Same thing, I snapped the bolts too. YOU MUST JACK UP THE TRANS TO HOLD THE WEIGHT AND REMOVE THE CENTER CROSS MEMBER SCREWS FIRST. THEN THE OUTSIDE CROSS MEMBER BOLTS COME OUT WHEN ALL WEIGHT IS RELEASED

Congrats! You are blessed with a GM 4L30-e transmission. They did OK in Gen 1 Isuzu trucks because the engines were weaker and the vehicles were lighter and they came with a gd dipstick. The gen 2 Isuzus are a little harder on them, especially the Troopers. A proper trans service kit for that application comes with a gasket for that little second "loaf pan" oil pan. Other variations on the 4L30-e didn't have that little pan, only the big one. It's best to take that little one off and drain and clean it up too. BTW, I *think* there's a plug on the side of the trans case that you use to fill. On my old Trooper ('91), I had the same difficulty with the trans cross member bolts breaking. I recommend renting a mag base drill press. You can install the two good bolts temporarily to hold the jockey plate still while you repair the broken ones. You might try successively larger left hand drill bits. Once you get close to the original bolt size, the broken off pieces may reverse out with the left spinning drill. You can get the error message from the transmission controller (the reason the trans light is blinking), which can help you figure out what/how to fix. IIRC, this vintage Isuzu used a transmission controller that is separate from the engine controller. While you get to read the codes from the engine controller using ODB2 methods, you can read the trans codes via ODB1 methods (the check trans light flashes the code out in a series of blinks). Pls note, you can clear the codes from the engine and trans controller by disconnecting the battery for several seconds. Isuzus have a rather strong niche following. Kind of like VWs. The people that love them really love them. There are a lot of online resources you can take advantage of. See also my recommendation for Isuzu Trader group on FB in a comment on your other Rodeo repair video.

Do you currently still have this rodeo? I am thinking about purchasing one for a work vehicle as well!

I do though it got tipped over accidentally exploring mines. I found all of the mechanicals to be excellent and all of the interior to be trash. For a machine where you are going to mash up the inside with tools it isn't a big deal.

why are you doing all that to change the trans fluid
@peterbrown1968

in the mornings I put my car in drive or reverse the car does not move. 2 minutes it will go good all day just in the morning it plays up.? what would that be low transmission oil
@acme663ryo
@acme663ryo 4 года назад
Maybe, all I can tell you is that flushing the transmission here didn't fix my issue. Better maybe but then mine wasn't as bad as you describe.
@peterbrown1968

@@acme663ryo Yes. It's a good chance your fluid is low. When it gets hot it expands. Follow the fill procedure in the video.

@@peterbrown1968 well after the flush it was for sure filled, I just think that it was starting to fail

what torque are the screws on the cover oil?
@acme663ryo
@acme663ryo 5 лет назад
I don't know, not much. 30-35lb tops would be my guess. Could be less. Just watch that you don't start to bend the pan.

Any troubles with the Transmission after this service?
@acme663ryo
@acme663ryo 6 лет назад
No more or less than I was having before. Certainly didn't make anything 'better'. I have only put a few thousand miles on the truck since this. Because it is a work truck they have been a hard few thousand but still only a few thousand.

NelsonStudios yah some say changing the fluid in these can actually blow the trans.

@Ojibwa62 x just wondering, heard people have troubles with this transmission after doing this procedure.

It would almost be easier to remove the whole engine - what a proper pain in the butt!
@acme663ryo
@acme663ryo 7 лет назад
It was for something that probably wasn't worth doing. Should have just added fluid and moved on.

A good fix for snapped off bolt heads is to place a washer around the bolt and weld a nut through the hole of the nut directly onto the broken bolt. The washer will help protect the surrounding metal. The heat from welding should also be a bonus by expanding the metal, breaking the rust bond between the parts, but to be safe you should spray some penetrating oil like Kroil on it after it cools, wait about 5 minutes and wrench it out. Easy outs can work, but it can take forever and much more frustrating.
