I remember when the third generation F bodies first came out, they really stood out. The look was so impressive compared to what was on the road at the time.
I agree. And then the fourth came out and I was like I am never getting one of those....LOL Then I did. But I still got to get a third gen. And I know where one is on blocks. Just need the cash to stop by...Thanks for watching
@@CamaroTime BROTHER YOU LOVE MY 92 ANNIVERSARY CAMERO Z28 THAT I ORDERED NEW BACK IN 92 AND STILL OWN TODAY WITH JUST 19 THOUSAND ORIGINAL MILES IN MEDIUM QUASAR METALLIC BLUE T TOPS LEATHER LOADED I LOVE THE CAR AND BACK IN 92 IT WAS CONSIDERED A FAST CAR IF YOU CAN BELIEVE THAT.
@@anthonylaudano9751 please tell me since you got a car with t-tops (90-92=tops with 305 only)that you got the 5 speed manual in it… if ya gotta automatic back then ..it better have been with the 350/5.7l…this is why the 1989 iroc z is the best year for irocs ..350 and t-tops..
Great video. Learned a lot. I just bought a 1985 Chevy Camaro Z/28 this past weekend. Blue with silver ground effects. All original, 305 TPI motor, interior in mint shape, Engine rebuilt, AC and heat still works. Only need paint and minor body work. I feel lucky to have it. Planning to restore it, keep it all original numbers matching.
Thank you. Not a full , in depth, every detail video. But , a ton of info for those that don't know a Camaro. Congrats on yours....Super fun cars. Thanks for watching
Love the third gen Camaros! I've owned five of them. Working on the fifth one now as a restoration project I call "Plain Jane." It is just an 1984 Camaro Sport, but it came with a 305 engine, 4bbl carb, and 700r4 from the factory. To top it all off (no pun intended), it also came with factory T-top! Great video for any enthusiast! Will be adding it to my channel favs.
I've had about ten of these car's and i have a 91 RS l03 car now that's like new i love these car's in my opinion they didn't make a better looking camaro than the third gen
After a 10 year run it is amazing how rare these 3rd. gen. camaros have become 28 years later...especially the ones which have not been wrecked at some point, been up north and rusty, or just not been taken care of and abused...the nice original ones (and I stress "original") are super tough to find.
I agree. I know where an IROC coupe (non t-top) on blocks. Been that way for a couple of years. When I get the cash I am stopping by. Thanks for watching
Wow, I remember when these cars were introduced. Then started working for a Chevrolet dealer in late 1988 just as the '89 models were coming out. Up close and personal with the third-gen Camaro 1989-'92. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
LOL...Way cool!!! Wish I could have worked for a dealer. I know the horror stories. but with me being a car nut I think I could have lived with most. Thanks so much for watchng
My uncle had a forest green 3rd gen Camaro on chrome iroc rims. That’s when I fell in love with them. I’ve had 10 Camaros in the past 15 yrs. Currently in a 18 SS. But thinking of trading for a 17 ZL1 (50th yr). Great vid!!
Thank you very much. I think the green was the most popular color. That and either white or black. Cool! I want a 20136 model. Just love the way they look. Can't get into the 6th gens myself. Thanks for watching
Yea if I had a 1LE I wouldn't be letting it go at all either. Still have my 91 Z28 and it's not going anywhere. I've always loved these cars, have had 5 3rd gens throughout my life.
I picked up a 92RS 25th anniversary version that had a new motor put in 10 years ago, but been sitting 8 years, so the motor has two years of light local driving on it, just been replacing the small stuff, water pump, battery, dashpad, etc. I love it!! so much fun to drive!
Those cars were love at first sight for me. I can just sit and look at the body lines of them. Other gen camaros are great and all but for me it will always be a 3rd gen that makes my heart beat faster. I have owned several 3rd gens some nice and some not nice. It pains me to see all these guys that buy them up to part out for a quick buck. I really need to get my 86 IROC moving along. Great video! I was in heaven the whole time.
Not to be a debbie downer but 87' was the first year the 350 TPI was offered in the 3rd gen Camaro, not 86'. :D Also the 3rd brake light was moved from the hatch down to the rear spoiler in 87'.
