I saw that game, too. I also saw 0ak 34 [ie Bo Jackson] on the play he injured his hip. What a shame. If he'd only played baseball he could have played for 20 yrs.
Bo Jackson would have OWNED the record books. Incredible. And he was every bit as good at baseball! And I remember Tony's 99 yd. run on Monday night football when I was in high school. 70's and 80's were the best time to grow up watching sports, from boxing (before cable TV) to football to basketball to baseball. All the legends...and great beer commercials!!
"And he was every bit as good at baseball! " No, he most definitely was not. He was top tier HOF quality in football. In baseball, he was barely above mediocre. People fall in love with a couple of his highlights, but you look at how he actually performed in baseball, and it was nothing special.
Dorsett's 99-yarder is by far the best. As he still had a chance of being caught down to the 15-yard line; and he tip-toed the sideline starting at the opponent's 20-yardline. Outstanding.
Bo Jackson was awesome! Herschel Walker was amazing! I miss the NFL of the 1980's and 1990's! Electrifying, thrilling, awesome and amazing football players and games!
My favorite is Tony Dorsett running it back for 99 yards from the end zone. To this day, that is the longest TD run from scrimmage in the modern NFL (after AFL and NFL merger). Dorsett burst through that line so fast.. like a cannonball! Cowboys fans represent!! #DC4L.
I was watching it on Monday Night Football with 3 Cowboys fans, and the 3 of them were jumping up and down, and then Vikings won the game. Tony Dorsett was a GREAT, GREAT running back.
personally the longrun I love most is O.J. Simpson's 88yards one against Steelers at the Threerivers in the 2nd game of the 75 season which made me start my football career as a RB at highschool and college in Tokyo. ( I am a Tokyo born&bred Japanese of the age 60 and I watched the scene on TV at the age of 15) For I am very sorry for my terrible English.(I am posting my first English comment) And I also would like to say thanks to the channel's operater and all the NFL&Football fans viewing this channel in America, the birthplace of the game for bringing me back a happy and nostalgic memory of my youth.😄😄😄
Back when the game, was a game and enjoyable to watch. I haven't watched an NFL game in 4 years, even Super or Pro Bowls. Don't miss it. Very nice clips.
All of these guys runs were amazing and exciting. However, if you watch closely, Dorsett’s initial burst through the middle of the defensive line was amazingly quick. In my humble opinion, it’s what really set his run apart from the rest of the other fantastic runs.
I remember watching that game. At first that tackle didn't seem like a big deal til you saw the replay. I remember the following week when an NBC sideline reporter broke the news that it was a lot more serious than originally thought. The reporter was O.J. Simpson.
Herschel Walker and Jackson ran very similar in the open field, and both had tremendous first and second step acceleration. They were both very smooth running at full speed, too. Interesting how they even wore the same jersey number
@@milojanis4901 Yeah, maybe they each chose to wear number 34 because they were fans of 1) Joe Perry [also a World War II veteran], 2) Franco Harris [Rest in Peace], 3) Walter Payton, or 4) Earl Campbell because they all wore number 34!
@@thoglow0911ify You should watch the 30 for 30 episode of Brian Bosworth then you will know how he became the "Sheriff of Fansville" - it was ingenious of Brian Bosworth to create his character while playing for Oklahoma!
On Dec 6, 2018 Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry scored on a 99-yard touchdown carry during the second quarter, dishing out three defender-shedding stiff-arms while trudging his way to what was arguably the most incredible touchdown of the season.
Tony Dorsett STILL holds the record. 99 1/2 yards. I watched that game and the ball was actually placed JUST over the goal line, like the 1 foot line. Heckof run.
Dorsett has a 90 plus yard TD a 80 plus yard TD a 70 yard plus TD and a 60 plus yard TD . I believe he is the only RB with this record. The most underrated RB ever. Pure class
I looked this up several years ago - you're on it - but not only that, he had seasons where his long run hit nearly the set of 10's... 90,80,70,60,50,40,30(several times), 20 and 10. Never had a single season long of under 10 though, so he missed winning the full lotto :) in sorted order : 11 20 35 36 38 38 39 47 58 60 71 84 91 and starting in 86: 84 60 38 20 47 58 71 38 35 91 36 39 11
Bill Cenne - It's strange how I remember this set up. The punter for the Vikings had one hell of a punt to pin Dallas deep. The ball just bounced around the one inch line and then went out of bounds. The very next play, Tony did this.
Unique thing about Dorsett’s record is the fact that Dallas only had 10 men on the field. Ron Springs was supposed to get the ball, but ran off the field.
I was a viking fan in the stadium with my dad and brothers that game. The whole stadium was chanting Safety! Safety! When Tony got past the last defender around the 10 yard line you could hear a huge gasp as the air came out of our cheer! The Vikes did win the game though!
