Great video, about time a good A/C restore video without all the extra chit-chat about other issues. Just straightforward getting it done. Thank you, now on to me doing my Silverado.
Thanks for sharing, Steve. I always look forward to any content you put out. Hopefully you have fully recovered from your surgery. It looks like it anyway!
I'm getting ready to do the same thing to my 91 C1500 SWB. It's been growling for a couple of years so I'm changing the line sets, condenser , drier and compressor.
It looked like you were charging thru both the high and low side with the engine running. Only use the low side with the engine running. Good job getting the AC fixed.
Great video Steve! My 94 c1500 just had a new crate motor transplant and haven't had ac working in the truck for 15-20 years now and ready. Summer in Texas is difficult to survive in and your video has me excited to get her cold again.
@@ForceBuilt Thanks! Quick question; did you need any special tools for fittings or anything? I was thinking there was a fitting in the A/C system that required some kind of special tool but I may have dreamed that lol.
@@ducktapepiloti got the same truck but i seen that some compressors have 2 wiring connectors on it but the one that came with the truck had just the clutch connector is that all it is to it?
We got it on Amazon. It is not a bolt right up conversion like I thought is was for our 91 truck. We had to make 2 brackets and modify the filler panel between the grill and the bumper. Here is where I talk about the grille more. Start at the 6 min mark, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NCWmi6m7PNA.html
Question for you. My 1993 had propane and the original compressor. It went out 2 weeks ago and I replaced everything but the hard lines and the evaporator core in the cab and went to r134a. I'm just not getting cold air. 60º out the vents and its 82º today and 75% humidity here in alabama. my readings on the gauges is 44 low side and 212 high side which is great. I even took the blower out and cleaned the evaporator core. 60º isnt cutting it and all the money I have spent is not making me that happy what could I be missing?
@@MarshallSmith27 OK, Just asking trying to figure out what is going on. Did you let the pump run for a long time? That will remove moisture from the system. Moisture will affect cooling.
You swapped out that old tube and fin condenser for a nice parallel flow unit, looks really good on your truck. Is your AC still running nice and cold? I just did the same AC swap on my Gbody car.
@@ForceBuilt I have a 5.3 LS truck engine with a new DENSO compressor thats mounted low on the passenger side like it fit in the truck. The engine idles at 500 rpm and I can’t even hear the compressor running. My dual exhaust and flowmasters aren’t the quietest either. I replaced every ac component and like you my ac seemed to have good pressures with less than the amount of 134a than I thought I needed.
So I did the same and it was perfect and nice and cold. Then I drove it around the block only. Now the high side is high steadily going 350+. Can u update on this truck? Please
Everything works as it should. The biggest problem I see is the compressor is noisy at anything below 1k rpm. Really annoying. I would check your orifice. If it is blocked that will cause high pressure to be too high. Thanks for watching.
@@gerardolopez5875 It lasted roughly a year. I am doing a video right now concerning the repair. It was still cooling but VERY loud. Metal shavings are in the orifice tube.
sO did yOu add a little more Freon like yOu suggested or yOu just left it alone satisfied with two cans?? It was blowing cold air like with just tHE two cans..
Yes it was blowing cold with just 2 cans. I only did the 2 cans but I think it calls for a touch more. I bought an extra can but it was doing so good, I never added it. If you want to add a little more, it will not hurt anything. Just watch your gauges and don overcharge the system. There is no chance of overcharge with 2 cans. Thanks for watching!
OKay, I got mY two cans of Freon & liquid die today.. I have a new compressor & dryer with orifice tube.. gonna see if this works without getin’ ’ a condenser.. Thanks
I guess Ill have to do that to my 91 GMC standard cab short box as well she loses pressure every year , not that bad for out side temp here in Alberta Canada ,this is my truck it looks a lot like yours. thanks for taking time to show us your work ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--BDUuHcDqW4.html
@@ForceBuilt I installed helper air bags on the rear ,and just last week got rid of the drum brakes and installed little shop MFG disc brakes on the rear , rear calipers were off an 82 caddy Eldorado , much better braking the soft pedal is gone when breaking sir
@@oldbiker9739 How much was it to convert from drum brakes to disc brakes? How difficult was it to replace the old drum brakes? I have a 1996 Chevrolet Cheyenne C1500 sportside.
@@g1soundwave509 go too little shop manufacturing it was almost $ 700.00 CDN , it wasn't too hard to do just make sure the axle centers are clean and install all three brake lines ,