No problem at all. That is how we learn. But if you search you will find that indeed In June of 1986, a few tuned port, fuel-injected, 350ci-equipped IROC-Zs were released before the switchover to the 1987 model year production. Thank you so much for watching
LOVE THIS VIDEO THANK YOU!! I’ve been arguing w my husband to tell him I love the ‘85’ Camaro and he KEPT INSISTING I like the ‘89’! I’m like “NO! LOOK at this video and SEE 👀 THE DIFFERENCES in em!! lol PROVED HIM WRONG & he’s a MECHANIC!!... “Duhhh 🙄 babe!!”
Great presentation and nice choice of music! Back in high school I had a "baby camaro" - Chevy Z24 - because I could not afford a Z28. Damn those were nice. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
Hi there. SO glad you liked it and thank you for the compliments. My cousin had a Z24. And they were great cars. Very under rated and under appreciated for sure. Thank you so much for watching
Yheah anyone who's ever owned or even riden in one knows the dash shacks violently over about 70 mph but who gives a fuck that's what dash.matts are for !!!!
I bought an 84 Z28 not too long ago as my first car. It needs some work before it gets an inspection sticker, but wow it’s an amazing car! Can’t wait to use it more often!
I have never owned a 3rd gen. I know where one is , in the weeds. Just need the money. I have a video like this for each generation. Thanks so much for watching
No sir. I just could not get them all in in a short amount of time. That and just trying to get it to where people could tell the difference at a glance here. Thanks for watching and pointing that out....
Thank you for this presentation.correct me if i am wrong but i think 82 z28 came with optional crossfire 5.0 with made 165hp. And all models could be had with lg4 v8.iam huge fan of third gen camaros.had 6 of them past 32 years.just bought a 7th one.87 iroc z that requires minor restoring. needs work but all there.
You are correct, the 1982 was available with the cross fire but most did not take it because the other 5.0 had the 4 barrel carb and more HP. Thanks so much for watching and congrats on the new one. I would love to have an IROC
correction on the 87 model the 3rd brake moved from the other glass (86) into the rear deck spoiler on all models except for the base camaro without spoiler that kept the 86 style. also in 88 was the only year to have the new style spoiler standard. the regular spoiler was an option in 88 only camaros rs 89 it went back to standard spoiler 1991 is when the high mount stop light went inside the rear hatch till the end of the camaro due to new spoiler.
Good info. A few mistakes, but good presentation. There were NO 86 IROC'S with the 5.7 engine. In 87, the third brake light moved to the rear spoiler, it didn't go inside the hatch glass till 1991 model year. Also, the 230hp 305 with the N10 dual cat exhaust and 5 speed actually started in the late build 1989 model year.
Thank you very much. It is very debatable and depends on what sources you use. There are always those few that make it in. Just like there are always the ones that say there was no 64 1/2 Mustang even though it has been proven over and over there was. thanks for watching and the info www.mcsmk8.com/87-IROC/87-IROC.html
@@CamaroTime I have owned around 40 third gen Camaro's, and currently own a 44k mile 1990 IROC-Z, G92, 5 Speed with the 230hp TPI 305, and the N10 dual cat exhaust. I post all the time on thirdgen.org and have had 2 Car Of The Month winners on that site. I know these cars like the back of my hand, lol......and LOVE them! I will subscribe!
There were maybe a couple 5.7 cars built that were 86's for testing, but GM sold zero to the public with the 8th digit of the VIN being the number 8 (350 engine code) They cannot sneak a couple out without EPA tests, and all the other stuff that went along with federal regulations. The 5.7 started production in late 1986 as 1987 model year cars. Great work though, I do not mean to bust your chops in any way! Just trying to help your info!
