In that case: I'd like a Big Mac with no pickles, curly fries, a 6" turkey on cheese with swiss... just the roll, meat, and cheese... a medium Faygo... a large Frosty... oh, and tack on some Mini Churros, please. Sorry... and a side of gravy.
i read your comment before i watched the video and i assumed there was a graphic that only added up to 99% and your comment was a joke about the last 1%, but no... they really put 1% die ahahahaha
"I've never been here before what do you recommend?" *Sweaty Old Country Buffet dude bursts through the wall* "H A V E Y O U T R I E D T H E L A S A G N A"
It's comically sad that during the 90's we all hated sitting through these videos for our first jobs.. yet here we all are in 2021 .. watching these damn videos..
Thinly sliced cuts taste better and you can always come back for more. Have you tried our lasagna, it’s my favorite! Hey, did you see that big mess in the bathroom? It smells terrible. Who wants seconds? 😂❤🎉
Exactly what I was thinking too. Even when I worked these jobs in the 90s (Subway strangely snubbed my application-- still offended) I remember thinking, what about the structure of these jobs makes these companies think these guys doing the bottom jobs have any reason to care if people come back? There were no bonuses, commissions, not even really any real promotion potential for these positions. They didn't give people (and still do not) making food at the direct point of sale any motivation at all to care if the company sank or swim or if nobody came into the store, yet seemed to think they just should care.
How my Subway career came to an end. Nirvana was in town and I really wanted to go but had to work that night. A customer came in before the show and accidently dropped two tickets on the floor of which I found and put behind the counter waiting for that person to come back and claim them. A couple hours go by and nobody did SO I just locked the building up and went to the concert. I'm glad I did because Cobain was dead about 8 months later and would never be a Subway customer ever again.
I feel so many emotions watching this!!! Subway was my first real job in 1992, and my training video was nearly identical. I worked in Hawaii, and the tourists could be so damn rude. I was required to wash my hands between EVERY customer! Wish fast-food employees would still be as professional today. I certainly had to kiss customer ass, upsell, make small talk, etc. I miss the top cut on the sub, but I can see why they no longer do it-me and my coworkers CONSTANTLY cut our fingers because of the way you have to do it, like all bloody hell cuts. I couldn't eat bologna for 10 years because the Cold-Cut-Combo was our best selling sub-hundreds per day I would make! Hated the dumb club card, pain in the ass, waste of time. If you think people in the video looked super dorky, in the time period we also thought they were super dorky. To sum it up: never thought I'd be watching a Subway training video 29 years later, at 12 am, on a little thing called a cell phone lol😱🤯
One thing that hasn't changed in 2023 is how out of touch people on high salaries in head office are with what the atmosphere is like on the shop floor in these large companies
@@OldDustyVHSTapes I mean obviously theyve added a butt load of sandwiches and bread types and drink options and pizza options. But like, the classics are still there, and almost exactly the same.
The "bad" example at the end is hilarious. Aside from the guy taking a personal call and for too long, it was totally fine. The people behind this had no idea what actual customer interactions are like and how people hate upsells
That was along the lines of my thinking as well, I've gotten far worse service in The last 5 years most places, than the first guy gave. Other than him distracted at the start I think he did fine minus the yelling into the back.
Honestly that probably has to do with the filming lights. They used to be extremely hot and bright. They pretty much use LEDs now so although they're still bright they're not quite as intense as The ones used in the past
Exactly. I believe they called it boat style cut. Now when I ask for that cut none of the employees know what I am talking about. It was so much better for keeping the toppings in.
@@ansleyjackson3339 I honestly believe the reason why they don’t vote cut anymore… It’s because of the quality of bread it is so bad and the bread is almost hollow on the inside. If you look at this video you can legit see how thick the damn bread is…. I remember having this in the 90s when I was about seven and it was one of the best sandwich I’ve ever had. Had one last week and I could barely finish it it was so nasty
I miss the inside wallpaper and it always had that amazing Subway smell. Now, the three in my area are inside gas stations and just looks like your typical place to get food.
Now hang on a minute. Maybe it was a phone order. Then again, why would she open a phone order in the store? Wow… that was much more analysis than I was anticipating
I like how the subway employee didn’t look annoyed because the customer didn’t start off with the length and type of bread at the beginning of the order.
I love the whole you have to act courteous as the customer chews you out portion as if the Customer isn't an adult who is responsible for their outbursts and condescending tones
@@floraflowers What a hilariously awful concept: reward immature toddler behaviour from adults with free stuff, thereby incentivising them to do it even more in the future.
Very typical corporate thinking. Blame the employee. 68% customer loss because of poor service. Hey, maybe if they pay a better wage they will get what they want, better attitude and more customers.
@@UncleHoCM Then give the stores idk a secret shopper every idk 2-3 month, Sloppy joes on the line, Does a shite job report to head office, 3 strike system failure to fix their attitude either re training or the sack. And besides the subway pay really does look bad.
that's the typical Millennial attitude and why you guys get nowhere in life. if you're good at your job and you provide good customer service you're going to get paid more. nobody owes you a living and if you don't know how to behave like a decent human being and provide good customer service don't take a customer service job. why so many businesses fail in America people have the same attitude you do and they get complacent. they forget the customers are actually the ones giving them the paycheck.

