Minis were known for doing there diffs and losing control like we saw here, thank God the Marshall survived, Minis were very fast but very very deadly, something not mentioned enough.
I didnt know Harvey could be such a dick. The move on Berger may have been 50/50. But O'Brien? He really slammed the door shut when it wasn't his turn. But hey, he got away with it until he slipped. Thankfully lots of steering lock on this circuit for drivers to pull those incredible saves a la Finnigan when he overdrove his anvil to stay in punching distance to Mr Precision Line Bond's slotcar.
Many of the big names Johnson, Brock, Moffat, Percy were not there as Moffat and Brock were travelling back from Spa though Harvey was back in time to commentate but Johnson was hoping that the RS500 would be homologated in time for Johnson to take part but the field did not have a single Ford Sierra which meant no Ford teams and drivers which disappointed the European based Ford teams who would have needed the data from the Australian Ford teams on the Calder Roval
I loved group A racing. Watching different types of cars racing against each other. Unlike the old v8’s ford vs Holden and now GM vs Ford America. Boring!
People that can’t read between the lines of Holden and Ford and dislike a driver because he drove a Ford are the biggest losers in Australia, Johnson was just as much a king of the mountain as brock was, bloody legend
That video explains an awful lot about the driving style of lots of us in that era - many of us who played in amatuer motorsport in that era also have similar driving styles apparently.
Bloody stupid centrelock wheel falls off the Fancydick Ovlov. And Gricey did NOT make the start line. Masterton also loses a centre lock. Brock had a broken rocker,, I believe they were still using factory tin rockers at the time.
