@@chemicalspore 4th gens are nice the 98-02s are the best 4th gens tho I don’t say that because of the ls tho it’s more so that the styling on both the firebird and the camaro got much better I own a 2000 ws6 and looking into a 91 camaro

Fix it Fast actually it did have an oil leak and a transmission leak you are right I replace the oil gasket on the pan and the speed sensor that goes into the transmission since that was leaking both isolated

ThirdGenDude92 I got a 91 RS Camaro with the same engine you have. I'm also planning on doing an LS1 swap sometime in the future. I guess if you change the motor you will need to change the transmission and rear end as well. I'm not sure how much that will all cost but I do also plan to do the swap sometime in the future. I feel the 5.0 is just to weak for that type of car

Fix it Fast I know what you mean I used to have a 2002 Camaro with a V6 3.8 L that would kick the hell out of this Five O I used to beat the old 4.6 L Mustang in that V6 Camaro

ThirdGenDude92 How much do you think it would cost to do a ls1 engine swap with a transmission and rear end swap? Also do you have a website you are referring to that shows what all is needed or that has any good information on doing a LS1 swap on a 3rd gen Camaro? I'm just asking because I have been planning on doing a LS1 swap also on my 91 RS camaro. I think these cars would be amazing with the LS1, it's like that's all they are missing to make them one of the coolest muscle cars!!

Midnight Mechanic yeah sometime down the road I want to make sure that the frame is nice and straight and get the subframe connectors on it cuz I heard that these frames twist. I'm looking to do an LS1 swap one of my friends says I should do an LS3 but I don't have that kind of money but I didn't buy the car for performance either. This is a car that I just wanted a long time I've had a 93 and a 2002 but this one still is attractive to me. Thank you for watching

If you're not looking for performance, just keep the TBI or swap it out for TPI for somewhat better fuel economy. I've been doing quite a bit of research of 6.2 Detroit Diesels, a minimum 35 mpg possible from a F body with a Diesel in it. As for subframe connectors, if you're not wanting to weld anything to the frame (because let's face it, why spend an extra $45 more for powdercoating you'll have to scrape off to weld to) you can get bolt on style Jeg's subframe connectors for $200, and you won't be out the money if you total the car either since they're removable.

DNR5586 I was going to sink about $10,000 into this car to get it the way I wanted I wanted to get an LS in there, body work with paint job and upgrade the steering box and control links. ThirdGenDude92 Did you put your LS engine in yet!? It will be great seeing your Camaro again after you complete the LS engine swap! You should do a video of it after you put your LS in! Also yes there is a market for your old 305, the guys that are looking to restore to original an old RS or just someone looking to do a simple engine replace on their existing 305 TBI that has a bad engine and doesn't want to spend a bunch on a different engine or a lot of time on modifying to put in a different engine. So definitely there is still a market for your old 305 TBI!

Supply and demand , these 3rd gens arnt so common anymore but I'd rather pay 6 k for a nice third gen then a 2012 Toyota whatever or any newer shit box

@@freakfreak3007 I'd rather pay 6k for a nice one as well. The problem is, especially right now, is the insane price gouging on cars whether they're new or used. I saw a 87 firebird formula with a 305 (175k miles) the other day for sale. Nothing wrong with a 305 firebird except it was a 9,500 asking price. Even a 350 with that many miles isn't worth that imo.

Your going to hate me , but I have a 1988 Irocz 71 k black with ttops all options original miles 350 tpi fresh paint job I bought from the original owner 22 years ago ive kept it as original as possible just frame connectors and stainless works exhaust. I'm thinking of asking no less then 15 -17 k I know it's a lot of money but if all id get was 7 grand for it I'd just drive it . I gotta have something to motivate me to sell it kinda hard to let a special car go.

