This woman saved my life. I was suicidal when I came out, because my family had such a hard time with it. But Madonna came on tv -I already loved her music - and said in an interview, "Gay people are my biggest fans - I wouldn't have a career without them! My brother is gay." I knew in that moment if Madonna could love me, someone out there would love me for who I am. So, I lived. It sounds dramatic, and it's is, but it's 100 percent the truth.

"be what women feel comfortable with you being, around other men" this right here is MASSIVE. we forget as a society that its not only men judging us or labeling us but most importantly its our own kind, women, at times being even more judgmental than the men towards a sexually liberated and daring woman. I personally know many girls like this and they are easily threatened by any remotely attractive woman in their vicinity and it boils their blood to see a girl like that who is confident and unapologetic.

@theEXOaudio
@theEXOaudio 4 года назад
@@jasonle520 yes that could be some of the instances. but her point was that if someone didn't like her, they'd say it to her face even if it was few since like you said, "people are afraid to do that" directly in her face. but remember, there are actual critics out there where some of their job is to "critic" what she does. I don't know for you, but if there were people directly saying that in my face, I'd be more bothered rather than a lot of people bashing me on social media because I could just shut down my notifications. and some of the hate today were just bandwagon. imagine, someone to say something in her face means that they really "meant" what they said probably unlike social media where people just jump on the hate train. think about this too: madonna is still active in her career back then and now. so she's also experiencing those "behind the screen" social media hate. I bet if you search i hate madonna there's also hate going on social media on her. but the fact that she told that story where "people used to say it in my face" means that is more bothering and it affected her more than current social media thing. and it was the 80s. I am sure most people were blunt back then. please let's not dive into i-dont-think-you-understand-what-she-meant and just focus on the message of what she's saying. it's that hate will always be there. people should be more considerate of the words they say and actions that they do.

Watching this 7 years later.. what a powerful and profound speech that brought me to tears.. truth is, I used to be THAT woman, the one who judged you, who would criticize you for what you looked like, acted, and behaved, I put myself on a pedestal and thought of myself as a woman of "values" who would never put myself out there as you did. How wrong was I... the beauty of aging brings wisdom though... I now know that subconsciously I was envious, not of your fame or fortune, but envious of your ability to be comfortable in your own skin, so comfortable with who you are, that other's opinions did not matter. My takeaways from this speech are to ACCEPT and embrace who you are, fully, your past and your present, your warts and all that goes with it, and to be GRATEFUL, not only for the people who support and agree with you but more so those that do not, as how you react to those who don't agree with you is your CHOICE, Madonna CHOSE to take motivation and inspiration from those who did not agree with her.

She dominated the entire decade through music, videos, live performances, magazines, movies, theater and even the most talked about marriage and divorce to Sean Penn. I don’t see men and females separated, I see personality and the human that is standing right in front of me, but society is so focused on gender roles and the mainstream flow that either you have to get real thick skin to survive being yourself emotionally and mentally or you totally loose out. Masculinity is not about holding your tears back. It is about wiping away the tears of others. That's how you be a good human being, much more important than being a man. Written by a swiftie 😊

Yesss! Madonna is amazing. She's always been a reminder that authenticity will always win!! I love her for being herself, and for always inspiring us to be better and to be comfortable with who we are ❤😍

Little known fact: Back in her early day, Rolling Stone point blank stated SHE WOULD NOT LAST. SHE WAS A FLASH IN THE PAN. They also knocked every album Led Zeppelin ever made. So they definitely made some errors of judgment over the years. Especially about my girl, Madam M, who is still standing tall, even after 35 years; LIVING LEGEND. 👍

exactly what I meant to say, as it's NOT a full speech at all... but I guess, beggars can't be choosers...so even the bleeped out, edited version is a gift, and an inspirational one...

Lots of people, lots of opinions. Why is it so difficult to just recognise even if ‘she’s not your t thing’ what she’s accomplished & created during the last 40 yes 40 yrs!!! So glad to have been arou nd what was now looking back - wonderful years 🎉😊

this is the MOST POWERFUL, GENUINE and 'right to the point' speech on women rights and working women, I have ever heard. Madonna was articulate , truthful and said it , the-way-it-is . THANK YOU Madonna. I have so much respect for you. Stick around for ever!!!!! We love you!

In 1985 Billboard said, "Madonna will be out of business in 6 months". In 2016 Madonna is Billboard's Woman of the Year.

Because Madonna has always been advocating for women rights even when it was considered “cool” “badass” or “woke” like today’s society.

i don't know why this speech has been edited and these sentences has been cut out “Michael is gone. Tupac is gone. Prince is gone. Whitney is gone. Amy Winehouse is gone. David Bowie is gone. But I’m still standing. I’m one of the lucky ones and every day I count my blessings."

I had never really cared for her music or her but I'm starting to understand the importance of who she is and what she's done for women and gay rights. I'm so proud to be a feminist.

Richard Myles My faves are Where Life Begins and Secret Garden, mostly for the MUSICCCC, though I sometimes read Secret Garden's lyrics when I feel down. Waiting in companion with Did you do it? is God, the latter actually one of the few hip hop songs I really like. And Erotica the song is stand-alone in its cold cruel queerness. Hehe I'm listening to those right now, thanks RU-vid.
