Annie Lennox and David Bowie perform Under Pressure at the Freddie Mercury Concert For Aids Awareness and behind the scenes rehearsals. www.mercuryphoenixtrust.com/ www.annielennox.com/ annielennoxsing.com/
Absolutely agree. How easy it would’ve been to cheese up all of Freddie’s scat singing improv, and yet she performed it in her own style and nailed it.
Annie hears the crowd at 1:11 she acknowledges their contribution with a nod and finger-point, transforming their bond, and at 1:18 David purely watches with amazement. Stunning performance by Annie, David, the audience, all backed by Queen?!!? We lived in great times and we knew it.
I met David Bowie while piloting a jet he chartered. While walking back to use the facilities I caught his eye and said: “Under Pressure with Annie Lennox, one of the best performances of all time”. He just grinned at me and politely nodded his head in acknowledgment. That was all.
I used to blast this version of the song in my college days back with friends in Austin, TX. I actually had the tribute concert on VHS. Now I’m alone in NY and as I watch this my emotions run the extreme from despair to joy. I’d love a genuine hug as I watch this on my phone in bed. A hug is not going to happen but I’m return I send hugs out to anyone who is reading this. This thing called life - we are all in it together!!
Agreed!!!!!!! She looked exquisite and sassy and feminine and everything else, I can't stop listening and watching especially when she says "That's okkkkaaayyyy" and stomps her way forward to the part where she sings about her brains across the floor...these are the days ❤️
@@hellosweetheart3350 Exactly, I am flooded with so many emotions by her performance and I can (and do!) watch this video over and over. I can not get enough of Annie. And of course Bowie is a great sidekick.
6:36 imagine putting a smile on David Bowie's face while you are singing a song that he composed along with Freddie Mercury. That must have been glorious for Annie as a performer.
She's amazing, I don't think I've ever seen anyone sing someone else's song better. I also believe one of Bowie's greatest gifts was his ability to allow people to take charge when it was called for. He didn't seem to have an ego in that way
When my friend saw that moment she didnt like that, she called Annie a bad word explaining the event isnt the right time to get closer to David , its stupid...
Can’t help but bursting into tears. Today I spenti it celebrating the life of David through his music. Of course I stumbled upon this masterpiece where he was celebrating another beautiful talent, with Annie being absolutely marvelous. I instantly felt so lucky, I’m living in a world where artists like Bowie and Mercury existed and keep living through music. Sometimes we give things for granted, but we need to acknowledge this is a great gift. Rest in peace.
Watching Bowie and Mays reaction at the end when Annie crushes it is awesome. I love David and Freddy. By far one of the greatest duets ever. Props to Annie for being such an absolute beast. Watching this brought tears to my eyes. Its 2022 where has the music gone...
Hace apenas diez años que descubri la emocion intensa y bella que nos regalaron estos genios . No me avergüenzo al decir que tengo setenta años y no puedo contener una lagrima al escuchar esta joya . Gracias David . Jamas morirás. Gracias Annie!
Two legends at the peak of their Art, with Anne doing justice to Freddy singing a song so hard to sing. Anne had retired from doing live shows until David offered her the role as a Duet, bringing the crowd to a frenzy. What a great day for the artist and fans to remember Freddy.
My jaw dropped and a frown filled my face when Annie appeared on stage to perform this hit with Bowie, was this really going to work? But this turned out to be a jaw dropping, stunning performance. And how fitting it is that Freddie did it for the world, then the world did it for him. Freddie's dead, long live Freddie!
This is transformative. The way Annie tears into the “love love love” bridge section. And then they come together. When Bowie changes the mic to his other hand and they embrace...29 years later I still get goosebumps.
Whether a football field or a stage there is difference between practice and the live performances. The great ones always always bring it when it matters, they nailed it.
I love how singer's have to hit those especially high notes otherwise we as listeners just don't feel satisfied...and Annie definitely does that later during the show and I'm sure everyone was just as fulfilled as I was, I can't stop watching this.
Just hearing deacon, Taylor and may play in the intro makes me appreciate the band even more. Freddie and Bowie are what you remember most. The band had some incredible backing melodies. Annie and Dave make it work better than I expected when this show was live.
The theatrics of this performance are completely off the chart. And that doesn't even begin to express the amount of respect and love these two have for each other, the band, the music and Freddie!
Qué hermosura. Se me pone la piel de gallina. Los mejores artistas del rock mundial siempre fueron y serán los britanicos. Al igual que el mejor rock del mundo. Gracias por tanto arte y por alegrarnos la vida. Saludos de un Argentino.
David Bowie and Annie Lennox are just simply amazing and awesome 🎉🎉 2 icons up on the stage performaning together and they compliment each other beautifully 🎉🎉
Everyone, PLEASE don't doubt that "heaven" can and dose exist on our Earth. PLEASE Understand that "hell" doesn't have to exist for our Earth. This loving and beautiful performance, to me, shows proof that everyone has there own individual power to explore and expand the gifts that we all have been given to "touch" the real grounds of our own performances and perspectives. I love Annie, David, and George, "and others",that have made this production possible. All great love and gratitude to all! Thanks for listening, H
Oh my god Annie Lennox such an underrated performer and incredible vocalist everyone knows Bowie is king and owns respect of everyone who dares to step on a stage with him but she gives an unbelievable performance here
She's not underrated, she's just not into the celebrity crap many singers are into these days. She has several Brit wards, an Oscar, Grammys, a Billboard award, a Golden Globe, and MTV awards....so nope, not underrated.
At a concert, I had box seats in Toronto - Serious Moonlight Tour. He was in the box, drinking his beer and set it down on my table. He walked by, grabbed MY beer and walked back with the server to say, "I stole his beer, get him another one please" - small things. I wish he would have known then, and started chemo treatments...miss the Duke.
Mesmerizing is what it is! They both looked and sounded amazing! I love the small flash of George in the background! RIP both bro's they are so missed!
I love how George Michael was into the music on rehearsals. One of the most shames in popular music history that they didn't do the tour together with Queen. That was a perfect time and opportunity for this.
