You think it's great to have subscribers, it has been really awesome for me to watch all of this and connect in a small way. I don't think many people realize how much more difficult and time consuming it is to video and edit in addition to doing the actual work you need to do. Your humility gave me confidence to try to work more on my own truck. Thanks again for actually reading the comments and taking time to help me out, personally! Looking forward to the Lightening build. That's my dream truck too.

TDSG34 anytime man, I just hope I did enough to show ya the fender well details, I wanted to get more in depth but the dang camera was acting silly and I was steady running out of daylight. If you any questions feel free to let me know and I’ll do my best to help. I tried to put it all out there as far as success and failure because before this everything I watched made it look simple but skipped the real struggle🤣. Dig into the truck, just take your time and be ready to have it sit just in case, luckily I have my other truck so I wouldn’t be stranded if I didnt finish. Also I highly recommend getting a Haynes or Chilton manual to guide you, for only $20 each they were a life saver! We have more to come on the ‘92 as well ( trans pan leak/filter, dash work, cosmetics) so I will definitely keep posting. Again, thank you for taking the time to watch and comment...this is what makes it worth while to me!

Thanks for doing these videos. I'm getting ready to this to my f150. I'm a motorcycle, atv mechanic and fabricator so this is a a little different than what I used to. With the way you go about this process and the syling of you videos, I can tell they are going to be a big help. So thanks again.

not a problem man. I'm far from a mechanic but really wanted to save some money and put some info out on here to hopefully help. I know I made my fair share of mistakes in doing this job but if you're like me nothing ever goes as planned in something like this and I wanted to put it all on camera to let everyone know they aren't alone. thank you very much for taking the time to leave me this kind comment brother, it makes doing this, filming and editing worth it in the end!

Watched the whole series. Awesome job. I just bought a 96 F150 with the 4.9 5 speed manual, from an auction needs some work thankfully not head work but it's good to see people into these OBS trucks. I'm sure this will help out somebody greatly. Thanks for all the hard work that went into making all these!

Appreciate that brother! These are by far my favorite trucks of the last 30 years. My first truck was a red 93 f150 xlt 4.9 single cab auto when I turned 16 way back in 1997 that I wish I never got rid of . I loved that truck I had to buy one similar a few years ago that’s in these videos. Ended up getting lucky and saving a 1993 Ford lightning ( my dream truck) that I’m restoring now and filming progress on. Hope your truck turns out great in the end, I love when people save these trucks from the scrap yard! Thank you very much for taking the time to watch the series and leaving a kind comment!

I just wanted to thank you for putting together all these videos of your process. This will be invaluable information for people looking for how-tos for some of the things you did. I subscribed back in January after looking for a video on how to remove a bumper for my 92 F150. Your head gasket process was also immediately helpful for me identifying and troubleshooting some issues I was having. Glad it's all finished, thanks again, and congrats on being done!

CocoButtah88 brother I really appreciate this comment! It was tough putting it together especially knowing I made mistakes along the way. I have a tough time finding Ford obs content that cut straight to the point and showed the details of what had to be done. I’m just glad there are guys out there like yourself that hopefully found it useful and entertaining. Thank you very much for subscribing and watching, I still have more to do on the old girl that I’ll post also. Truly appreciate ya taking the the time to watch me fumble though it all.

Wesley Johnson the Klein lineman pliers with the maroon handles at the pick and pull hurt, I’d had those a while then I’m missing a 6mm socket....and I don’t recall having to use it anywhere on this project so I have no idea where it came up missing! The lightning has 189k on the ticker, she’s been rode hard and put up wet so I’m thinking complete rebuild is in order. Still planning it out right now, my budget isn’t where I’d like due to the virus crap so I can safely say I’ll only overshoot it by 2k to 3k 🤣. My heart tells me 393 stroker, but my friends are telling me go 408....and I’d love to super charge it....lots to ponder on this one along with lots of learning.
@WesleyJohnsonMI
@WesleyJohnsonMI 4 года назад
@@3rdcoastobs467 I get the blue Handle Klein lineman pliers for free at work. One of the perks of being a welder! Well 6mm is close to 7/32", so dash/interior bolts fall under that category. At least it wasn't the 10mm! LOL! Gotta figure out what you want to do with it. Making it a streetable driver, or strictly drag. It's pretty hard to get the best of both worlds. Plus tuning for the computer. Is the Lightning Mass air flow or Speed density? I know Ford flip-flopped there in the '90s on those trucks.
@3rdcoastobs467
@3rdcoastobs467 4 года назад
@@WesleyJohnsonMI i have a few of those tool perks myself 🤣, think I'll grab a pair this week also. Just need to order the handles again (the "klein coat" replacement for 8"&9" handles part number 89). They are a great upgrade to the tool. So the bad thing about getting a early production 1st year lightning (mines build #857/2585 of the Red) is that the block wasnt setup to be roller cam swapped (started late 93 and on) so I have to get that machine work done. Also the truck is setup with speed density and will have to be converted to mass air, which won't be to bad. Itll be a weekend truck for sure so no full blown roll cage or drag only setups. Basically from what I'm reading I'd like to be in the neighborhood of 450-500 hp which is pretty obtainable with the 351 base. The blower is a "want" not a "need" but I really think it would be cool! There's a very highly recommend lightning mechanic off the "national lightning owners forum" that by the grace of God is 30 minutes away from me. He's got the tuning, rebuild and conversions down so he still be my go to on this build. I'd love to do it myself but there's Just no way I could do that work at my house without a shop.

