It's funny to think of a Club Cab as being mind-blowingly spacious by today's standards, but back in '95 it was a big deal for the Dodge Ram.

Drove a V10 3/4 ton for a couple years. It sucked fuel at an unbelievable rate, but it was a solid truck that could pull a trailer in the mountains without backing up traffic too badly, and it was comfortable to drive long distances. It's the only work truck I miss.

I havent seen a 90s gm truck on the road in years. All I see is dodges and Fords. Mostly Fords. GM and dodge just dont hold up as well as Ford. Especially in a harsh cold weather climate like Canada. Its rare to even see newer gm trucks here. Nobody likes them.

Oh man I remember the Dodge Ram on Walker Texas Ranger! In Georgia I still see many of all of the full size 1990s American trucks every day. The Ram’s styling has held up well and the full size Chevy and GMC trucks still look good for their age. Same for Ford.

@clintonstubbs2319 I think it was a peak era in design as well as simplicity while being modern enough in some regards. I think if you could get s brand new one of any of the big 3s trucks from the late 90s no one would turn it down.

I have a sentimental spot for them too. I learned how to drive in a '74 Adventurer twin cab. Three speed manual and power nothing. I'm convinced whoever designed the clutch and brakes for it went on to create the Nautilus exercise equipment. My dad figured if I could drive it well I could handle just about anything else.

You had to be there to understand how much these trucks changed the market. Sure, the build quality was typical dodge (outside the engine), but the style and the motor caught ford and gm flat footed.

The look and design are a great study in marketing. When first shown to test groups it was very polarizing. People either loved it or hated it. Chrysler was about to go with a more traditional look when someone dug deeper into the research. The people that loved it were far more likely to buy a truck than the people who didn't. It was decided that the second group were non customers regardless of how it looked and chose to ignore them.

@christopherconard2831 My dad was a long-time Dodge truck fan. When these came out, he was still driving his '77 Macho Power Wagon. He absolutely HATED the new style. @JETZcorp
@JETZcorp 7 месяцев назад
@robolsen3506 You have to remember, in 93 Dodge had like 5% of the pickup market, if even that. And a lot of that was Dakota. They went from that to being even with GM in 2 years. They were limited by the size of the factory. Ford were then and are still today the kings of fleet sales. A lot of those OBS F-series (Ford likes to lump them all together) were white-painted company rigs, ambulances, tow trucks, etc. Because companies had long relationships with Ford. Ram has only VERY recently started to crack into that segment. That's not a diss on Ford at all; they have EARNED their dominance of fleet sales by superior support and flexibility. While a 1996 F-150 would look relentlessly old-fashioned in the driveway, your boss would buy 35 of them. He knew that he could take them into a dedicated fleet service center for a quick turnaround, rather than take a fleet Ram or Chevy into the service department of the dealership and get offered a Neon or Saturn loaner for 3 weeks.

$25,102 for a full-size, extended-cab, 4WD pickup... Good luck finding one today for less than $50K! Truck prices are *insane* now! I remember when these first came out. They were a *very* big deal -- the styling was like nothing else. *Everyone* wanted one. Then after awhile things calmed down -- particularly after folks realized how terrible the transmissions were, but that took a couple of years. As long as you were prepared to spend $2K on a transmission replacement every 80,000 miles, they were fine. 😂

my all time favorite Dodge RAM line. some of the best looking trucks i have ever seen. im a gm truck fan but the dodge ram is my second favorite truck line. i liked it even more when it got that much needed refresh in '98 with the intro of the then all new quad cab config replacing the old club cab, the electric shaver sounding door chime with the more pleasant sounding bong bong bong chime, the old outdated rectangular side mirrors with the modern looking oval shaped blacked out ones, the dash got a nice makeover as well. my uncle is a mopar and ram guy and has been for decades and he had wicked beautiful 1999 ram 1500 4x4 with the monstrous 5.9 magnum v8 coupled with an aftermarket dual exhaust and boy the hair on my head just stood up everytime i rode in that thing. he put almost 300,000 miles on that bad boy. bought it almost like new in 2000. the one feature that stood out was the rainbow gray colored cloth seating.

In 1993, when I saw the preview of the new big-rig look of the 1994 Dodge Ram at the LA auto show, I knew that it would be a big hit, that I bought Chrysler Corp. stock. Mercedes/Daimler merged (bought them out) in 1997, mainly to acquire Jeep. Turned out to be a good move, still have Daimler stock, and their spinoff, Daimler truck, as a result of the merger. These were definitely a revolutionary design, especially for Dodge. I remember when I first seen one, couldn't believe it was a Dodge because thier previous truck design ran for over 20 years ,(which I happen to like too). I think this design has aged very well.
