The Bears had a very brief glimmer of hope in the beginning on that turnover. But the Niners could have probably had 10 turnovers in the game and still won.
Those 1994 49ers Uniforms were solid on the road and home. They ones they tried to replicate in 1996 were a overdone version of the 1994 jerseys. I.E. Simpler is better at times.
William Floyd had injuries, a shortish career, and no major media accolades, but on a per-play basis, I consider him one of the greatest fullbacks to ever play the game. He always made a major impact. It’s too bad he couldn’t have played ~10 healthy seasons, because he would have put up a Hall of Fame resume.
I think this was the first year the "FOX Box" constant on-screen score graphic debuted. As a certified boomer, this was a huge deal at the time. It took a few years for the other networks to catch up.
Agreed, although I don't think the 97 and 98 versions were elite teams. 97 they lacked the game breaker on offense. By 98 the defense was too old. 95 definitely hurts 92 Dallas was the better team but sf could have beaten then had they not lost the turnover battle 4-0, and missed 1 or 2 fgs with 1 td lost to penalty. Their defense was decent in the first half. Missed opportunities indeed. Great times though.
I'm a die hard Niner fan and you are kinda right but you're talking about the NFC in the 90s. The Cowboys and Packers were no joke, especially when Deion jumped ship and went to the Cowboys in 95. Favre won 3 MVPs in a row in that era.
@@karensabin7390 Neither. That team was so damn deep that McCaffrey had to play special teams. Otherwise, who else would I sit out-- Not Brent Jones? Not Ricky Watters?? Not William Floyd?? All of them were pro-bowlers as well.
I still have his card from that year. We got him after the Giants parted ways with him and looked like a bust. I liked him then and was a guy I hoped would get the ball when he would get on the field as a substitution or to get a chance on special teams. You could tell he was a scrappy receiver that could make any team better if given the opportunity. He played in that Super Bowl against San Diego and was so well liked by their offensive coordinator that Ed went with that coordinator when hired as the new head coach in Denver. That man was Mike Shanahan and the rest was history.
The 49ers and Bears would not play against each other again until 2000, when Terrell Owens would set the single-game receptions record in Jerry Rice’s final home game as a 49er.
Matt Millen calling his first playoff game as an analyst. Stockton's first since he worked a Redskins at Bears divisional contest at CBS from the 1986 season, working with Dan Dierdorf right before he departed for ABC.
@@kidmack1121 Had Summerall wouldve been fired for that "drinking incident" he had late in 1990, Stockton mayve been his successor. But Verne Lundquist (usually Pat's fill-in) mayve had the inside track.
1:09 Young runs it in, gets smacked late in the end zone, spikes it in dude's face, and then the best player in the league comes in and is the first to defend him. That's why this team won the Bowl.
SF KOd the Giants more than once in the 80s too. Imagine how many Superbowls the Giants Redskins Bears or 49ers would've been to if they played in the AFC.
2:15:00 Out of all the shows they were promoting for Fox’s Sunday lineup, only two lasted more than 5 seasons As of July 2019, The Simpsons are *STILL* on the air
0:22:33 whoa I had zero recollection of Anthony Carter ever playing for the Lions! He only played in 4/16 games that season so makes sense I missed it. The little segment there makes it seem like he was a major contributor to their team that year.
Steve Young's 1994 Niners scored 505 points. TO put that in perspective, the Cowboys of 1992 #2 offense scored 373. Cowboys only allowed 14 points a game so of course they won it all in 92. The 98 Vikings blew the doors off the league with 556 points, then Randy Moss went on to break a record he had a large role in with the 2007 with 589 points. But that's not quite a new normal, The highest scoring offense of 2017 is only 478 points. Steve Young is fucking awesome, and yet all I heard in the 90's was how much he sucks. A LOT of out of market bandwagon niners fans jumped off saying he's no Joe Montana.
