Yeah, 14 straight games. But it pales in comparison to the New York Islanders winning the most consecutive playoff series with 19. The 1980-1984 New York Islanders, spanning four consecutive Stanley Cup titles and five playoff seasons
I have no fucking idea how the Rangers lost this game or series. Ahead 2-0 and 3-1 on the road after winning game 3 in OT. They let the Penguins score at the END of the 1st period (always a crusher)and then Richter lets in the long one. Since we won in 94 I have been able to forget this, but every once in a while I think to when we used to lose games we shouldn't have because we never capitalized on momentum. Like losing in Round 2 to the Caps in 90 after beating the Isles in Round 1.
Even though it's pure coincidence, you could always count on the Rangers to give up a goal immediately after getting one, which happened in this game after 2-0, or giving up a goal late in the period, which hapened here at 3-1. Add in the awful goal Richter let it & it's obvious the Rangers couldn't overcome their biggest enemy: themselves. The Rangers had the best team in the league that year & Pittsbugh was an 88 point team that got hot in the playoffs. The Rangers should've won this series.
What was Richter doing so far out of the net in the first place on that fluke goal? And yes, the Rangers beat themselves in that series. Series lead, 2 goal lead 3x in the game, couldn't recover.
@dzanier yeah, the Pens were an 88 point team with Lemieux, Jagr, Ron Francis, Kevin Stevens, Larry Murphy, and Tom Barrasso. And they also managed to sweep the Bruins and the Blackhawks. And they also ended the Rangers series in six games at New York without Mario Lemieux. Yeah, the Rangers definitely should have won the series.
"Rangers had best record in regular season in 1992" The Sabres had the best record last year and got bounced in the 2nd round. Regular season records aren't indicative of who'll go all the way.
I don't know what you guys are smoking, "Rangers the better team that year", it's called destiny baby, the PENS were destined those 2 years and it should have been 3, you couldn't even beat the PENS without Mario!
So you're excuse is that ONE goal made all the difference? LOL....winning more than 2 games might have helped the Rags a little bit. You seem to forget that Graves intentionally broke Mario's wrist with a hatchet chop too.
a definite choke job by the rangers that year, but, I'm sorry. You can't say the Rangers were better. They lost in a seven game series to the Pens and the Pens won the Cup; therefore, you have to say the Pens were indeed better that year.
Think about the idiocy in that statement. "You"? Actually "I" haven't won anything. I'm not part of the Rangers, I'm a fan. Second, the Rangers weren't in first place during the other stoppages. Third, I hate the Pens, Isles, Flyers and Devils. Why? Same division. idiot.