An Under appreciated Camaro 3rd gens. Try and find one today in decent shape since most were raced rotted out and the interiors were cheaply made and those amazing TBars that leaked and caused the cars to weaken the body and helped rust it out..but a must have option that we loved. I owned one an 1987 black with red interior 5.0 auto wish I had gotten the 5spd purchased just after high school in the 80s. This was an iconic car Iroc Z28 and a blast to drive and fun racing mustangs with better handling. Too many speeding tickets had to sell insurance was getting higher back then too. A year ago I bought one 5.0litre 5spd T bars Iroc Z28 and the funny thing it was a black car with grey interior. This was a project car that was running and complete but had to sell it off due the the rust issues that required much work for me but I bought the car cheap and sold it for a small loss. IMO buy one that is as rust free as possible or buy one in a quality condition since to restore one can be costly due to buying one in better shape. If you can do the work and have a garage yourself it may be the way to go since project cars can be overwhelming and costly. Still love these cars and I may begin to search for another on maybe convertible but prefer a 5spd even though the 5.7 has more power stick is more fun to drive. This has been a great video BTW and documents 3rd gens quite well. If get another Iroc Z28 again it will be modified Ls motor with upgraged trans 5 or 6 spd and possi rear end and lowered suspension with frame connectors and I will very HAPPY.
SWEET!!! Congrats on all the fun. I know where a hard top IROC is right now. Black in color. On blocks with weeds all around it. If I can ever come up with a little bit of extra cash (good luck with that) I am going to make an offer. I love the styling of them. Thank you very much for watching and the great comment...…..Keep the dreams alive
@@CamaroTime Hope you get a deal but I'm here in Canada they salt the roads and it just kills old cars. I may have to purchase one in the in the dryer parts of the States if I can't get a good one up here but the prices are starting to rise for these 3rd gens if they are low milage originals can fetch a high dollar. These cars look amazing modified pro touring. Detroit Speed DSE has an amazing Iroc pro tour car in blue. The Iroc Z28 is a unique body style and its very light weight and can handle from stock..too bad they killed the Trans Am my first car was a 1969 firebird I drove daily in high school and regret selling it due to gas prices and storage at the time..I like both modle TAs and Camaros can't go wrong with either!!👍👍
I hear ya. Just another reason I like where I live. We do not get much snow at all so there rarely is salt on the roads. Our biggest deal is people parking them and letting the grass grow up around it or park it in fields. Causes oxidation really bad to the underneath of the cars. I will be keeping a lookout in the videos for yours! Love the 68 and 69 firebirds as well. Talk about something getting hard to find. At any price
@@CamaroTime Only if we knew the values of the older cars back then..we just drove em and had fun and they were cheap at the time to buy an old muscle car not but today. At least they were broken in when we got them LOL.👍
Love these cars, always have always will. Still have my black 91 Z28 and I'll never get rid of it. That's a pic of it in my user profile. Love that / these cars!!!!!
Does anyone know what the coded tag is on my 91 Camaro. Not a full sized cowl tag. Reads 05. 048051. Did all come with this depending on the plant it was made ? I notice some didn't come with any body tag at all, just the holes for it. Its a series of numbers on a small metal plate on LHS of radiator support. Someone told me, it represents the month and production number of either ALL F bodies in that month which includes Firebirds as well OR just Camaros???? Mine reads 05. 048051 Is this May? and production number 4,8051?? I cannot find one person who can verify what this riveted plaque is for?? If someone knows can you plz reply.. Thx!
It is a tag that tells the people pulling and installing the parts that they have the right radiator. One group of numbers would refer to auto or manual transmission and so on. As you would not want a radiator for a manual V6 installed into a car equipped with an auto and a V8. Thanks for watching
@@bengiarraputo9357 Yep. They quite doing that and started putting the decals with all that info either in the center glovebox, or under the carpet in the rear. Sometimes,,,,,the door jamb. It was like they were playing hide and seek with us. Thanks for watching
There is a place in Canada that will make you a full size cowl tag for 91 and 92 Camaros which will perfectly fit on the radiator support area. I need to find the codes for the info that is on the tag. Whatever was listed on the late 80's cowl tags. We all know that Fisher body used many codes and I'm wondering if they are the same on the RPO list.. ? In other words, would the RPO codes be the same on the cowl tag?? I know the paint number would be the same.. I need to see a pic of a full size cowl tag from an 87 F body so I can have a replica made with all my info. If anyone has a clear pic of their late 80's radiator support cowl tag , could you please post a pic of it. If someone could point out the location of each option on it that would be great. Thx
Love this Gen as well I had a 1986 L69 5.0 305 HO 4-bbl . The only thing I did not like about it was the color. Two tone brown, I had the window lovers on the back like I do now. It was a sweet car got a ticket in 1998 on the way to Georgia in Louisiana . Now I don't know if this is true or not but from what I have been told there were only 78 made of this particular color or car. We had to sell it because wife got pregnant with second child and our first use to ride in car seat in back when he was a few months old. That's probably what's wrong with him today. shook him up a little too much back there. I have not even been able to find that color on google.