How could you say out of market fans say he’s no Joe Montana... ANY kind of fan should say that. He wasn’t even close to Montana. Lost way too many big games way too many. Started losing to Chris chandler and the falcons. It was time to hang em up
Montana had WAY more help than SY did. So there's that. That said, SY has had some forgettable playoff games. There is no shame in not being Montana. SY was one of my favorite 4 of 5 players ever.
The last season my Hometown Boys won the SB. Doubt I'll ever see that again... Hey, remember when football was so much more fun to watch without all the pansy penalties we see today?
We would've had 2 more Super Bowl wins had it not been for the horrid officiating in SB 47 and 54. The NFL for some reason didn't want us to win those games. -.-
Yup. I was born in 1992. This was the first year (that I can actually recall - I was 2 years old in 1994) where the Bears were in as anything other than division champs. They won the division in 01, 05, 06, 10, and 18. One and done in the years they would have had to go on the road afterwards. In the years they advanced, they always hosted (or played neutrally in SB XLI). They backed in this year as a wild card and went to New Orleans. In 2011, they were a shoe-in to make it as the NFC's top wild card. GB was undefeated and the Bears were 7-3. Winners of 5 straight and playing great with an easy upcoming schedule. Then, Cutler and Matt Forte went down with season ending injuries. They went on to lose 5 in a row before finishing 8-8 and missing out. Just an odd series of coincidences that led to them never going on the road in the playoffs.
@@TheWakeup011 he was hurt most of the season. He got injured in week 2 against the Chiefs and missed 95% of the season. As such, he finished the season with 2 sacks. It's why a lot of people don't remember he was on that team. I think he played in the first two regular season games, and this playoff game was it. When he left this game injured, it kept him out of the Cowboys Championship game and the super bowl against the Chargers.
I feel badly for Trey Lance our last number one pick not working out. On a kick off Doug Brien needed a holder another number one pick Dana Hall who never really contributed to the Niner defense if the idea was a substitute for Ronnie Lott that didn’t work out either.
Man, just seeing how many hard hits they gave QBs back in the day, I know Tom Brady would've never have survived previous eras, let alone everyone demanding that he's the GOAT.
Though the Bears would go 0/2 on 2pt attempts in this one, they did score the very first 2pter in Monday Night Football history early that 94 season on a Kramer to Conway score vs the Eagles.
🗣️ Bears HC should've pulled Walsh after the 1st Quarter he wasn't showing the bears NOTHING that San Francisco Defense shut him and the Bears completely Down Steve Young picked that Bears Defense apart
Exactly and I was born in 92 and I love this kind of football it was real the field was real u felt the intensity of the teams playing good tackles no bs calls it was what it was football 🏈
Steve Walsh is wearing #4, which used to belong to Jim Harbaugh, who would go on to coach the 49ers to a Super Bowl 18 years after this game took place.
Unarguably the 1994 49ers were the most talented team ever assembled. What team had as many future HOF and pro bowl players? Why Watters and Sanders left is beyond me. That team wins 3 or 4 Super Bowls in a row easy.
97 49ers were loaded too, (Kevin Greene, Rod Woodson) but team got forgotten cos lost to the packers and the playoffs. It was the year Rice got injured and TO started to emerge. However, the 94 team was bit better thansk to Watters. HIs absense was never replaced.
49ers would not address that small weak offensive line. The reason they lost all the rest of their big games after 94. Stronger faster bigger dlineman were terrorizing young.
Whoa Curtis Conway is married to Laila Ali? I had no idea. Looks like they got married in 2007, so he probably wasn’t doing any trash talking related to that in 1994.
They completely shut the bears down Walsh was some trash he laid a goose 🦆 🥚 egg that day karmer should've played earlier he had the stronger arm and didn't seem phased when he was playing in the 4th Quarter but it was to late that bears Head coach lost this game for his team they played tough at first but got the fight knocked out of them by Steve Young after that the bears offense was a shell there defense got tired and gave up alot of yards lmao looked like pee wee football team out there
Crappy qb play, shitty ocs, lack of talent on offense...dinosaur offenses in da 90s even with Jim Harbaugh

The bears literally had no chance against this incredible niners squad. This niners team had one of the greatest offenses this league has ever seen and were really good on defense too. They averaged 44 ppg in the playoffs 🔥 Over their finals 13 games of year including the 3 postseason games they averaged an astounding 37.5ppg 😂 This was the BEST 49ers team overall. Forget the record not being as good as the 89 or 84 teams. This team was more talented on both ends especially offensively
This was Richard Dent's first game back after missing the last 14 games of the regular season with a knee injury. But then reinjured his knee and missed the Super Bowl.
