I agree, it probably suffers from the fact that it only went 6 games instead of 7, otherwise it was a perfect sequel to the greatest World Series ever that took place in '91.

I'll say, it could have easily gone to 7 though. all 4 of the Jays wins were by a single run. but yeah, definitely an underrated world series that came right after what's considered the best World Series ever 1991.

The second of our four World Series losses in the '90s in Atlanta...which we all feel should have been only two World Series losses ('91 and '96 both got away)

Hentgen wasn't on the World Series roster in 1992. He emerged the next season as Toronto's 3rd starter, and a pretty decent one, too. But had to feel good about Key's pitching in game 4. Toronto's depth both in the rotation and the bullpen was just unmatchable by Atlanta. Both Key and Guzman had tremendous outings in games 3 and 4. Cone had a fine outing in game 6, and Morris had a decent one in game 1 (Morris's outing in game 1 would have been good enough to win most games Toronto played that season).

Ross Brooks the Braves had plenty of depth too but they elected not to use all of it. I always wondered why Cox didn't go with Leibrandt in Game 4--he'd had a solid season, 15-7, 3.36. Then he would have had Glavine, Smoltz, and Avery ready on regular rest for the next three possible games.

All that great starting pitching to match the braves and a MUCH BETTER bullpen.

steven cooke Yup. Maldonado caught the final out in the 1992 ALCS on a fly ball to left field Joe Carter caught the final out in the 1993 ALCS on a fly ball to right field. He also hit the 1991 AL East clincher on a base hit to CF. 2 Walk-offs clinchers, 2 final catches in clinchers. Man is blessed.

Taxi Talk NYC as a MN guy I was never a Jays fan but you couldn't dislike Joe Carter. He was one of the most cheerful, good-natured guys you'd ever see in the game. The only time I ever saw him without that wide grin on his face was when he was playing through an ankle injury in the '91 ALCS against the Twins.

Its really nice to see so many people still love and appreciate these WS videos and it wasn't just me. They were incredibly well done I would say from the mid 80s until around the early 2000s. They are still ok, I still buy them, but a lot of the newer ones I just watch once and that's it. And I don't know how to post the copy protected dvd ones.

william pavichevich I just thought about this and realized very few teams have clinched a WS in game 6 on the road at all. And the ones that have did not do so in any kind of dramatic fashion. There's 2003, Beckett shuts out the Yankees the whole game on 2 runs of support, that was a close game but there was no defining moment in that game like a bases loaded jam where it got super tense. 1981 Dodgers blew out tge Yanks, 1978 Yanks blew out the Dodgers, and that's about it. I know 1959 and 1951 WS were both 6 games too but couldn't tell you whether the home or road teams clinched, nor would I know if either game was close or memorable. So my point is, that 1992 game 6 had a very entertaining and very unique outcome that def is underappreciated. Of course we know it's all Joe Carter's fault.

Great world series but 91, 96,2001, and 2016 were better imo. Cubs winning in a 7 game series coming back from 3-1 was insane. The 95 world series as well with 4 games ending with a 1 run game.

They didn’t show on this video the very relevant stat. Nixon had batted .343 from the right side that season, only .263 from the left side. That’s why Key was lifted for Timlin-to make Nixon bat from his weaker side. So with that being the case, his biggest asset from the left side was his speed since he’s a couple steps closer to first base than he is from the right side. So his decision to bunt actually makes a bit more sense taking those facts into account.

Yeah I found that pretty cool myself. Len Cariou should have kept this job until the day he died. It should have stayed in this format. They changed it in 1998. I still think the 98-2001 videos were fun but I think they became more about hype and less about suspense. And over time they just became less and less memorable from there. I get the new one every year now but I usually watch it once and then it goes on a shelf and I never watch it again.

@@billny33 Yeah I agree. I have a box set from 2009 of every World Series DVD collection. The last World Series DVD I bought was in 2009 when the Yankees won the World Series. I've only seen the last 2010's World Series Documentaries on RU-vid or on MLB Network for Thanksgiving marathons. Some of them are good I just have no interests in collecting more World Series DVDs at this point in my life. If the Yankees ever win again that's going to be the only exception for me buying more World Series DVD films.

The twins had a solid 1992 season. Finished w 90 wins, 2nd place to Oakland. However from 1993 until the end of the decade they sucked.

toptenguy1 interesting thing is that years ago it would have done just that and the game would indeed have been over. It's the netting that saved them there.

He ended up getting the homerun ball in 1993. So it worked out. 25 years since that 1993 win brought me back here to watch these 2 wins.

Ricky Ma there's a really funny interview with Carter and John Kruk, in which Carter was asked where that ball is and he said he has it locked away "probably a little more secure than Fort Knox," to which Kruk replied "I know there's a couple places I'd like to put that ball!"

Not to mention that and the 90s Braves. This is weird because I feel like history sees the 90s Braves as the greater team when they actually won less World Series than Toronto and lost to them head to head in a WS. But yeah Toronto failed to be competitive from 94 on and the Braves kept winning division titles.

The Jays likely would have gone with Guzman. Different strategies by these managers. Gaston went with a 4-man rotation, using Key to start Game 4. The Braves easily could have used Leibrandt (who had a better season than Key actually) as a Game 4 starter to have the other three on normal rest, but they went with the 3-man rotation. So Guzman likely would have had a bit of an advantage in a potential Game 7 with an extra day's rest, although Glavine, as a finesse pitcher, is less vulnerable to shorter rest than power pitchers are.
