Oksana Grishuk & Evgeny Platov are legends and public sweethearts. They are still unbeatabale. There is no one couple who has won two olympic golds withot any lost.
@loosewings1946 It was a diverse, international audience. And they know corruption when they saw it - Russians are immune to that sort of thing, as it is part of their make-up. Sad, but happily, Russia is now banned from competing in sport.
Sure, the cheers and the standing ovations from the audience when the olympic winnes - Grishuk & Platov come on the podium. The best couple ever and public sweethhearts.
HA! Because Zhulin was cheating Usova, had an affairs with Grishuk ,promised to marry her, wanted Oksana to leave FSkating, then found Tatiana Navkf immideateley, broken up with Usova and Grishuk!!! and ,arried Navka!! Oksana's venom to Zhulin, who was very "playful" with figure-skating girls. !!!
well John-Paul, every one has own favorites. But Grishuk and Platov are judges and crowd favorites. They have the best technique and they have new directionin ice-dancing. Grishuk and Platov repair their titel the next four years, including the next Olympic games in 1998.
@@loosewings1946 Russia is now BANNED from international competition. They should never have been allowed to compete in the first place. Cheats, through and through. Happily, we don't have to worry about them any more.
Thanks for posting this. After such a controversial decision, I'd always wondered how this medal ceremony went. Just as I expected: really awkward. Maya having to congratulate the woman who'd had an affair with her husband. Torvill and Dean having to congratulate two couples who shouldn't have beaten them, IMHO. And the least popular of the three couples winning the gold and getting the most lukewarm applause from the audience. Sheesh.
Maya was already having to deal with the fact that her husband was carrying on at that time with another mistress, Tatiana Navka. At that time, Zhulins' affair with Grishuk was old news.
If you mean "sliding" as "falling on sliding on the ice, instead of dancing/skating, then you are correct in that the Russians were much better at falling than Torvill and Dean.
At the time of these Olympics, I wasn't as much into skating as I am now so watching what Tracy Wilson said about the violations was enlightening and frustrating. Torvill and Dean have one violation, and are deducted, yet G&P had three and aren't deducted? I do remember my parents and their friends talking about this and complaining about it. Listening to what Rod Black, Debbie Wilkes and Brian Orser said they seem to also question it (I'm Canadian, so watch CTV)
That was the problem with the ice dance back then, it was all politics. Grishuk and Platov also had violations. More, IMO, then T&D. However, Torvill and Dean are legends and are all class. Talk about a soap opera, though, with G&P and U&Z! So glad ice dance is no longer a political affair.
U&Z's program was not only dull but they clearly could not handle the content. Their free dance that year had way more content that what's typical for them. By the time they got to the final section, they looked like they were crawling over the ice as their speed and flow went way way down.
still was a joke the winners actually fell and still won, I hated this scoring system in Ice Dance. To think now how different scoring was then and who the frequent winners were all the time. What a change now ehh?
Sure, the cheers and the standing ovations from the audience when the olympic winnes - Grishuk & Platov come on the podium. The best couple ever and public sweethearts!
shame for the fans who don't understand ice-dance and send us stupid messages. Sure, the cheers and the standing ovations from the audience when the olympic winnes - Grishuk & Platov come on the podium. The best couple ever and public sweethearts.
