I watched this one when it was originally broadcast. Garrison Hearst was an underappreciated talent. Also, one of the best endings to a Niner game ever.
Thanks for polishing this up and uploading this, Dave! I remember this well. Garrison Hearst torches the Jets. The next day, the NY Post backpage said it all: “Jets Carried Off By A Hearst”. NYJ had a great year with Vinny at QB and Bill Parcells at the helm.
Been waiting on this one as this one was historic on so many levels, the first week of the AFC on CBS package in 1998, the Niners debut the gold shiny metallic gold pants, the Jets bring back their Super Bowl 3 winning uniforms, and Garrison Hearst has a beast mode day by the bay. Opposite of this game were the two big debuts of Peyton Manning against Dan Marino and Ryan Leaf against the Buffalo Bills before the start of the Flutie Flakes era. Awesome to see the CBS commercials in here as well, thanks Dave!
Greg Gumbel back on NFL play by play after 7 years in the studio. He was the lead announcer for CBS with Phil Simms for 6 years. Gumbel left CBS NFL coverage in 2022, Simms in 2023. 0:12 Nantz was in his first of 6 years hosting The NFL Today. 1:30:24 Sadly, Greg Gumbel never worked with Tony Romo. Thanks for posting!
I absolutely HATED when CBS swapped Jim Nantz and Greg Gumbel in 2004. Nantz is a studio guy unless it’s golf imo. He doesn’t belong on play by play. Gumbel was sooo much better
I remember this game - the Garrison Hearst run. I was at a bar called Lakeview Links in Chicago where I would watch football every Sunday with all the guys. Great memories!
Thanks, Dave! I'm playing the time machine game of watching this while having the game from Santa Clara on my TV. 2024 Niners up on Aaron Rodgers 13-7 in the second quarter. 👍
@@reverend_wintondupree I miss these Jets uniforms. I think the Jets are going to wear them as a throwback this year.... Their current ones are not it, even though I think their fans wanted the Jets to have those as their primary uniforms, which the Jets ended up doing. Seeing them in action the other night against the Niners, there's something about those uniforms where you're like, noooooo. LOL. The green pants with those might be a bad look.
I didn't mind these Niner uniforms. These are the Niner uniforms I grew up with and remembered them wearing as I started getting into sports and becoming a real Niner fan. Even though I like the 94 throwbacks, I kind of hope one day the Niners bring these uniforms back as a throwback as well.
I was working at Costco and was on lunch when we all saw Garrison Bulldog Hearst with that epic run on our 36” tv 😂 we went crazy. Shoutout foster city Costco
Also LMAO I literally just noticed that NFL Throwback posted the highlights to this game two hours prior - surely you're not trying to show them up, are you Dave? ;)
There is something weird in the air today. NFL"s Throwback RU-vid Channel Premiers a 13 Minute Condensed Version Of this Game the Same Day Dave Debuts The Enhanced Full Version Of the Same Game. Uncanny
Someone else brought this to my attention as well. Complete coincidence. I just got this game today and decided to work on the enhancement right away. I don't pay attention to or follow NFL Throwback.
The person in the television advertisement for Meineke is boxing legend George Foreman who was known for the Lean Mean Fat Reducing Grilling Machine which was known for knocking away the fat from meat while it cooks.
I can imagine the 3Com corporation, for all the dollars they funneled into Candlestick Park for its corporate branding, may have gotten annoyed by the local TV sportscasters that kept saying "Candlestick Park," or "the 'stick" when doing their televised reports during the '3Com Park' branding era. I never warmed up to the branding of the stadium to the 3Com name. I could sense from the TV sportscasters they felt the same.
That's it, huh? No "thanks for your work, Dave", just "what about the pregame"? Dave puts a lot of time and effort into each and every video and gives his all to present his subscribers with the very best version he can create. But that's not enough? Entitled much? Some people. Honestly.
Gee, thanks. It's pretty embarrassing that you not only couldn't say 'hey thanks for the game' in your initial comment or use the word 'please' when demanding to know where the pregame was, but then you STILL couldn't say 'thank you' when I called you out on it. Only when another person finally chimed in do you say 'alright, you win' and only THEN do you thank me?? Dude this isn't a damn contest. Being courteous should be second nature, especially when you WANT something and all this is being presented to you FOR FREE at my own expense. I don't make a damn dime off any of this stuff and have spent thousands of dollars out of my own pocket to make it happen. Entitlement to the max.
It was only one channel and there was horrible static throughout the entire thing. I used Audacity to correct these issues. It is miles better than what I started with.