Sweet. I have seen the two tone brown several times. A TV show even had one the "star" drove. Have no idea as to how many were made. I could probably find out though. LOL Nah, just a kid that can not drive..LOL
G.M. alsoTried to make a mid engine Corvette, nobody wanted it, now my nightmare has come true and I hate it! I will keep my Mint C5 Corvette for the rest of my life! I owned a nice 83 Z28 in 89, down fall, it had cross fire 🔥 injection, it would catch on fire all the time but I still loved that car!
I hear you. I am not a fan of the mid engine. They all just look alike, Guess it has to do with air flow and dynamics. Jusst not for me. But I can see what many would want it. Yep, cross fire was a bad design. But in the day it was the best they could come up with to try to have any performance at all . Thanks for watching
Sweet!!!! I fell in love with the red ones because of the show Simon & Simon. And they did not even make a targa top Camaro

I knew a guy who had a '85 Camaro with the Iron Duke... slowest turd ever. Took 20 secs to go 0-60 (yes we clocked it). This gen needed the V8 to really get going. The IROCS and Z28s were sweet.
Excellent video by the way Yes I do realize who your target audience is BUT The over riding feature of an IROC was the 5.7 TPI engine taken directly from the corvette And the major selling point from that day was the 245HP and 345 ft lbs torque. It is the defining point of being an IROC.
Third gen camaro are ageless design.for the past 34 years o had 6 camaros of different trim.currently working on a rust free 87 irocz with none original drivetrain. All of them have there own personality and feel.no two drives or handles the same. Shake raddle and fun.
Excellent. Congrats on the Camaro Life! You are correct. They all have their own personalities. Each one squeaks a little different, purrs a little different and, reacts different. That is one of the things that make them so much fun. Thanks for watching
I absolutely love3gen camaros I'm still kicking my self for letting mine go the dumbest move I've ever made she was a 1984 z28 root beer brown with gold rockers most people don't like that color scheme but it's super rear and hard to find I tryed to buy it back about a year after I Let it go but the dude totaled it in a head on in Mexico I wanted to cry when I heard my baby got wasted like that I'm going to find another one if it's the last thing I do 😢😢😢
Dang bud. hate to hear that. I know what it is like to get attached to one. Would hurt like crap if anything happened to mine. Good luck with the search. Thanks for watching
82 indeed had the cross fire. I guess the way I put the 3 references back to back was confusing. If you look at it again I stated in 83 was when they came out with the HO. Which is correct for the second half of the year. Thanks for watching
Camaro Time I didn’t know 83 had the H.O thank you! Do you remember some of them had the analog clock right before the armrest? Must have been an option and I also remember a dealership around my way had recaro edition iroc’s 2 of them pretty bad ass!
@@paulchristie4904 Yes. It came out in the latter part of 83 which then carried over into the 84. That dang clock has moved around as much as the third brake light on these cars....LOL Those would be cool
Hi there. This video was intended to show the basic , consumer variants of the third gen. There are more expensive models out there that this video did not cover. And frankly was not meant to. Thanks for watching
@@CamaroTime I really enjoyed the video and thank you for making it. I was just wondering why and now I know :) there isn't much information video wise out there for these cars so thank you. Much love from a 3rd gen owner ❤

@@CamaroTime That's cool you found a stripper car, interested to see what the RPO code on that would be. I picked up a z28 pace car recently and that's the only reason I mentioned it. They don't get a lot of love and I think most people don't know they even exist.
@@backlotparkers Pretty much. Everything is intact from what I can see from about 30 yards out.