I had a 88 F-250 with the 300 six and granny 4-spd. We burn wood for supplemental heat in the winter. I’ve had green oak & hickory staked as high as the top of the cab in it which would easily weigh 3,000lbs and pulling a 16ft trailer loaded behind it. The 300 six just didn’t give a crap. I replaced it with a 2500 Chevy with a 5.7 in it. It ain’t nearly the work truck that the Ford was. I’d love to have that old Ford back.

Crazy how these straight 6 motors hold up and get the job done! My first truck was a 93 auto xlt and I wish I'd never got rid of it in 1999. That's why I bought this old girl here, I'd like to pretty her up a bit but she's just a daily driver with a reliable motor so I cant bring myself to do it lol, I'll just fix ip the lightning for looks and keep this one the same. Amazing how much we miss our old trucks, I'd take 10 more of these before I spend 60k on a new one nowadays.

Well, I watched all your videos on this project. Great job, thanks for all your work filming and editing. I'm trying to get my '95 F-150 4.9L 5-speed running right. Luckily, only appear to have to replace a leaking Fuel Pressure Regulator to get it in order. Seems like I will have to remove the upper intake manifold plenum to change it (which is how I came across your channel). If that is in fact the case, your very first video in the series is a great help. I will definitely keep watching your channel going forward as I really enjoy your presentation style and how you explain things (of course we're both Texans which explains that). Best of luck on your coming project(s) on the Lightning., I'm looking forward to watching.

Ralph Nunn thank you brother, I’m glad you found these and hopefully helped! I really appreciate you taking the time to watch. It’s a little bit of a chore to get to the pressure regulator but I’ll take the 4.9 over the Lightning’s 351 V8...that thing was terrible when I changed it. On the straight 6 Once that upper is off everything is right there so I bet you knock it out in no time. I highly recommend getting a Haynes or Chilton manual too, they were a life saver and only about $20. What part of Texas ya from brother? I’m wedged between Houston and Galveston myself.

@@3rdcoastobs467 I'm north of you in Tyler/Longview area. BTW, got the pressure regulator swapped today, did it without removing the upper. New regulator solved all the problems I was experiencing. Make sure engine is cold and it can be done with a 5/32" hex socket with 1/4" drive. It was surprisingly easy, took less than an hour. Next on my list is A/C repairs, I'll get the Haynes Manual for that. I credit you for inspiring me to even try to tackle these jobs. Keep up the great work, my friend. God Bless.

Lol, I just today after I drove the truck to work took a look at mine to see what it would take thinking about your comment. It was right up front and looked like it might be "easy" to get to without removing the upper. Looked to be right up front with few obstacles but doable. Glad you got it done brother, that's awesome! The ac was kind of broke on mine when I got it, ended up just putting a charge of freon and fixing a vacuum hose that is notorious for breaking by the actuator for the plenum and it was good to go! Blows cold still and doesnt seem to leak 🤞. Truly appreciate the kind words my friend, thank you.

If the 92 gets painted I’d have to go Maaco right now 🤣. The ‘92 will get a face life at some point but I’m probably pushing that towards 2021 since this whole overblown virus stuff slowed my extra funds down this year. Well since I had blown it I had to get headers for the truck and a whole exhaust and I deleted a lot of hoses for that smog etc . It still works fine sounds great just barely getting it done. Took me about 3 days to take it apart and then we took the head to the shop got it back and took about another 4/5 days to put everything back but man it was a pain but it’s about finished . I just need to do little things to it now

Squeak is from one of ur pullies loose or cause of the more than likely it's the antifreeze that got on ur serpentine belt when u took off the lower radiator hose. Also to stop the whinny noise on the power steering pump u have to cycle it. Send u the link to video on how to do that when I find it. Was very helpful for me

I think you hit the nail on the head with the antifreeze spill and possibly a little aft getting on the belt. Luckily the noise went away pretty quick (like a day or 2 later) after driving it some more. I’d never heard of cycling the p/s pump, I’ll have to look into that for sure, if you find the link I’d like to see it. I’ll need all the help I can get soon, I bet I’ll be changing the pump out on my 93 lightning I just started...or I may try to go Saginaw, not sure yet. Do you think its safe to do a complete egr and cat delete? I already bypassed the smog pump
@3rdcoastobs467
@3rdcoastobs467 4 года назад
Rob B honestly man I’m not the guy to ask on this for fear of giving bad info. I’ve done a lot of reading previously about that delete and it’s ALWAYS conflicting information.some say it’s as easy as a block off plate and pulling the egr tube, some say it needs a new sensor and possibly a tune, some disconnect the valve but leave all vacuum lines intact but still block off plate...then there’s the problem of sending codes to have a check engine light on at all times or worse it throws a code but you’d need a code reader to see it as no dash light comes on (obs 1 code readers are cheap to buy though).I searched “egr delete 4.9” and end up at some really good Ford F150 forums where there are sections devoted to our trucks. I’m deathly afraid of knocking/ping problems if I pulled mine so I just avoided it for the simple fact that risk vs reward wasn’t worth it. If you’re looking to clean up the engine bay it looks like the problem will be you have to leave everything in place still even if deleted to fool the computer but even then there’s a chance for fault....the “proper” way is to plug vacuum lines, remove the egr valve and tube, plug the tube line, then tune the ecu to run right without it and that gets expensive. I know I probably didn’t answer your question but hopefully you find this and a few forums and they steer you in the right direction brother.
