago. not the turbo but still really cool I remember in high school when these came out. they were ahead of their time. please reply if you can thanks.

Sounds like a fantastic car. Kill switches usually just disconnect the battery to prevent startup…but this sounds like a custom job of the car does have one at all. I’d start with the basic no start diagnostic tests to narrow down a potential cause.
