Let's not forget that Madonna was the first to talk about these issues publicly when it was "uncool". She's a pioneer and truly cared about human rights. Then everyone else since the second half of the 90's, started to copy her and pander the gay community in order to sell more and be relevant. She's the Queen.
@L Narcissus To be honest I don't think she did it openly. She never been an advocate. Madonna and MJ were the one speaking out in the 80's and 90's. And they reached the masses. Other artists were fighting too., But were not putting their career at risk.
She was definitely way ahead of the curve and was brave to risk her career defending the community, but she was most definitely not the first to talk about these issues. As far as musicians, Dolly Parton and Cher are two examples. There were also several actors/actresses, such as Betty White, that were supportive of the LGBT community before the 90s.
@@villamedj3533 well you have to watch his videos again then. They don't care about us is about the Black community being persecuted in US for instance. He had Vitiligo, don't fall in this stupid tabloid conspiration, he didn't turn himself white. My Sister had Vitiligo, you turn white in a few months, it's nothing supernatural. MJ spoke out about the back community, the way we treat nature and animals. Madonna was an advocate more for human rights for both men and Women.
No, she said stufff against Reagan in interviews in the 80's and had his face on giant screens during the WTG tour as one of the patriarcal figure she was fighting during Papa Don't Preach.
She criticized Reagan in the 80s especially during her Who's That Girl tour in 1987 but she was much more overall political and controversial in the 90s
