I was thinking the same thing! Mick Ronson was one of the nicest people I've met and my late brother, Lloyd Watson, who opened for Bowie and Roxy Music at the Rainbow, London in 1972, said his musical knowledge was phenominal. A brilliant guitarist. David Bowie was lovely when we met him at the after-show party. Spoke very quietly and won our parents over with his charm; asking Dad if it was OK if he could kiss Mum, my cousin and myself. Mum, bless her, said after he'd moved on "A strange looking young man but impeccable manners". I can still see Mick's grin and wink when he overheard her!
Yes... im.agree with you! In 1992 I was very Young in and i listened this song watching the concert some year later❤ Im a big Queen fan but i love David and Ian
What an incredible performance, a great song played by a great band (Ian Hunter, Mick Ronson, David Bowie, Roger Taylor, John Deacon, Brian May, Joe Elliott and Phil Collen), the best live version of All The Young Dudes.
I bet it was, to a degree, a dream come true for Joe & Phil, as these were some of their heroes growing up. This is an absolutely wonderful set. This makes me tear up when he says The Lord's Prayer.
It's unparalleled. The 2019 Hof closer was a nice tribute to this moment, and Ian. Obviously at that point you ever on the stage was like really old. Which made their performance all the more impressive but here these are guys around their peak in some cases. You could commit to me this is one of the 10 most important rock and roll songs and I wouldn't argue
best concert ever.....I was so lucky to be there.......David Bowie and George Michael were the best singers that night. And how John Deacon played Heroes......boss on the bass.......Brian May and Mick Ronson side by side......What a tribute..What a night......r.i.p. David, Freddie, Mick. .....
Very few people have had such justified self confidence than the legend that is David Bowie. Absolute assurity with not one ounce of undeserved bravado. I love him. I miss him. He was the soundtrack of my youth.
@@rossmatheson4303 as far as know, Mick Ronson received chemotherapy before going on stage at Wembley that day….and I believe it was the last time he performed live on stage before he sadly died. Such a brilliant brilliant musician, writer, arranger, and person. We still love you Mick….❤
Ronno's performance is just breathtaking. when he turned up to Wembley Stadium he was so ill, whilst in latter stages of cancer, he had to laydown & sleep for a few hours & then came out to play like this. It was his one & only live performance or Heroes with Bowie. Incredible performance. RIP Bowie & Ronno xx
Bowie's song. Bowie's tune. Bowie's lyrics. For him to take a step back on this performance is pure humility. He wrote one of the best rock and roll songs EVER!
It a way it was perfectly consistent. Bowie gave it to Mott the Hoople and played sax on the original studio track. He saw a lot of potential in the band but they hadn't had the right material at the time. With the addition of Mick Ronson from Bowie's band the combo of Hunter and Ronson produced a lot of hits, albeit not chart toppers.
@@epobirs bowie also produced lou reed's "transformers" w/ ronson and did some mixing for the stooges "raw power" while would also co-produce iggy pop's first 2 solo albums as the songs they wrote together actually made iggy a shitload of money. "china girl" was originally iggy's song until david did his own version six years later and that shit went top 10 worldwide. since iggy co-wrote it, he made more money in his lifetime that he did and would eventually get some commercial success of his own.
What can you say but this is bliss hearing Ian Hunter singing the lead of the song that Bowie let him record first to become a giant hit with David and Mick backing him. Awesome!!!
+Kidraver Ronno never got the praise he deserved , his guitar playing was amongst the best ever, him and bowie were the spiders who are now in mars and i am sure they will bump into trevor bolder and lou reed , what a party !!
alan ramsay Ronno never got so much public acclaim from the press but he got lots of kudos from all the axe artist's at that time and now, yea I wanna seat at the table with that gang, what conversations to be overhearing, All the young dudes is Bowie at his rock and roll best, folk underrate his contribution to rock and focus on the glam bit.
I was lucky enough to be at the concert with friends. People rightly say that George Michael gave an outstanding performance but this 11 or so minutes captures every emotion for me. My go to RU-vid video....even now in 2022, some 30 years on. Bowie, Mick Ronson and Freddie GBNF
5foto5 most impactful and memorable part of that concert for me. My eyes are welling up looking at this, the Queen guys playing their hearts out for their buddy.
I love it when British rock icons all get into one song. It was the same with Brian May, David Gilmore, Paul Rodgers, Bruce Dickenson, Keith Emerson, Bryan Adams, Ian Gillan, Toni Iommi, , Ritchie Blackmore, Roger Taylor when they did "Smoke on the Water" for "Rock Aid Armenia" in 1990. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1tsw3nKDlBE.html&start_radio=1&t=2
You wanna know what Bowie was about? Look how he gives the vocals to Ian on All the Young Dudes and then sings his heart out on Heroes. We won't see his like again, makes being older worthwhile. Like Lennon, Jimi, Dwayne, Bobby Zimmerman, Janice, Bob, George, Elvis, James, Otis, they were one offs. We were lucky to have them. Thanks a million.
I used to be a huge Bowie fan until I read about how he totally neglected his friendship with Mick Ronson for close to 20 years. He'd write Mick an occasional letter and Mick was very hurt by this. And, he never showed up at any of Mick's memorial concerts, but he had to make a big show by kneeling at Freddie Mercury's memorial concert and saying the Our Father. He would have been NOTHING without Ronno and he knew it. I lost all respect for Bowie after reading this. BIG PHONY!!
