Binned my 460 cc driver and bought one of these 2 nd hand for £5 on eBay, love it to bits, wouldn’t go back now, such a great sound when you hit it sweet.

Loved this driver,To me it had and has a classic look. Choose it over the Big Bertha . Used is to shoot a 77 at Sawgrass. Still have that score card .

This Was Titleist, understated. Just like the DCI line of irons from the nineties, especially the "blacks". All business to the point of beauty without the makeup. Tigers X100 shafted version, yikes he could crush that thing, along with the Pro Trajectory 3 wood, or PT for short.

I enjoy your videos a great deal! Like you, I'm a "vintage golfer". I only play with equipment produced in the mid 90s to early 2000s. I picked up the sport in late 1999, and, to this day, playing with equipment from that bygone era gives me a feeling of comforting nostalgia. I simply refuse to use anything that came out post 2003. I find post 2003 equipment too futuristic for my taste. I love the 975D driver to death because my golfing hero Tiger (the GOAT) won the "Tiger Slam" with it in his bag. People often mistake my 975D driver to be a fairway wood because of its small clubhead. To me, the 975D is the perfect size, anything over 300cc is unacceptable. Here's what's in my Ping Karsten stand bag currently: Titleist 975D driver, Callaway Steelhead Plus 3-wood, Taylormade raylor 19 degree 5-wood, Maxfli Revolution (Black dot) irons 3-SW, & Scotty Cameron bullseye putter. I still have a box of Titleist Tour Prestige wound golf balls with liquid filled center, but I can't bring myself to use them on the course as I fear I might lose them. And I love wearing baggy polo shirts & pleated trousers & old school "saddle" style shoes, the sort of attire that Nick Faldo & Nick Price wore back in the days. By the way, the cartoonish "protracer" in your videos are simply ludicrous but super hilarious! Please make more videos!

I'm just getting into golf but I agree with you completely, I love the older clubs, I have the same 3 wood as you but my driver is a 976R and my irons are Ping eye 2s, I absolutely love them

He guys, I had the victory red Cavity backs and went back to my king Cobras gravity back irons and I hit 2 flags and in 2 separate tournaments came within 3 inches of a double eagle, flighted a 7 iron 157 into the🕳 & out on the edge. I will get my Ace! It's Coming!

Just get 2003 400cc head. It will make your life easier unless you are a Ben Hogan flushing it every time.

I will always own a Titleist 975d and 975J. Great feeling. Heavier but solid and an amazing sound when you hit the sweet spot. I also maintain a Biggest Big Bertha. I’ve owned most of the Titleist and TM drivers but when my game is off I’ll always pull out old faithful.... a 975 :)

I just bought a Great Big Bertha I found at Goodwill, and ordered a Titleist 975D. I absolutely love 90's drivers. Great review.

Great Video, Had this in 2002 still hit the 975D it's awesome and still hit this 280, I bought the taylormade M2 about 3 years back great club for forgiveness and hit this 280, I have to disagree the pear affect on the 975 as you have the club at address is pure beauty, as apposed to bling, I love the M2 as it was the next gen look but does look like a frying pan.

That was my first Titleist driver and have been hooked on them ever since. My favorite was the 983K which I recently put a new Fulikura Speer shaft in and it is a beast. I recently bought the TSI2 and it is just awesome. If I had to,put one in the bag for a make or break day I go to the 983K

People should try that driver in a 10.5 or 9.5 degree version with a s300 stiff steel shaft. It just feels so solid and heavy in just the right way. All the newer clubs are far easier to hit, but feel like a plastic toy. Most people also do not realize that back then you had to swing it very differently. Nowadays, people just make a quick arm swing like a baseball player, teeing it high up and flicking with their wrist, and being able to get a lot more inside. With this thing, the center of gravity was extremely high, even at that time, and that is why the pros used it, to keep it low like a bullet. I love this driver and the Big Bertha you showed, plus the old Taylormade 540xd and the also now illegal Cobra 430. 4 fantastic clubs.

I have to slightly disagree here, I think this Titleist driver looks really good. Titleist has a way of making simplistic and clean looking, gimmick-free clubs that still manage to look elegant. They don't need to add all the bells and whistles and strange features/colors that will look outdated the next year.

got my ol 975D out yesterday and found your vid while looking up a shaft replacement for it. For me, I hit this driver better than anything I've purchased after it (and it is cool that Tiger and other pros sensationalized it). Modern drivers have gotten ridiculously large and the bore-through shaft feels so much better to me. I used to have the Great Big Bertha too...fun times when the golf club industry came out of the dark ages in the early 90s, but now the marketing has become comical - i.e. Callaway's Mavrik "AI technology" - it may very well be good equipment but the price point is just too high ~ "It's the Indian, not the arrow", as they used to say - the 975D suits me fine and is nostalgic for me.

I’m a new golfer and I just bought one for my first set at play it again . If I’m honest I got it because it looked to be in the best shape and it was 13$. I hit it as good or bad as anything else .

TGIF!!! Another cool video. I wasn't a Titleist fan back then. At that time I was using my Wilson Invex driver which had a steel rocket shaft in it. I loved that driver! It spanked a golf ball. Pretty cool looking, at least I thought so. Anyway thanks again for this video and the memories. Can't wait til next week.

Great club. I have one in my bag now (with the stock Titleist Ultralight graphite shaft) along with a 917 D3. Currently I don't game a three wood and use the 975D as secondary option off the tee. I feel super confident with this club and feel like I know what it's going to do. My go to shot with it is a choked down 240 yard punch cut.

It was my first really nice driver and have had almost every driver I have owned since has been a Titleist. I loved it when I owned it and mine originally had the Dynamic Gold shaft which was reshafted to a True Temper EI-70 graphite shaft. Unfortunately the Pro V1s came out and that combination of ball and driver didn’t work for me.

Nice video. I have one and have gotten some good drives but frankly it's pretty hard to hit I think. On the other hand I just completed my 905 collection (r/s/t) and I'd happily game any one of them. Plus, one was free and the other two were $20.

Heavier clubs make me swing better, where lighter clubs tend to make me want to "hit", if that makes any sense... I have one of these in a 10.5 regular flex factory graphite shaft and I hit it five to seven yards shorter than a modern 460 CC driver but much straighter. The sound off the club face - well it sounds like it means business!

At the end of the day, the 975 is one of the best drivers ever made, X factor or not. I'd put it with the old 1970s Hogan Speed Slot and modem TaylorMade M2

I bought a Titleist 975J 8.5º, could you tell me which is the main difference with this one?
@TheVintageGolfer
@TheVintageGolfer 5 лет назад
My understanding is the J version is larger and the face is different - there is a center portion with no grooves. These are very interesting clubs. Thanks for watching!
@peterk.2772
@peterk.2772 4 года назад
R Alonso I own both. Both clubs are good looking in my opinion. The J is indeed a bigger head and the club face is springy. The J was advertised as having a draw bias built in. The club is 45 inches long. The D also has a draw bias according to Titleist. The D is smaller and has a more solid face. It makes a solid twack sound when you hit it. The shaft is 44.5 inches in graphite. I hit the J further than the D.
