Done new lifters! running way quieter , did the 15/40 oil change, I realize this car is now 29 years old and things are wearing out, so I do what I can .
Greatly appreciated these videos. Really nice to see a job done almost in real time, with no details skipped. I feel comfortable doing this job now anytime soon
love your videos, shame this has so very few views anyway, they get the oil from the rocker arm, it has an oil channel inside ;) it opens right above the lifter when its in the lower position
Oil to the lifters come in (with pressure) from the head, to the girdle/bracket (cut-outs close to mounting-screws), up thru the pivot-axle, then out thru the rocker. Bleed-off thru the cutouts in the top-disc. (hope it makes sense).
Hey! I appreciate the video! It's very helpful. Could you tell me where you found the diagrams at 8:00 in the video? I've got a 2.6 190e with the same engine and I've been looking for good resources for research on this engine.
I just searched Google images for M103 engine and found stuff, join BenzWorld for your car model, That site has helped me do everything on my old Benz's, ask and they will give diagrams.
What brand lifters did you buy? I bought MB original ones for my 300-24 at £35 each. Painful but I didn't want to pay again if cheap ones failed. I've seen INA and Kolbenschmidt - any comment on those? Good vid, thank you.
Totally forgot where I bought them lol, probably online AutoHaus AZ or FCP Euro, still working fine, no noise, cars been running great for a change, knock on wood.
Thank you very much for your detailed videos. I have a W124 200e (M102 engine) with the same problem. Some days ago, I was able to replace the lifters following your instructions. I was very satisfied when I started the engine; when the work was finished, all the ticking noises were gone. Unfortunately, after half a minute, a very quiet ticking came out again. Nothing compared with previous ones but I would like to know the reason and if it is possible to fix it. Now each start at cold has the same result while at warm the ticking starts immediately. Any suggestions? Thank you.
@@mygermancars7264 Did it burn oil before that and if so how much per 1000 miles? Did it fix it? How much is it burning now? Mine burns around a quart per 1k miles, engine has no leaks at all. And also, did it idle smother with new lifters? Mine runs perfectly, except that the engine shakes ever-so-slightly at idle rpm. I am dealing with my m103 for years now and I can assure that everything else is top notch with the engine, but yet it shakes a little bit at idle. Cheers!
@@mygermancars7264 engine and trans mounts were replaced recently. No, I mean it misfires once in a while, I know for sure that injectors’ spray pattern at idle is perfect, and that the same amount of fuel goes to all 6 cylinders, there’s no problem with ignition either. All 6 cylinders have great compression within +-3% difference. And of course no vacuum leaks. I have replaced literally everything on this engine in 5 years I own this car, but it is misfiring at idle same exact way when Got it. That’s my last resort, I suspect that one or more lifter got stuck and do not compress like some of yours, which causes valves to open at idle more than they should. The car now has 144k miles, it had 114k when I got it.
Isn’t fun lol, stuck lifter you should hear it big time, maybe one is not holding its oil? On ours one day I heard tapping, it would come and go, on cold start it was very loud, that means it’s not holding it oil, some oil should stay overnight, so just replaced all and running diesel oil, it’s thicker and it stays in lifters overnight. Run your problem in BenzWorld, those guys have helped me for years.
Hi! Not to sure how to find the top dead center on the other cylinders. Can anyone please help me out with that? I have the same sound on my 1989 190E 2.6 liters
