As much as I admire Alan Jones' career in motorsport, its interesting to hear his comment about 'typical John Bowe' early in this video. AJ was one of those in Group A at the time who if he couldn't pass someone he'd just punt them off the road to gain a place. He wouldn't get anywhere in today's racing, he'd forever be in the pits serving drive through penalties.....
Absolutely. I remember seeing many times at meetings in the 80's, especially when he was in the Alfa, he would enter just about every corner with brakes locked up, diving under someone forcing them to get out of the way lol.
While I agree its criminal what CAMS did to the Nissan's in 1992, I think its pretty obvious they are sandbagging here. No doubt that Richo and Skaifey were under strict orders from Fred Gibson to not win. Gibbo wanted the GT-R's back in 1991 trim, and who could blame him. However it also must be said that especially the Sierra's benefited from the 7,500 rpm limit. According to Johnson and Bowe the engines were now tuned for torque and not horsepower. Apparently it made them faster and a fair bit easier to drive.
