1997 was PEAK Raiders of the Lost 90's. Thankfully, I missed most of the season in Marine Corps basic training down in San Diego. Would get letters from my best friend describing the many ways they would lose though.
@@chrisuncleahmad Absolutely...because they melted down late against the Oilers, Chiefs, Jets, Seahawks x2, and the Saints. And in the other games, they often just quit. All that talent and had no mental toughness. The 1992 team just wasn't as good...aging, terrible QB play (Marinovich/Schroeder, yuck) and the whole Marcus being screwed by Al deal. This team had TALENT. Lots of talent...but were dysfunctional as hell.
The 1997 Raiders were basically the 1996 Ravens. Exciting offense that put up big numbers playing from behind because their defense was so incredibly god awful
True, and Jeff George had one of his best seasons of his career but missed out on the Pro Bowl . After Week 9, Raiders crashed and burned more ways than one,but Tim Brown made history in receptions in the loss finale with the Jaguars.
The 1st Overtime gunfight of 1997 and the 1st of 2 for the Oilers. In this lesson of the Raiders and the Tennessee Oilers ( Yes, most of us werent used to saying that name) face off on doubleheader day on NBC/Sunday Ticket is : New Home, New Attitude Boilers 😁😁🏈🏈. Chris Chandler is not the man on the Oilers no more its offically now " Air McNair Airlines" with Steve McNair era beginning along with his co pilot Eddie George whos opening day performance of over 200 rushing yards is one of the best Week 1 peformances we seen from a running back since O.J. Simpson of the " Electric Company" days of the Bills in the 70's. The Raiders got new faces, one of Jeff George and new head coach former Cardinals coach Joe Bugel get into a tug of war at the Liberty Bowl at it lowest like the Astrodome in 1996 and continues in what Chris Berman called it in Memphis " Big Fedora" and George had a good day but the Oilers win in thier new home in OT with only 30,000 at hand. The Raiders behind George,Tim Brown, newely signed Desmond Howard who get on a good note, until Week 9 after that, a 4th consecutive losing season is upon the Sliver and Black as the season spins out of control more ways than one. End of Lesson ( Don Crqui and Jim Mora ( His 1st telecast) on the call on this game 1: 00 😁 ) . Note: Home games of the Oilers in 97 and 98 from the Liberty Bowl to Vanderbilt Stadium were " Blacked Out" locally in the Tennessee areas
