I remember this game. I was 15. Very inpirational to see Jerry and even more impressive to beat the eventual super bowl champs. Best game of the year for the 49ers.
An all time classic. This game was thought to be a Super Bowl XXXII preview, Rice returns, two Hall of Fame QBs duel it out, Romanowski spits in JJ Stokes face, and at halftime, Joe Montana the GOAT got his jersey retired.
Was so hyped for this game all day at school because my favorite player, Jerry Rice, was making his return. Then I was heartbroken again when he broke his patella. Epic game, though.
I would watch this game after I finish my homework from middle school. Man, I was hyped up to see the 49ers defense go after Elway, Davis and the rest of their offense. Especially my favorite player Kevin Greene.
Me personally i didnt, and i knew also in a way Pittsburgh wasnt going to the Super Bowl. I told everyone at school my friends it was gonna be Denver and Green Bay. But peep my lesson 😁
I still think that Chiefs team got overrated based off 1 blowout against the Niners. They played an incredibly easy schedule that year and you could tell they were obviously better than the 1995 Chiefs team that also won 13 games, but they were still missing a lead back and had no viable WR2. They were carried just as much by their defense as the Chiefs team from 2 years prior, and it caught up to them in the playoffs
I'll never understood why Jerry Rice came back as soon as he did. He should have waited until the playoffs where it counted. This team sorely missed his presence in the NFC title game. He might have been able to make a difference then. On another note, had the 49ers not gotten screwed in the NFC title game with some bad calls, they would have no doubt beaten the Packers and most likely beaten the Broncos too in the Super Bowl. The 49ers matched up well with them. We had the #2 rushing defense in the league that year. We even held Terrell Davis to 28 yards in this game on ten carries. Sure, the Broncos were getting hot by the time the Super Bowl came around, but I still think the 49ers would have beaten them. Terrell Davis would not have rushed for over 150 yards against the 49ers defense, let alone scored 3 touchdowns against them. He would've had a very tough day the office.
The next lesson is in ABC Monday Night Football game in Week 16 with the return of Jerry Rice as its a nightmare for the Broncos on a 3 game road trip the lesson is in the "Mile High No Limit Soilders "Tour continues in 1997 for Denver is : National Lampoon's B-Men Christmas Nightmare Vacation : Joe Montana's Homecoming Christmas Party 🎁🎄 🐎🐎🐎😁🎄🎄. The last two games for Denver has been nightmarish on the road despite already in the playoffs and host a home game starting last week with the Comeback by the Steelers and this game in which this team haunt Elway espically in Super Bowl 24, but with Joe Montana having his number retired at halftime passing notes all around as it was Reindeer games with these two as it was frustration all about on both sides in the beginning Uwaske fumbles on the kick return as George Stewart special teams coach of San Fran espically Bill Romanoswki spitting it In 49ers WR's J..J. Stokes faces, Terrell Davis gets his right shoulder driiled in the turf and left the game, and Jerry Rice return would be short lived as his left knee surgerilly repaired but on a bright side 177 straight games of receptions, and catch 166 TD's of his allustrious career with 2 TD's on the night, as 49ers offense got other weapons, like Brent Jones in his regular swansong Season swansong Season at the Stick ,Terry Kirby, with Davis out, Vaughn Herron have a big night getting 99 rushing yards with a TD, and Elway would get schooled completely left and right getting sacked only once 3 turnovers , and The dangerous defense of Merton Hanks with a INT for a 56 yardsTD and the " Duck Walk" lol 😂 and Kevin Green fumble recovery for a 42 yard TD as its the team 41th takeaway in 1997 and the Broncos Monday Night Party its was a complete incoming and get stomped and it was well....how the title describes but Santa sled arrives with the hourglass ⏳ for the Niners time is ticking on them and despite home field, clinching the division again before December, its gonna be an omen in the playoffs, as for the Broncos, theu bout to turn heads in the playoffs completely.......Make Em Say UGH! . End of Lesson ( Al Michaels, Frank Gifford and Dan Dierdorf & Lynn Swann on the call on this game 9:00 😁🎄🎁 ) .Class Note: Bill Romamowski got fined for spitting in Stokes face later that week, he got fined in the Week 12 game against Carolina $20,000 for a helmet to helmet with Kerry Collins resulted in his broken jaw, he was also throwing punches at Tony Gonzalez $42,500 two years later, all out a good player.
Yeah I thought Rice came back too early for the severity of his knee injury and should have rested an additional month, given that he coulda taken both this game and Week 17 off and the 49ers had the 2 seed and a 1st round bye. They could have really used him in the playoffs when the Niners failed to score an offensive TD in the NFC Championship
Jill Conner yeah that’s my bad haha, I shoulda known given that my Vikings were the 6 seed that year and played them in the divisional round instead of GB. Still wonder how a healthy rice woulda changed that GB / SF game
@@marcusmcgraw3519 I'm sure it would've been a more competitive game by the niners. But the pack just had their number! Just like Dallas had the packs u ber back then ! The real question is if the 49ers played the pack in 93 or 94 , would they have beat them ? I'll say yes in 94 but the 93 niners were average 10-6 luckily had a bye and green bay played Dallas better in the divisional round than the niners did in the championship!
49'ers for 9 seasons straight from 1990-1998 were a SB caliber team every season. Only one the SB once... it's hard as hell to win s SB and takes so much luck to get it done.