Three times in 11 seasons the 49ers beat the Bears 🐻 in the playoffs, pretty badly. All three times, the Niners went on to win the Super Bowl. The Bears are my backup team. That's no fun.
Always appreciate the content, Bart. Do you think you could upload a few Packers games from 2007? Namely, Packers vs Chargers where Favre tied the TD record, Packers vs Broncos with the walkoff TD and Packers vs Vikings where Favre set the all time TD record?
1:37:48 FOX with the typo on the 49ers punter’s last name. And frankly, who can blame them. The Niners would have never punted this game if they kept the starters in.
I remember this game, that season was so much fun. Does anyone happen to have the 1992 game against the Lions, Montana's last game in a 49ers uniform. I'd love to watch that second half again (I had a copy but it go corrupted and I can't find it again)..
21:40 was a great play design. His 1st read was who he targeted and the RB was a second option if the end rushed. But the RB was able to keep him away by running a route which left the Bears QB WIDE open to set his feet. The coverage basically fell to man and had the QB taken 2 seconds to set his feet, that would've been a guaranteed TD.
as a 49er fan....I do believe anything can happen in the playoffs, what ever u done in the regular season. gets tossed out the window. and u should never ever your take other team lighty and always play hard no matter what.....bt in this game......the 49ers won this game before the game got started...b/c i believe steve young needed to prove that can help a team win a super bowl and the rest of the players fed off of that...
1:09:16 someone already commented about this is where Brent Jones made the comment about messing with our ring. You don't mess with the person that got you where you are. So if someone cheap shots your quarterback, you go kick his ass no matter what. If Shaun Gayle hurt Young at that play and Young couldn't play or his performance was reduced to that hit then guess who's fault that would have been. So again as a teammate you automatically are going to fight that player who is again messing with your golden goose.
I remember 16-year-old me not being mad at all when Shaun Gayle floored Young and my dad, a Browns fan with no skin in the game, immediately saying Gayle should be thrown out. He was right. It was just a totally frustrating day as a Bears fan. Now, I feel much differently watching this.
1:09:19 and this is partly why this team won it all .. teams that stick together like this are usually very dangerous and formidable.. reminds me the steelers when I forgot his name threw bradshaw to the ground and a steeler came over and confronted the guy .. exact same scenario as this except the steeler play wasn't a td play though
Spellman put a HIT on Young 57:04-50 i felt that one... no roughing the passer... FREE SHOT Id love it if real hitting came back to the NFL 58:10 perfect CALL A TIME OUT........... hahaha 1:09:07 Young TD....... takes cheap shot.. spikes the ball at the defender.. Rice comes in along with the whole team
That's why you as a teammate have to go and kick the guy's ass because if Young got hurt and couldn't play against the Cowboys guess who would be blamed for that. So you as the teammate do whatever is necessary to protect your asset especially your quarterback.
Steve Young, The all time Great Quarterbacks need to be judged on what they ACTUALLY do on the field, consistently, one drive at a time, one game at a time. Just like every other position. Nobody says "Adrian Peterson? He's no (2 ring) LeGarrett Blount. He's not even (2 ring) Brandon Jacobs." Drew Brees might never win another title, and that has nothing to do with his greatness.
Prime Young was like a build your own character in a video game with all stats set at maximum. Arm strength, supreme accuracy, best footwork I've ever seen, speed. Athleticism, elusiveness, leadership, iron clad will to win. No QB in history ever had as many tools in their toolbox as Steve Young. There's a lot of reasons he didn't win more championships that have nothing to do with how good he was.