@@pat3834 You need to do a tad more research on this. Bowie actually did the voice-over on the Ronno documentary. Bowie was devastated how it all played out, but he realized he failed in how he handled it.
Stephen Allcroft he did go on and finish his last album, but he was very sick here, only hunter and bowieknew, they respected his wishes to keep it quiet, I miss mick
Great to see Mick Ronson playing his magic , a true guitar hero . Brian May is a great guy giving Ronno centre stage . Fantastic tribute , just shows what dross is around these days , that's progress for you !!
Jack Russell I think I love you! And youtube too as I never would have caught this trubute. Bowie and Mick Ronson, 2 of my foundest memories of being wild and free!
Susan Kane Bowie and his "Spiders" saved my SOUL many a time in my youth!! The Dave Man is AGELESS...so blessed to have had him AND his music in my life! Cheers
+Jack Russell Seriously Brian May is a great guitarist, but Mick Ronson just looks so much cooler walking out there. Still missed to this day. I only wish Jeff Beck performed at this too. He is my all time fave.
+Spectator : Mick was the only guitarist who could make a guitar wail in a particular way, such that it could positively cry like a baby - sometimes hearing his recordings in the early days one wondered "What WAS that? Not a child, surely...??" There's a bit at the end of "Starman" - "Waaaaah, waah-wuh-wuh-waah..." which, first time I heard it I was like.. "WTF...?!" His style and sound were utterly unique. Such a terrible, horrible, and way-too premature loss.
i can’t help but be disappointed that i didn’t find this earlier. how have i gone 18 years without knowing of this performance? this is a masterpiece :)
Best performance of this song, so powerful. Mick Ronson with help from May sounds amazing. Deacon with that awesome bass line, Bowie backed by Taylor on the drums = such depth and purity. You can see Bowie gave it his all. I'd have loved to be there. Don't make music like this anymore.
Just found out about this performance today, gotta say, seeing Mick Ronson and Brian May playing guitar together feels kinda surreal. RIP Mick and David, two legends in my heart forever
Mick Ronson only had one year left to live at the time of this show, having been diagnosed with cancer. Liver cancer. The same thing that got Bowie, in the end.
The 1st record ( album) he made was in 1971. I was 13. His music was such an incredible inspirations for me. It got me literly through hell. Much love, rip David Bowie 🎶🐾🎵❤🎼
Ian Hunter: "Oh. Him? That's David Bowie. Plays sax and sings backup for us" "The rythym guitarist? Oh. Brian May is his name" 😆 Surprised the stage didn't collapse from the talent on it.
What a show! Roger ruled getting Freddie's Tribute together. So grateful. These many years later, the love and energy is heartbreaking . . . those fans, spectacular. John Deacon's bass on "Heroes" profound!
Mick Ronsons playing was beautiful. Sounded so good, and was very fitting since it was his last public performance. Another giant who kept his illness as a private matter. We lost him too soon, but he will never be forgotten as long as there are music fans alive.
Mick was fighting his cancer during this but man he rocked this show! A year later he was gone. He was a phenomenal player and Randy Rhoads favorite guitarist 🎸.
I'm in total shock to hear that David Bowie has died, I loved his music but unfortunately never got to see him live just like Freddie Mercury. I love this concert to bits, I wish I there. This performance is one of my favourites of the night. Also the last time David Bowie and Mick Ronson played together. R.I.P David Bowie
What a performance. Mick Ronson and Ian Hunter are both often missed out when we talk about Rock and Roll greats. Just watch Mick playing on All the Young Dudes. Outstanding!
Mick Ronson was a great guitarist and marked his era forever with the Spiders of Mars.Such a pity DB let him go and sadly he died young, this was one of his last great performances..They just fitted so well!
Roger is so beautifully behind the beat on 'Dudes'. Nobody plays like him. As solid as a rock! Put a click track on that and see what happens. His feel is amazing!
Bowie was such a brilliant songwriter. The chord sequence in the chorus of "Dudes" is simply mind-blowing every time i hear it. Thanks, David so so many great songs. RIP
Four of my absolute all time music heroes, Bowie, Ronno, Ian Hunter and of course one of the best drummers of all time Roger Taylor. Rest in peace David and Ronno you are truly truly missed x
Ohmygawd!! This was such a killer performance!! And the videographer did an excellent job of editing the footage or directing the camera changes. How exprilliant! How lucky we are to have it here!
+bigbaddwolff Bowie, Freddie, Ronno, Lou Reed, Trevor Bolder, Lemmy - up there, now, giving a concert in heaven. Packed to the rafters, we can be sure. :-) I don't believe in heaven, but there are times, like now, when I would dearly love to. Goodbye Spaceboy - Thanks for everything.
quite simply the best version of Heroes ever. John Deacon is on fire, as is Mick Ronson. Sad that this was Ronno's last ever performance - was this also the last time John Deacon played with Queen?
Nope. The last appearance he made with Queen was during the making of no one but you back in '97. Sad. But I hope Deaky is very happy with his retirement wherever he is. I also admire Mick so much. He is so humble yet simply the best.
So much talent on one stage at one time. Bowie has a tree of artists he helped out by being an inspiration and an idol, writing or co-writing songs, and backing them financially. He was instrumental in the progression of rock music in the 70s and 80s. One of the greatest musical geniuses and performers in history.
