I was grounded from tv for this game. Luckily my folks had a parent-teacher conference that night, so I got to see this. Shortly after this touchdown I heard the garage door open up. I turned everything off and scattered to my room. I'll never forget that night.
I was born in 2001, sadly I never got the watch emmitt or Barry Sanders, Dion, Dorsett, Or any other of the great legends. But from the film I've watched, Emmitt is by far, the best HB of all time.
This sort of thing is why I’m hesitant to compare players I saw to players I didn’t see. For example, I’m WAY too young (36) to have seen Jim Brown play, but although I get the idea he was much better than Emmitt, I guess I can’t confirm that.
That's exactly what I be trying to tell all of haters ,he destroyed at every level from little league to pro ,his offensive line did not make him........period.........he was a beast before any of them ever came around............period
He had great vision and balance, never fumbled, picked up blitzes, was terrific catching passes, always played hurt, practiced like he played and was a great teammate and iron man - the guy you want to go to war with - more to a complete back than highlights. GOAT
@@MENFUSSMIKE I'm not gonna fully disagree, but let's not disregard his unpredictable running style, the spread offense and multiple 3 wide sets they ran at regularity, and the multiple draw plays and delayed hand-offs he was involved in.
@@MENFUSSMIKE People say that but Barry wasn't even used by the Lions in short yardage because he wasn't a reliable grind it out back. He either lost five yards or made three people miss and got on Sportscaster.
I’ve heard a lot of things said about Emmitt from football fans to NFL players. He’s not fast, not big, not as good as Barry but for a guy labeled with a lot of not’s he sure did things great! Some idiots give all the credit to the offensive line and they were great but other running backs came into the game and they didn’t have that success. He was the best and that rushing title agrees.
More the half those O Linemen blocked for Dorsett and Walker too and nobody was talking about how great they were blocking for them. In fact they were called one of the worst lines in the NFL.
Crazy how we have to say that for the all time rushing touchdown leader and all time rushing yardage leader. I mean nobody ever wants to give the man credit for all the work he did...
The cameras didn't catch Emmitt on the sideline "tossing his cookies" due to an energy drink Daryll Johnston had him drink before the game! Emmitt says Daryll told him "Drink it fast, it'll sit on your stomach if you don't!" After that run, it didn't sit long at all!!!
i mean, emmitt just glides and skates thru washington's defense on this play, it's beautiful. truly, a whirling dervish. it's so graceful and smooth. dan dierdorf is beside himself.
I will always be a huge Barry Sanders fan, but Emmitt doesn't get the credit he deserves. You don't become the all time leading rusher by accident. And as this clip shows, it wasn't just because he had a great offensive line.
One of rare times I got really hyped!! I am usually quiet trying to watch the game but after seeing this run I got the feeling that Dallas is going to be good. I know they lost this game 33-31, but had Emmitt not got sick from running this long run, I believe Dallas wins, and Emmitt goes for 200 easy. They beat Washington the next time they played in RFK.
This was in 1991 - the year Washington won the SB. Dallas lost bad in the playoffs to Detroit that year but came back and won 3 of the next 4 championships. Man do I miss those days.
Yep. There are a couple Cowboys who have been absolutely disrespected by the hall of fame, mainly Chuck Howley and Harvey Martin (it’s embarrassing LC Greenwood is getting a push ahead of Martin whose statistics are far superior). Of course the Broncos get hosed too.
He had the stomach flu that game and he couldn't play the second half. He was puking his guts out and getting dehydrated. Washington came back to win. Smith had over a hundred yards in the first half.
I think Emmitt had gone over a hundred yards in the first half but he got sick for some reason after halftime which turned it into a passing game for the Cowboys which let the Redskins come back and win. If it hadn't been for that, the Cowboys would have swept the Redskins that year.
Zeke got no heart. He doesn't come in in shape. I think his best years are already behind him. Wish we didn't waste the money for long term deal. Pollard has way more pop. Zeke is just plodding ready to fall and stumble. No burst anymore. Hope I'm wrong but that's what I see.
