I am not the wonderful creature known as Nardwuar, I am however a fan who saw a reddit post about this interview. As a huge modest mouse consumer, I was shocked that I couldn't find this anywhere on youtube.
The original recording on Nardwuar's site contained about an hour of music playing before and after the interview.
nardwuar.com/m...
"An Interview with Issac Brock of Modest Mouse (Issaquah, WA) from August 8, 1997!"
Thank you for all of the amazing content you've been busting out for decades Mr. Nardwuar.

Laughing so hard at the 1812 bit. Isaac: "The Spanish still won the war of 1812." Nard: "Unfortunately, the Spanish were nowhere to be found-" Isaac: "Exactly!"

Serious question. Do you think if I emailed Isaac would he email me back? I wouldn't say anything stupid or put him on a pedestal or anything. I'd love to talk to him, even if it was just one response from him
@kevinhill6079
@kevinhill6079 9 месяцев назад
@houseatreides6683 Honestly... I don't know. I think it would depend on two things: 1.) The mood he's in. He's one of my idols, both as a musician and a human being, but I've heard he's a precarious fella. And, 2.) The nature and content(s) of the email. I'm sure he'd be more than happy to answer anyone who reaches out, so long as they do so with the respect due any other person (I'm also pretty sure he wouldn't dig the gushing fanboy nonsense). But I also think you'd have to engage his curiosity and/or interests. He's been in a successful band for 29 years, 26 of them as major recording artists; he's done literally thousands of interviews. That being said, I'd also keep the questions to a minimum, and not the kind of questions he's answered countless times in those interviews. He's always come off as contemplative and very appreciative of his fans. So maybe include what his music means to you, why it's so important, or how it's affected your life. I suppose an anecdote about an experience you had seeing him perform might also be of interest to him. All in all, if you want to email him, you should. Just make the focus of the email express how his music and poetry has touched you, let him know how much it means to you. Be sincere and succinct, but say what you feel you need to express. And don't take it personally if he doesn't respond. He has a life of his own aside from music, and your email will be one of (likely) hundreds, if not thousands, he'll receive that week alone. Whatever you decide to do, do so in earnest and with respect.

Woah, had no clue this was a thing this is amazing. EDIT: Nardwuar seems like he's trying to get Isaac Brock to confess to a murder. Love the Dan Galucci bit, that's like the unofficial fourth founding member of MM.

Did Narduwar just cast an extremely large net and interview anyone that he could? Do we just see the curated highlights of him interviewing bands that have held up to history? It’s insane that Nard has not only interviewed everyone, every band he’s interviewed was in the early days before they were household names.
@SaintMartins

@@SaintMartins True, I’m just extremely impressed by his track record of recognizing and seeking out interviews with legendary bands when they were nobodies, or one among many in a similar genre.

I mean, there were zines and an indie subculture that would all coalesce around certain bands, radio shows, and places, and he was very much plugged-in to all of that. Even if you didn't like certain types of music, you'd still at least be aware of these bands because you'd see their name around in zines or lists of shows.
@concorde__
@concorde__ 2 месяца назад
@@mymusicaljesussince when is a magazine called a zine? Serious question. I’ve never heard it before a couple of months ago
@mymusicaljesus
@mymusicaljesus 2 месяца назад
@@concorde__ the term "ZINES" is nothing like your regular magazines seen in grocery stores or book stores. It specifically refers to the various DIY/self-made/photo copied booklets that were published in the punk/indie music scene. you would typically find them at smaller indie/punk record stores, music venues, vintage clothe stores, and small coffee shops. They were usually distributed locally at those places and would be free, although sometimes they could charge a couple of bucks. Topics would vary but they usually revolved around the local music scene, upcoming shows, interviews, art, activism, veganism, poetry, interesting stories from gutter punks riding the rails across the country, whatever they wanted, etc. These were done out of love and didn't have ads or any real revenue coming in. Some would release monthly, a lot of them were infrequent or only lasted a few releases at most. They were almost exclusively presented in black and white because they were mass produced using a photo copier at a Kinkos (now FedEx), staples, or library. Because the Xerox machines weren't that great back then, they wouldn't look too incredibly clear, but that did add character to the whole DIY vibe. Most of them were hand written or were typed up on an old typewriter, using a computer was seen as too corporate because these zines were basically the antithesis of regular magazines, so the format of the finished product was created by having a lot of things that were cut out and then pasted on paper before they were placed in the photo copier. Do a Google image search for, "Punk Zines" and you'll get a better idea. hope this helps!

@SaintMartins
@SaintMartins Год назад
Cobain's interview was January 4, 1994 & he died April 5, 1994 so about 3 month before his death. Also it WAS Kurt's last "TV" interview as it originally aired on a local show in Vancouver, Canada called Soundproof. Kurt did at least 1 "magazine" interview in Europe before his death.