@@freakfreak3007 I really do appreciate the honesty from an owner such as yourself. I was in the market for a possible "new" car a couple months ago but just decided to fix the problems my current one had as it was either paying 1,200 in parts to keep it going or paying potentially 4-5k more than what some of the cars I was looking at were worth. When I say cars I'm not even talking about camaros, mustangs, etc. But even old crown vics, and trucks for example have been sky high especially this past year. I guess the problem, atleast for myself, is finding something that not everyone has but also something attainable. Just from what I've been told from past generations such as my dad and grandfather's is that cars were definitely cheaper. My grandpa bought a 1965 impala ss while he was still in high-school (1971ish) for less than 500 bucks and he kept it for quite some time for a car less than half a grand. My uncle bought a 1966 impala with just the 283 for I believe a little over 2k but this was 20+ years down the road so around the mid to late 80s. Cars now are just so boring compared to then. It's not like I'd buy an old Ford fusion and it's equal to the coolness of say an 80s monte carlo.

@@davebarron5939 not getting into an argument, you can cherry pick weights if that's what you want to do. Comparing apples to apples, a V8 automatic 3rd gen is not 500lbs lighter than a 1st or 2nd.

@@ChrisBrown-pz2gu There is NO argument. Third gen average weight - 3,164 Lbs. 2nd Gen - 3,530 Lbs = 366 Lbs. basically an entire V8 engine in weight, mite as well be 500, will always be 500. Have a nice day. I hope the math helps you.

@@davebarron5939 go look up the weight of an 1985-90 Iroc, or 1991-92 Z28. It isn't anywhere close to 3164. Hope that helps you.

Bearded Reviews don't ever get rid of that car the reason why I got rid of mine is because it was going to take a lot of money to sink into it to get it where I wanted probably about 15 grand with swapping an LS motor into it paint fixing the interior and yada yada. Yea I spent 2400 on the car and I've already bought 3-4k worth of stuff for it already. Mine will be a little cheaper to do, I'm going to vinyl wrap it and only do a 350 swap with EFI conversion

Ha, RU-vid just recommended me this video again. Just a few days ago I got an ‘87 IROC. Paint isn’t in the best shape but underneath there’s not a drop of rust and it has the original 5.7L. A few minor issues to fix but nothing that can’t be done myself.

I traded the car for a motorcycle, than sold the motorcycle. I ended up buying a 2002 camaro ss with 13 thousand miles on it 3 years ago. Dumped all my money into that so I had no money for this lol.

Oh ok yeah I like the 4th gen SS as well , I daily drove a slightly wrecked 95 z with a 6 speed untell it was time to parted it out now the 6 speed is in my 91 Camaro I would of loved to swap a ls1 like in your SS but I had to try to keep a budget on my swap so it didn't go crazy . Your SS will go up good car to hang on to !

The RS is the standard model which stands for Rally Sport. The upper model is called the Z28. The Rally Sport came in two options, the lower model came with a 2.8 L V6 and the higher-end RS model came with a 5.0 V8. Z28 Camaros came with a 5.7 L V8.

ThirdGenDude92 you have to remove the cluster and run voltage to the fuel gauge it self with a test meter and adjust it up and down, if it stays pinged or doesn't move at all it's toast. I upgraded to the Dakota digital vhx instead of a remanufactured unit. Intellitronix sells a digital kit on eBay for a few hundred that is cheaper then oem. You don't know till you trouble shoot first, I learned the hard way on mine but I also needed a new fuel pump lol

As long as you do scheduled maintenance and don't beat on the engine, you could get over 200,000 miles on the 305 engine

Third gens are reliable , don't believe the Honda fan boys , they are old enough to still be basic in design and repairs yet new enough to get decent gas mileage for a V8 if running well.

sprsprtrudy the car needed some work I was going to do an LS swap on it but my daily driver died so I ended up picking up a 2002 Camaro SS that have 13 thousand original miles on it and I got it for 15 grand out the door so now that I got car payments I can't hook up the other Camaro

ThirdGenDude92 yes true ive had 85 iroc 305 tpi n 1992 z28 5.0 tpi both stock n 3 rs 305 tbi n in both tpi n tbi the 305 is a slow engine just fast 0-60 but this one i have has bolt ons n its kind of quick off the line

I'll die in my 3rd gen before getting rid of it, newer cars are dealership vehicles, not designed to be owned but leased, this is so the public has lost any clue on how to maintain a car themselves for cheap. 3rd gens are simply sports cars with C series pickup truck parts, especially the TBI models, which means the entire driveline from engine to rear end can be rebuilt/replaced for less than a grand.