"Sloppy tackling"? I guess. It's Emmitt Smith though. He put some serious moves on those guys and along with good blocking, nobody really had a chance to wrap him up. Was more great execution by Dallas than the D blowing it imo. All those guys flying around trying to get an angle on him was funny.
You obviously don't know how fast nor who Green was. If he caught Eric Dickerson & Dorsett down he darn sure could catch Emmitt. Emmitt was nowhere near as fast as Dickerson nor Dorsett
He often did catch Emmitt...check out the 1990 Thanksgiving day run. But unlike Dorsett who tried to outrun Green, Smith would stiff arm or brush Green off like a piece of shit. He may not have been as fast,, but he was TOUGH and a smart runner..Never intimidated. He was ESPN's TOP pick as the toughest running back to tackle.
Yeah, we had a great O-Line but Emmitt was a BEAST!!! One drive to go, Super Bowl and we need a score...no back I would rather have in my backfield than Duece-Duece!!!!
Nate Newton said it best. "Before Emmitt got here, we were all journeymen that needed to go. After Emmitt got here, we were All-Pro." Emmitt is the greatest ever and I don't think it's very close.
Look at that amazing offensive line do all the work.......that's sarcasm by the way. Emmitt is easily the most skilled RB to ever play football. Nate Newton said it best when he said "we were all journeymen, that nobody wanted, before Emmitt arrived and then all of a sudden we were all pro"
Yep Tuinei, Gogan and Newton were all Landry Era pickups and along with the last years of Tom Rafferty (one of the best centers to play football in the 70s and 80s) were called one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL until Emmitt Smith came to town.
He led the league in rushing that year and he just did that to that season's Super Bowl champs...he ascends to super stardom and then Dallas wins 3 of the next 4 Super Bowls...last golden age for Cowboy fans.
jerry jones and daniel snyder are the two worst owners in the nfl right now. all they both care about are their stadium deals. THE REDSKINS HAVE NOT WON THE. SUPER BOWL SINCE 1991. WHILE THE COWBOYS HAVE NOT WON THE SUPER BOWL SINCE 1995. KIND OF A LONG TIME FOR BOTH.
The irony is that the Washington Redskins, the Dallas Cowboys' opponent on this Monday Night, not only rallied to win this particular game, but they went on to win the Super Bowl in 1991. The Redskins lost just two games all that year. One of them was to the Cowboys in Washington--after starting the season 11-0. Emmitt Smith rushed for 132 yards in that contest.
Emmitt's last 100 yard game as a Cowboy came against Washington too, Thanksgiving of 2002. In 1989 the Cowboys lone win came against Washington In 1988 Tom Landry's final win came against Washington During the awful 3 years of the Dave Campo era, something like 5 of the Cowboys 15 wins came against the Skins The Skins have been good to us.
So many people like to reduce Emmitt Smith by saying he just had a good O line. NONE of that O line is in the HOF except Larry Allen. Emmitt did not play with a HOF line. Think about that.
What age are you because Tony Dorsett,Roger Stabauch,Drew Pearson and that Cowboys Doomsday Defense made me a fan.Yeah Emmit and Irvin and Akiman we're great but Those Cowboys team back then we're really great.
The difference between Dorsett and Smith. Dorsett was much faster and a more fluid natural runner. BUT, Smith was MUCH tougher and broke out of tackles far more often. While Dorsett would try to outrun Green, Smith would simply brush green off like a piece of shit and make green look like a fool. Check out the 1990 Thanksgiving day run. Green caught up to Smith like he did with Dorsett in 1993. Green took Dorsett down but Smith brushed Green away. Dorsett was faster but Smith was overall more effective.
Also sometimes I share this, the Bible says that GOD loves us so much that he sent his son JESUS CHRIST to this earth and HE lived a perfect sinless life. And JESUS went to a cross and gave HIS life for us.And rose again in 3 days and who ever will receive JESUS AS THEIR SAVIOR AND ASK HIM TO COME INTO THEIR HEART AND FORGIVE THEIR SINS,HE WILL TAKE YOU TO HEAVEN.
If it had been TD he would have been in the end zone 4 seconds sooner and after the first wave of. Deadskins you wouldn't have seen another one anywhere in the picture