I've had "sandwich artists" who were much much worse than that guy in this video. I've seen two guys working behind the counter get into a fistfight. Also had a young female worker cry the whole time she was making my sandwich because the manager yelled at her.

I miss the old 80s and 90s decor at Subway!! SO nostalgic. I used to love going there as a kid throughout the 90s & getting my little treat: a cold cut combo on wheat or a meatball on italian bread, six inch always with the american cheese. The smell of the bread baking when coming through the doors was downright delightful. People can talk all they want about the sandwiches now but I still really like 'em & think they're nicely made. My favorites now are the steak & cheese & spicy italian!

1% of customers don't come back because they die? There's really no way to prevent that, unless they're dying because of your food, and if that is the case, customer service shouldn't be your top priority.
If you ran the ideal business, then 100% of your customers don't come back because they die, since that's the only thing nobody can control (especially a nationwide chain where people can't move away). What it's showing is 82% of customers leave cause they get pissed off at something, and 14% leave because another store did a better job.
Dunno y but the way the customer made face at the employee and angrily put the sub on the counter accompanied by the dramatic track lol I am cracking 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 19:27 oh the hyperbolic 90s!
At least the old country buffet video seemed more geared toward actual customer service. This video just made me feel like like I tried to sell everyone food they didn’t want.

As a Subway Sandwich artist it is absolutely amazing how something from 30 years ago still applies. Like most of this video can still be utilized in today's market but the prices it's amazing just how much they are now compared to then. And also Subway should bring back the subclub and this new refresh there about to do where all the sandwiches have new names and have set recipes I'm not really fond of it but I must do my job and deliver what I am asked to do. Although I wish Subway would go back to their past a little bit as with this video and stop trying to make things so complicated because the thing about Subway that was so special was the simplicity. I personally feel that the new changes are going to drive the customer away but only time will tell.
But they did miss out what to do when some pyschotic out of control thug jumps the counter and starts bashing you over the head with a chip frying basket.
Walk into the subway in my town. They get up angrily, tell you they're out of whatever you want to order, and if you do buy something refuse to take any bill over a 10
Last few times I was at a Subway, it was insane. They were usually out of something, one time they were out of ALL BREAD. Or the employees closed the Subway shop anytime they felt like it, literally hours before closing time, two, three hours before closing time. Once, me and two other people (didn't know them), walked up to the shop to get a sandwich, finding it closed hours before it was supposed to. Through the window, one of the employees was just staring at all of us, standing stock-still & refusing to move, LOL. No sandwiches for us! Finally, it shut down altogether. Oh well.
This is a story from ‘92. I got a job at Subway. The fella assigned to train me showed me how he licked clean the utensils. He, along with others, told me about the drug dealers in their trailer park. I think I excelled because I could speak. Halfway through my first day the guy that hired me told me he was moving me to another location that had problems and was making me an assistant manager. I quit. If I was that good relative to your other employees at that point in my life, we’re all in trouble.
