1997 Ford Transit 2.5DI very cold start -13’C 

Oh yes now I would love to sit there struggling with this to get it started. That cranking sounds so hot

My 2012 Ford Transit 2.2L diesel is just as slow cold starting at -13C while our Mazda 626 2L diesel starts cold -20c like it is summer even after not being started for 6 months... I am lucky that I have not had need to start the car in colder then -13C yet, on rare occasion it can get down to -25c here (North Norway) and 2 hours drive inland it can get -40c ...

Sounds like the glow plugs were knackered

Would you know if it’s possible to just change only the thermostat on these or do I need to replace the whole housing as one kit? Thanks

Let those glow plugs warm up.. 2nd time u gave it more time. Oil most probably oil needs a change over as well. Maybe low on viscosity 🤔

Why were you waiting for the orange light to go out. Banana engines don’t have glow plugs?! The orange light is the fuel water content light....
