1998 Ford Expedition 4LOW Air Lift

In this video, I verify that the 4LOW drive mode on my 1998 Ford Expedition does in fact cause the vehicle to pump up its air ride height adjust to a greater than normal height to give the vehicle extra lift. This is a cool hidden feature on the vehicle and a clever way to increase off road performance for this vehicle. I hope you find this video interesting.

I appreciate it man. If you want It to last my biggest recommendation is change those plugs cause you need a special tool to get way back there and chances are if the vehicle came used they didn't replace the plugs. Coils. Or injectors. Keep that rig going for as long as you can cause they'll all be gone soon

Already changed plugs and coils. Not too bad. Swivel sockets help a ton. Haven't done anything with the injectors though.

Thanks for the informative video ! I have the same vehicle, EB 1998. In my opinion, they are wonderful reliable vehicles. This first generation 5.4 was a 2 valve, no cam phasers. I changed plugs and tightened them a bit more than specs call for, they’ve never blown out.

People don't realize that the 1st gen Expedition was just a 4dr Bronco. My 2000 Expedition is a beast in the sand and fits 34s with no lift. Too bad I don't have an air suspension. The extra 2 inches of height would be nice in a big sand dune.

They're damn capable rigs. Not much for sipping fuel but they're fun off road and come with lots of features you wouldn't expect!

Great video. The manual says nothing about this so you did me a favor when i was messing with 4 low and couldn’t figure out why it felt like my springs had turned to concrete blocks! Nothing else about this online that i’ve found

Extremely detailed and informative! Great video! We picked up a First Edition Bronco Sport to go off road and tackle these SoDak winters. It broke in less than three weeks. Our second loaner is a 2008 Expedition and we love it. We are thinking of getting one. Not exactly sure what year we want yet.

I would personally stay away from all years that have the 3 valve 5.4. they are decent performers but can be maintenance nightmares. So that would mean either 2003 or older or 2015 and newer. 😬

Right on! Ya I like the system to be honest. Never had any issues with it other than a relay went out. But that's no biggie. Good luck on your "unswap" haha

@@605BOLT Has it blown out any spark plugs? Is that why you called it "garbage" ? If you're one of the majority where you don't have the plug issue I've heard they're overall pretty good long lasting engines.....they definitely have some good power.

I say it mostly as a joke. Meaning it's high miles and I don't care for it like I should and it's dumpy haha. It's a true daily. To speak to your other point though, it has never spit a plug and it has been very reliable. I love the vehicle more than I should but I recognize that most people see it as garbage. But I would absolutely buy another and another and another. 👍

My 2004 Navigator has this feature as well, also it had the 4 corner air ride suspension, airshocks at every wheel with independent ride height sensors

My husband has a 98 Expedition at 48,000 miles and got it from his dad when he passed 🙏🏼 I've been driving it and looking into the details of performance because it's has options for 2L, 4L and 4h. I want to learn about this big daddy, as I call it lol 😂

@@abelrubio5409 man. I'm no help on that. Idk. I run stock size on mine. I'm the wrong guy to ask. And people will probably roast you if you ask in the expedition Facebook group haha. You could do a quick search there and see what you find. Otherwise the forums might have info.
