You know it won't pass emissions tests and regulations of today, well that is if it does come equipped with a 13 or 20B. If it does come with an LS then it might have a chance of passing emissions tests =P.

I know this comment is 5 years old but it's kinda weird a channel dedicated to mazda would say they're hoping for the return of the FD like it's plausible. The FD cannot exist again, it's the product of a bygone era.

what is effini? and what is fd3s? everything I've read has claimed that "fd3s" is just the name for the japanese model, but a couple american guys have sworn up and down that it's a model type like r1, r2 etc.. can someone please tell me what effini and fd3s really are? I am aiming to buy an FD in spring and want to know as much as possible. Right now I am mostly on the fence about whether to get a sunroof or not. I could enjoy a sunroof occasionally, but I could also enjoy knowing that i'm saving weight by not having one. any input on THAT topic would be great, too!

David Huffman Yeah effini is like model of car. ex mazda rx7 or effini rx7 eagle talon or mitsubishi eclipse. same car just named different. effini was a starter brand for rx7 and then sold as mazda. thats why we have 93 mazda rx7 and 92 effini rx7. 92 was first year for rx7s in japan, 93 in north america wich was mazda. for sunroof thats type x in japan. type r basically means racing. in north america you get the touring model with a sunroof and leather seats bunch of other crap...I have type x so that would be touring standards in japan if it was american. If you want performance go for latest model type R bathurst. But really buy any model and make it your own. usually JDM is better because they are more performanced based while north america was luxury/performance. not sure about UK. maybe a little more performanced? Do some research on your goals. If you want to buy with best options for rx7 look em up. but if youre planning​ a build then its not as important. Japan has usually the best model. Go for a 2002 Rx7 Bathurst or type R for "factory" best performance. my car is a little heavy for rx7s but it is the first year with all its flaws. in 2002 they really made rx7 better. lighter parts, extra oil cooler. gear ratios, more hp, options for stiffer suspention, you know the usual for cars being made better as time goes on from manufacturer. fd3s fc3s to me another name to say what generation or rx series you got. FC FD. rx7 Rx3 just lets you know what model youre reffering to. Saying subaru impreza wrx sti. thats a gc8 sti. sti wasnt its own thing yet. so sti took wrx's and made them sti's. added parts to them. we have sti and wrx. different but kinda same with different goals. performance package or just subaru. subaru is already sporty but sti is subaru's even more sporty car. Well supposed to be.

Going single is worth it IMO and today there are single turbos that will support 400whp and have less lag than the twins even down low. Really clean up the engine bay too if you mount it low. I certainly get where you are coming from though and it's something I would advise doing while you get a rebuild.

i have sort of a similar story. My dad and his 3 brothers all have classic muscle cars, a couple uncles have several of them, so I've always grown up being a fan of them. It's felt kind of nice because the majority of people my age (I'm 27) are really into japanese imports and occasionally euro stuff.. well, I'm a true enthusiast so I like EVERYTHING. Every car has its own pros and cons... i love the sound of a big block with a lumpy cam, so I bought a big block '66 four-speed chevelle. I also love nimble 4 bangers on steroids, so I bought an evo 9 and tuned it to 450hp. Now I'm in the market for an FD Rx-7.. originally I planned to do an LS swap, I hated hated hated the idea of a rotary.. everything I heard about it from the reliability to the fact that it has no torque.. I just didn't care for the high revving aspect, and it sounded like ASS to me! Well, fast forward a few years and my tune has changed. The ugly yet lovable go-kart esque sound of a built rotary has drawn my attention in the same way that an ugly dog that is completely loyal does.. and you start to find reasons why you love it. Essentially it is japan's version of a lumpy cam lol. I have read a ton of things about how to maintain and keep up with the rotary so I am feeling more confident about keeping it running, but if it DOES prove to be too much for me- I will swap it. Now that I have the chevelle, I don't want to put a chevy v8 in there, but a 2jz! One of my favorite motors of all time :) My 2 cents at the end of a LONG post... buy all of them

may have been a long read, but totally worth it. I started to decide what i want and honestly since I'm a college student a rx8 has a lot of practical uses. I was looking at a few 09 GT and R3 models. if the motor would go out i would fix it, However, i already talked to some of my family members who are fabricators and some are willing to help me drop a big v8 into it if i needed to. But really i would get the car because of the rotary motor. ITs different and unlike most things on the road today. I can't wait to buy one. Then get to saving up for a older mopar then get an FD. That is the battle plan anyway xD.

Effini was a luxury brand from Mazda that they sold the FD under in Japan since the car was large enough that owners had to pay extra taxes. They had Effini as the top tier, Eunos as the fun brand, Mazda as the everyman brand, and Autozam as the cheap entry level brand. FD3S appears in japanese VINs and JM1FD appears in american VINs. R1 and R2 were just trim levels like the base model and touring, FD is the actual chassis designation.

So if people in America are selling an American made left hand drive FD, it is impossible to be an fd3s correct?

Yeah only the FD part appears in the American VIN though it doesn't really matter since they're all the same chassis and manufactured in Hiroshima. The real advantage of the JDM cars is that they kept selling them and improving performance for 7 years after they stopped selling them in the US.

I've been a vw/audi enthusiast since I started driving and we got a donation of 100+ silicone hoses and t-bolt clamps. The intercooler kit was used and instead of using a pipe that was cut and two couplings, i opted to use one hose, even though its not ideal. Doesn't matter anyways since its all been removed for a custom Vmount setup.

10psi of boost on non sequentials. And that's 93octane. The pumps at that gas station are switched around a little, I find myself almost putting 87 in it all the time haha.

The_Stafinator I don’t daily drive the car, but I’ve been driving it more and more. Gets driven in winter on occasion too and it WILL NOT get warm at all. It’s great lol.

I drove mine daily for about 18 years. It wasn't bad at all really, aside from when I dropped the drive shaft when I snapped the PPF I drove it to the shop for service. Up to 2001 it was bone stock until it needed to be rebuilt after Mazda let in overheat in the parking lot from botched water pump installation. I started modding after that. My biggest pain the ass is electrical problems constantly but the wiring is nearly 25 years old now. The problem you will have is finding one you know has been maintained properly, I bought mine new.

YES!!! 100% agree on PREMIX. That was literally my first purchase with this car. I still have the OMP so I only mix about 5oz. per tank and use CONVENTIONAL oil. From my understanding, synthetic does not burn as clean and results in carbon buildup.

If you liken cars to dogs... Hondas=Labs easy, simple, forgiving Rx7/8s=Pit bulls demanding, high maintenance, experience needed
