We've always wanted to lift Rob's Jeep Cherokee, but finding the money for parts that aren't strictly necessary is a challenge. Fortunately for us, a matching XJ showed up in a local junkyard with exactly the parts we were after! In this video, we'll pull the springs and other lifted suspension parts from the parts Jeep, and start the process of installing them on Rob's! Of course, nothing goes according to plan and it fights us every step of the way.
Timeline of filming: February 5th, 2021 - February 23rd, 2021
Song List (Order of First Appearance):
00:01 A Call Is Upon Us - The 126ers
04:47 Take Your Time - Dan Lebowitz
08:03 Summer Love - The 126ers
15:11 Birds in Flight - Dan Lebowitz
19:34 On My Way Home - The 126ers
22:35 Syn Cole - Feel Good

It's Jeep time! Maybe not everyone's cup of tea but these videos where everything goes wrong and we laugh to keep from crying are personal favorites of mine. In fact, this one had so many problems it ended up being too long and for the sake of my sanity I decided to split it right down the middle. The second half is an equal length episode and most of the major editing is done so I hope to have it out within two weeks. After that I have a lot of neglected car stuff I need to work on so I'm thinking of posting some mini projects or similar videos that shouldn't take so long to piece together. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy our suffering!

I kinda dig it how you show when these clips were filmed. Makes me wonder what I was doing on those dates haha. Does it feel good to finally use a clip you've essentially been sitting on for the past 3 years? Keep up the good work!

@@sir_whocampsalot2876 It is a huge relief to clear out old stockpiles of footage, it's like clearing out a closet and seeing the floor of it for the first time in years! Still plenty to go but have to start somewhere. Thanks for watching and for the feedback about the dates!

Fun fact: the factory rear sway bar link mounts can be repurposed as bar pin eliminators for the reat upper shock mount. They bolt right up! Also you can ditch the rear bar altogether with no real impact on the way it handles. I put a ton of miles on mine with some Upcountry package springs and a deleted rear bar. It rode (and handled!) exceptionally well. Also, with some finesse, you can use an angle grinder to cut the eye of the old spring to expose the bushing, a sharp knife to cut said bushing, and a hammer and chisel to open up the bushing sleeve. I bought mine in Moorhead, MN and there was no other way to get the hanger bolts out. For whatever reason the shackle bolts spun right out with no fuss.

18:45 Unbelievably, someone _has_ taken that drum off before. From the factory they have retaining clips around a wheel stud that holds them on. It is a reasonable guess that the adjusters aren't working though. Brake drum spider isn't doing his only job. 😅

I did the same thing witj my xj. I got the whole 5" lift from the pick n pull with a transfer case that already had a slip yoke eliminater kit installed. Whole thing was under $250. I ended up using the front driveshaft from a grand cherokee at the same yard for my rear driveshaft. Dirt cheap.

@FuzzyDiceProjects

Fair enough! The way I look at it, if the bolt is unthreading it's worth the effort to keep at it to avoid cutting sparks and welding slag related incidents. I usually prefer to keep that as the last option, even if sometimes it is faster. Also, nice to have the option of re-using a bolt that's in good shape!

Watching this made me realize I have mild XJ PTSD from doing the same job on my own hahaha. Boy those leaf spring bolts are the worst ever. My leaf springs were also bent upward AND I had a uhaul hitch on the back. That poor thing had been towing something way too heavy in a previous life. Must be one of those Jeep things I haven't yet earned the right to understand. Delaware sucks for rust, too. 😑

If you’ll heat up those nuts bolts etc then spray em down it’ll drawn into the areas you can’t get to. Used this principle for years in suspension parts etc etc just an idea but I don’t live in a Rust belt area so I don’t see it is much as others.
