This was not a matter of masters showing or teaching young ones how something is supposed to be done or outshine anyone... It was about Boyz ii Men sharing in and showing love to those who came before them and set the standard and set the mark for how they are going through in the world of entertainment.. Boys II Men were the hottest group at that time but they recognized and showed love to the Tempts for what they did before them.. plus they were label mates at Motown at that same time also...
Im reading comments saying Boyz II Men looked lost and they couldn't compare, number one, im gonna need u to look at the expressions on their faces, they were purely star struck and the witnessed their idols in action. If I were them, I'd be doing the same thing. Number two, Boyz II Men were not even worried about competing with The Tempts. They loved them dearly, so why the hell would they WANT to out shine them, this wasn't about them, they just wanted to pay tribute to the group that had to happen in order for THEM to happen...
You are so right. It was a beautiful moment. I know the parents of Boyz to Men had to be so excited to see their kids perform with The Temps and The Temps are gentlemen that so enjoyed being with the new, young group. It touched my heart to see the young group pay homage to the older group. Amazing experience for both groups, indeed.
However you frame it -- Boys to Men are GREAT but they are NOT in the same league as the TEMPTATIONS. If they wanted to they could not out shine the TEMPTATIONS. In just a flat out singing contest -- NOT MANY GROUPS in History compared with the TEMPTATIONS.. And yes Boys to Men -- Loved the Temptations. It's all over their faces.

Boyz ll Men is the best r&b group of the last thirty plus years (top three all time) and the Temptations are the best r&b group of all time... Appreciate greatness and stop trying to put them against each other, Boyz ll Men held it down but the originators took it home... But give me the original lineup of the Temptations, now they were unstoppable 🔥.!!!
Ollie Ali Woodson was an extremely "under-rated" lead singer for the Temptations. I give Otis credit for keeping the group together, but I also understand part of his motivation: he was not a strong lead singer and he was without doubt the weakest dancer of the quintet, still he kept it together! kudos!
clearly my all-time two favorite male groups. One can ever compare with the Temptations or Boyz II Men. both groups have gone through many changes but that Soulful sound is still present.

I don't see what others are even talking about in regards to competing I only see two very talented groups from the Motown stable doing what they do best and that was to bring their talents and soulful sounds for the audience to appreciate and enjoy, both are very talented and dynamic groups.
So this couldnt have been the first time they had gotten together to do anything, because they were label mates at Motown... So they must have had a good line of love and communication at all times.... Unlike many artists today who dont know how to show love or respect to those who came before them... or dont even care... They dont want to learn from the past....
I soooo agree!!! I am up there in age and I never heard other artist openly disrespect each other in my years of listening to music. New artist always gave props to the artist before them. This level of disrespect is probably why the music business is so awful now. (Besides the awful way records companies would rob their artist.)

In my opinion Boyz II Men was a better group than the Temptation that showed up on the Arsenio Hall that night. Wanya is 19/20 (I think) and in full BEAST MODE. Sorry there was only one singer that could F!@# wit Wanya at this time Stokley Williams from Mint Condition. But if the original Temptations showed up with Williams, Kendricks, and Ruffin, or Dennis Edwards. SHOOOOOOOOOOOT! NO EFFIN CONTEST. Temptations ALL DAY EVERY DAY!
