What an awesome time for NASCAR. I'm glad I was around for this decade of the sport, 70s and 80s as well. To me, these were the best times with some of the toughest drivers. You see these guys just whooped in victory lane. You also got to see the behind the scenes closeness we never saw before when Rusty mentions he visited Earnie almost every week. Just a cool time, I miss it.
Thank you Dave. I was 9 yrs old in 94' bought this cassette tape with my own money at Dover in the crazy driver haulers that drove all the merchandise around
Man , Ernie Irvan and that Robert Yates 28 Havoline was dialed in . If Irvan doesn't wreck doing practice laps that season no telling how close the Championship would have been . Earnhardt and Irvan was way ahead of 3rd place in the standings .
I was a Dale Earnhardt fan and was at Daytona for my first 500 when Neil was killed. I had the ultimate privilege be in the stands at Rockingham when Dale won the race and his 7th championship in 94.
Fun to watch these old races , so many memories come rushing back . It was an awesome time for NASCAR , the 90’s were pretty much the peak of stock car racing . Can’t wait until Daytona .
This was the first year my dad and I really got into watching NASCAR in general. He would tape just about every race, including the Busch series races.
Liked Elliott's interview after winning at Darlington, saying it's been too long since his last win only 2 years ago, but of course not knowing that his next win would come 7 years later!
Even though Wallace led all those laps at the first Pocono race, he actually needed a final lap pass to get by Earnhardt. It was looking like a runaway until a late caution- he had a 21-second lead with 7 laps to go
Considering that Bill Elliott was awarded the most popular driver award 16 times in his career, as a relative newcomer to NASCAR myself, what was it that made him so popular with the fans?
The legend of awesome Bill from Dawsonville just resonated with people. Just the way he talked tickled people to death lol. On the racetrack his Ford built cars were feared for their speed and his own driving skill was a tough combo to beat. He was just so darn likeable
Wonder how many of Alan Kulwicki's employees were retained by Geoff Bodine when the latter purchased the late 1992 champion's team. Hopefully it was as many as possible
06:39, Picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel. Five missing lug nuts and a stop in the back of the field. Picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel.
Geoff Bodine should have won a few races this year but had engine problems. Rusty Wallace should have won the champiinship with as many wins as he had but this was the old point system same as Sterlin Marlin in i believe it was 2002 or 2003 in the Coors Lite Dodge Intrepid but got into a bad accident & broke his coller bone & a young Jamie McMurray came in & won at Charlotte.
Footage of Neil's wreck is maybe only 5 seconds long and very low quality. There is no footage that I know of of Rodney's wreck, only aftermath footage of the track workers and car.
Does anyone know what happened with Ernie’s crash? Did he blow a tire and go head on into the wall? Or did he spin around and hit drivers side into the wall?
That #28 is cursed I swear. Even people who drove it afterwards, Kenny Irwin, ring any bells? Texaco, the 28, I know he died driving the 42 but the sponsor ended up on that car at one point. Still a mystery to me how they never ended up retiring the #28. Too many curses on that car.
