That seemed to be the big problem for those Atlanta teams they would roll through the NL but when October came they just didn't play as strong except for maybe DJ and Jon Smolts didnt get clutch hits when needed and guys cox purposely played for defensive purposes would make errors it would piss me off cause everyone liked the braves in the 90s they were that dominant and consistent sad they only got the 1 championship cause it takes away from that amazing run.

My mom thought he was taller. I thought he was shorter. He's actually the same exact height as me. My mom was telling me "He's cute." I said to my mom "Then ask him out. He's right there. @captainkev10
@captainkev10 4 года назад
I dunno that's it's irony. Especially in the 90's, pitchers will go after hot hitters hugging the plate. If the hitter is on your team, you side with the hitter -- no matter what. Vice versa. That's how it goes. Very similar instances betwen GM1 and Gm5, but the difference is personality. Murray hugged the plate much more than Justice -- he's more hotheaded that DJ. Maddux knew what he was getting into. Hershiser knew too, when he threw in GM1. But in the end, it was Murray who cleared the benches. Orel and Greg worked it out on the mound, as men. No hypocrisy. Untouchable choirboys in negotiation. I love it. #ChopOn

This was really a great match-up. The clear-cut two best teams in baseball, teams with diametrically opposite styles (Indians with their offense, Braves with their pitching) and diametrically opposite ways of doing things (boisterous Indians, business-like Braves.) The Atlanta Braves won the most head to head against every team they played during their 14 straight division championships run. The Braves will always be the team of the 90s! The Braves were just the better team! Look at the Yankees and Blue Jays they lost for most of the decade. The history books worldwide calls the Braves the team of the 90s! That is a real nickname for the Braves. Just like the Amazin' Mets. You can't change history. The Braves are and will always own every team in the 90s in the regular season. Most games played between all the teams happened in the regular season. My Atlanta Braves own the Yankees team! My Atlanta Braves own the Phillies team! My Atlanta Braves own the Marlins team! Overall the Braves beat all those teams when those teams were at their very best most of time in the regular season even if they lost to those same teams in the playoffs. The Atlanta Braves only team of the 90s in baseball!

Irony I noticed here where they talk about the mistake Hargrove made in leaving Nagy in too long in Game 3, which cost them the lead but not the game. Bobby Cox made the exact same mistake in Game 3 four years later with Glavine--exact same situation. Down 0-2 in the series, up 5-3 in the game, low pitch count going into the 8th so he leaves him in. He also blew the lead and the Braves lost any chance they had to get back in the series and ended up getting swept. Hargrove's line was a bit naive too--saying Nagy had "handled Grissom and Polonia all night long and there was no reason to believe that wouldn't continue." Of course there was--good hitters adjust to pitchers after several times through the line-up. Same thing as happened to Glavine in that Game 3 of '99.

Tony Iacomi Man you seem to be all over the fact the Braves somehow won the World Series in 95? Stop making excuses and actually admit the Braves time was due and hard work pays off! When you have guys like Maddux, Glavine and Smoltz your gonna shut down a team on any given night and the Indians were no exception in this case. Get over it dude and how about make up an excuse how the Cubs somehow won in 16 after almost 100 years? You guys had chances 3 times in World Series play and choked but then again the teams that beat you WERE BETTER!!!
@tonyiacomi4822
@tonyiacomi4822 5 лет назад
@@tylerstephens7152 The Cubs were a better team. I didn't expect us to even be in the Series. Plus we had 2 starters out altogether. One was our 2nd best. I'm not making excuses. The Cubs were better. The Indians were better than the Braves though. They had 3 good pitchers and Wohlers. They didn't have much else. It was more of a fluke than anything, as proven by the fact that the Braves got spanked in every other World Series. You say with that rotation they can beat anyone anytime. Well they only won a single world series so obviously that's not true. They didn't make the Indians look like a t ball team. It was 4 games to 2 and the Indians absolutely slaughtered Maddux in Cleveland. Glavine pitched an amazing game in game 6. If they Indians had gotten a second look at some of those pitchers, like play them 10 times for example, their bats woulda come around. Plus the umpires were really giving them pitches outside off the plate. Instructions to umpires specifically were changed because of that series as MLB acknowledged this. You don't see pitches that far off the plate getting called strikes anymore. Look, Maddux and Glavine and Smoltz were great pitchers. And they did deserve a world series, but the Indians were a better team that year. They won 100 games for christs sake and lost only 44. To this day it stands as the highest winning percentage since the 1954 Indians won 111 and lost 43. That still stands as the best regular season in the history of the game. The Yankees won 113 but played 162 game schedule, 8 more than in 1954. So the winning pct. is the highest ever. The Braves deserved a world series, and they beat a better team that year. Sometimes you beat better teams. The Braves hitting absolutely sucked in all of those years. They didn't have even one great hitter.
@tylerstephens7152
@tylerstephens7152 5 лет назад
Tony Iacomi How in the world can you sit there and say the Braves didn’t even have one great hitter?? Fred Mcgriff? Chipper Jones? Javy Lopez was pretty good too. And as for the Braves losing the other World Series I would say in 91 the Twins had the advantage on a rookie team that was just getting their feet wet and the Twins proved the better team. In 92 the Braves made mistakes on the base paths and didn’t capitalize when they should and the BlueJays didn’t let up. In 96 we got way too relaxed and didn’t put the hammer down after a 2-0 lead on the Yankees and there is no excuse for losing that series. 99 the Yankees were on top of the world and didn’t have too many holes in the whole team vs a Braves team that was absolutely drained and done right after the NLCS vs the Mets. So yeah I agree we were 1 for 5 in the World Series and didn’t capitalize better. But don’t give me that fluke shit vs the Indians man come on! The Indians were a great team during the mid 90’s and kicked ass. But and I say but the Braves were just a little better and shut them down. Glavine gave up a total of 2 runs in 14 innings in 2 games that fall classic vs your Indians ok. That’s good enough along with Maddux pitching a complete game 1 and Avery pitched very well too. I love my Braves more than anything and loved that team in 95 and I just hate hearing that garbage about oh it’s a fluke or the Braves sucked. Well we were good enough to beat the Indians that year!

A lot of us only count pro sports with college championships being separated for not being at the highest level of the sport. But I'm sure in the south and Midwest that mentality is different. In the northeast, college sports are not as high of a priority because we don't have many great college teams around here and we do have many great pro teams.

A 291 batting average as a team in 95 for the Indians was no match for the best trio of pitching baseball has and ever will see again!
