These games in 1998 and 1999 between Pitt and Penn State showed this was a still a rivalry. Pitt was not good during this time, but still put Penn State to the test. I believe they were a 25 point underdog in this game and still played Penn State tough. It was so good to see this rivalry renewed finally last year. After that game at Heinz Field last year, this is still a rivalry no question.
100% agreed, went to pitt from 1996-2000. Penn st brought out the best in pitt...finally picked them off in 00, Shut them out In fact! Also in the Last year of three rivers stadium. These games were a blast to be at In person also!
Orlando Tragic they never should have torn down Pitt stadium and just renovated it and build a new arena somewhere or renovate the Fieldhouse for basketball games. TBH I’m not much of a Pitt fan but more for PSU. Also the colors never should have changed the logo in 90s along with the colors. However PITT when their backs are against the wall as heavy underdogs they find a way to win but can’t beat team they should beat.
Pitt made a major mistake tearing down Pitt Stadium in 1999. For how much was spent they could have renovated both the field house and Pitt Stadium. I mean Cincinnati still plays on campus and their stadium is old and they renovated their stadium. Pitt didn’t have to tear down Pitt stadium. Pitt doesn’t have a campus atmosphere like Penn State does. That is what has killed Pitt football for years and Heniz Field is not a college stadium one bit. Sure they still get good fan and student support but have to go on a bus to Heniz, where as if Pitt stadium was there they could just walk to the stadium and have ALL the student there and be no excuse to miss games.
I cried when they tore 3 rivers and fort Pitt stadiums both down. I was sad when they tore Cleveland stadium down original dog pound. Did they tear riverfront stadium down too? They tore Perkins Tama Bay bucs stadium down too. They were going around tearing places down left and right that year. Those places were fine. I think they wanted tax write-offs or something.
