Ricky Waters amassed almost 15K yards and close to a 100 TDs both as a RB and receiver. He had six straight seasons of of over 1K rushing yards after leaving the 49ers. One of the most dynamic backs in the history of the game. San Francisco was never the same team in the 90s after they allowed Ricky to walk
Ricky Watters is definitely one of the most underrated backs to play the game. Another interesting fact about this game is that it was the first time the 49er team had beaten the Giants in the playoffs but didn’t win the Super Bowl. Their previous 2 victories in ‘81 and ‘84, resulted in the 49ers winning the NFC Championship and Super Bowl.
I remember my grandma hated how Young would dive head first and almost kill himself at least once a game. My grandma and I had an amazing connection with the 9era together. She passed this Thanksgiving. The last time I saw her she gave me a Kittle jersey
Before this game, Giant opponents scored above 20 points only twice the whole season (including the Cowboys in the "shoulder" game). The 49ers had that much in the 2nd quarter. Credit to how the Niners came out aggressive and confused the Giants defense. Nolan didn't do his homework like Belichick did.
Ricky Waters belongs in the Hall of Fame. Statistically, I think he's the most valuable player to not be in (in terms of overall value added to his teams). Part of the problem is that those teams were so stacked with talent that he was often overshadowed.
He was the difference in making the Philadelphia Eagles of the mid 90s into a playoff team. Those teams weren't very good but his versatility in both the running and passing game made him such a significant part of their offense.
@@jonjonbailey4314 Warren Moon wasn't a Viking until 1994. The Oilers traded him there after they got beat by Montana in the 1993 AFC Divisional Playoff.
@@ludvigborga3676 oh what a weird concept now you can take away scores and change the outcome of games that happened? Nope didn't go down that hypothetical way that you completely made up. So if the 49ers didn't score 44 points they wouldn't have one this one!
@@edwardfights4900 The Giants Passing Game was limited in that Game due to the strong Wind. Phil Simms only had 94 Yds Passing so yeah if it hadn’t have been for Rodney, the Giants don’t win that Game.
These were real men who didn't need a bunch of bling and fancy dances in the end zone and crazy hair and body of jewelry just let their playing do its talking.
Muy buen juego ese día de RW Aplastante victoria sobre unos NYG que ya no tenien esa defensa de los finales de los 80's. Un retiro triste de un excelente jugador como LT.
What does every 49ers blowout playoff win have in common during this run? A Mike Cofer missed every point (or in the case of Super Bowl 23 a chip shot field goal that is shorter than an extra point)
0:42, CBS needs to bring this NFL Today theme back, and use all variations of it on their NFL coverage. It's a classic and way better then the current NFL theme they use.
@@Armis71 yep its pretty much (example) "The (Name Team) take on the (Name Team) in an (Name Division) marchup!" (Shows both teams' longest pass play and their 1 big defensive play)
Kind of funny both teams were huddled in prayer, considering you had quite a number of felons on both teams--more than usual even. Stubblefield, LT... they don't call it the National Felons League for no reason.
NY gets their comeuppance for injuring Joe Montana and rout in the ‘86 playoff game. Also sent out LT a loser in his last game ever. Too bad so sad bye bye. 😆
He was the best QB in the NFL in the early 90’s. Better than Aikman, Marino, Kelly and yes Montana. Watch the Niners playoff games in that era on my Channel. He was the NFL MVP in 1992 et 1994.
@@theeusthenopteron6483 Montana is the Greatest Ever! The only thing Brady has on Montana is VOLUME stats/accomplishments accumulated over a 22 year stretch playing in a softball league.
@@thegoat164 I know ! Montana was the best is the 80’s I saw is whole career. Imagine Brady playing the great defenses of the 80’s and early 90’s.The Bears, Redskins, Eagles and Giants. He would have retired 10 years ago.