Why would anyone put this as a thumbs down? They must hate football. These are awesome and bring back awesome memories. Bo Jackson and Tony Dorsett. I forgot how good Chris Johnson was. Thank you kindly for doing tis!!
CJ2K is the greatest home run hitter in NFL history...gets two clips on here and I think he has two other 85+ yd runs not shown... amazing. Wish the Titans put more around him those years.
What if...Bo doesn't get hurt in the playoff win over the Bengals? The Raiders go to Buffalo and beat the Bills because they couldn't stop Bo. Then even with Parcells and Belichick, the Giants can't stop Bo and the Raiders win Super Bowl XXV. It's no coincidence that Bo's football career ends and the Bills win the AFC Championship 51-3.
I love how the Jets defense was featured prominently in this "longest runs from scrimmage in NFL history" video. lol Speaking of the Jets, where's the 98 yard run they had against the Bears back in the 1990s without scoring? They had the ball on their own 1 on 1st and 10, ran down to the Bears' 1 (98 yards), and then failed to score on 4 straight goal-to-go plays. It's the longest play in NFL history without scoring. Typical Jets. 👍
Michael Collins I have always believed that there had to be two killers also but after watching his highlight runs, iiowno. That ni!@# is pretty fast! I could see him pulling it off.
Probably this helped the outcome as the defense thought they could get a sack (safety) because they surely noticed they had 1 extra player.. they rushed to sack the QB. That and Dorsett's talent¡¡¡
At 1:03 was Herschel Walker. What many don't know or don't remember is he had world class 100 meter times and ran that event in the 1982 College NCAA's championships. He is also one of the most intelligent and nicest people you will ever meet.
Brian Savage heres the most impressive thing Herschel was 32yrs old when broke that 91 yd td.. Not to mention RB are washed up by 30yrs old and cant run no more.
Played like a man among boys. The only others in his class would be O.J.Simpson, Barry Sanders and of course the great Jim Brown. Only Jim had the power that Bo possessed. Bo would make any NFL team today, and make them better! Once in a lifetime athlete.
@@jdm19791 OJ ran for 2000 yds in 1 season. Barry ran for 2000 yds in 1 season. Jim Brown ran for 1800 yds in 1 season. Bo never broke 1000 yds in 1 season. Bo had a Nike campaign and alot bought the hype.. Bo wasn't a man among boys.. He wasn't even an average NFL Starting RB in yards production. A big strong fast guy who played pro baseball.. and had sub average NFL stats.
@@shyba2011 never. I got to watch it when it happened live. I was young but I remember that run, the MNF broadcaster especially when the guy said ut oh.
I'll never forget Bo Jackson hitting a fairly hard ground ball to 2nd base and he beat the throw. It's one thing for a right handed batter to beat out a moderate ground ball to short or third, but second base is very rare.
I was at the Raiders and the Steelers ..I just got to my seat and was getting all my equipment situated ..When the crowd erupted I just blindly held my camera up and managed to get almost all of pryors run ..good stuff
Yeah I'm very late to the game. MUCH RESPECT for this not having a front loaded bunch of crap noise or a way too loud beat rolling on audio instead of real time commentary. Title says and delivers.
I was at that 1983 Cowboy game. It was crazy to see 99.5 yard run. I still think Bo Jackson was the best. Had he not got hurt. History would have been made.
He was one of the most gifted athletes we'll ever see. If he hadn't been quite so fast, he wouldn't have gotten hurt, and who knows what he would have been capable of achieving?
Best game I ever saw was Barry Sanders, Lions in Tampa Bay. He had 3 TD runs each over 70 yards, in one game. Some great running backs would still only have 1 or 2 really long TD runs. Some would have 1 per season. Barry would have 1 pr game, and handfuls each season. That game in Tampa was epic. GOAT
Wanna know the best part about Tony Dorsett's 99-yard run? Look closely at the Cowboys - they only had ten men on the field. Ron Springs, the fullback, had run off the field prior to the snap.
It stood. Teams don't get penalized for only having 10 men on the field; this most notably happened when Washington's defense lined up with only 10 men on their first play after Sean Taylor's death.
A thing of beauty That I have personally never experienced. My two best days playing sports? I hit three home runs and a triple in 4 bats. (15 total bases) I scored 30 points, 10 rebounds 2 blocked shots and five assists in a basketball game. Runs of 90 + yards must be one of the most exhilarating feelings ever! Out running a whole football team! I am 55+ now and I am glad I had a chance to do those things when I was a young man! Those are the days that no one can ever take from you. Now, there are also exhilarating experiences that occur in a person's life that have nothing to do with sports. Still, moments like those are so amazing when they happen. DURASAXON 'Richard'
Fun fact about Hershel that year, he became the only player in NFL history with 90+ yard plays in 3 different ways, rushing, receiving and kick in the same season.
@@tomloft2000 Actually, the pads they wear now look more like Joan Crawford's pads. You can barely see them. Back in the day, they all word large shoulder pads.
