To me that 10 speed really matches that engine because i've seen the 6 speed manual topped out really easy with alot of torque still available for more gears
@@marxxmann8758 I don't think you understand how gear ratios and how gear reduction works. The stock 6 speed that a 99 Dodge came with had an O/D gear ratio of 0.73:1 on a fuller Eaton 10 speed O/D (what the truck in this video has) has a gear ratio in 10th gear of 0.78:1 so the transmission in this truck actually "Tops out" sooner than the stock 6 speed. The entire point of a 10 speed is a gear reduction NOT an gear overdrive.
@js6729 so many people struggle with understanding transmissions and what final drive means lol I've explained the difference between the NV4500 and NV5600 probably a million times, and it always falls on deaf ears. Same with the difference between 8,9,10, 13,14,15,18 speed transmissions lol
Man , no matter how many times I watch this vid it is just as cool as the time before!!😀👍 I used to drive class 8 semis and tri-axles and I still think this is freakin AWESOMEEEEE!! Sir you should be extremely proud of your rig, I know I sure as heck would be!!!🙂👍
Nice little dozer he has as well. Case developed the 6BT and the 4BT along with Cummins to go in there equipment. Will never be a better diesel engine built than those two.
***** Actually no I still rebuild my transmissions at regular intervals and they show no signs of additional wear. As long as you don't force the trans into gear and rev match properly it causes no issues
The 6-sp manuals they put in with the 24v are actually great transmissions, I believe they were the only one the could handle the crazy torque of the Cummins. Now if you're talking about the Getrag 360 5-sp in the 1st gens, those aren't known for quality.
@@levilatham4701 well the nv45 and 56 and g56 are great, built 48s are great, literally only the early ones were bad, besides the sticks in the Duramax and powersmokes really aren't though at all
@Nippsta Collins no, it’s a 1 ton truck pulling close to its weight limit and depending on the state if your over a certain weight or a certain length then you need to have a cdl, educate yourself before making comments
Really simple conversion just hunt down the parts, looks like he is using a RTO overdrive 10 spd due to the U shifting pattern verses the standard H pattern. Good stuff!
I love all the know it alls and haters maybe he wanted to build his truck this way as everybody else builds theirs to look like the next guys and there's nothing wrong with the stacks at least there on a working truck not some mall cruiser with 24s and a huge lift that don't go off-road or tow anything and as you see his mirrors are up cause he's towing not because he wants to look cool lol
"His mirrors are up cause he's towing not because he wants to look cool". The LAST thing these kids look like when they have their tow mirrors out on a 1500 mall cruiser is "cool". They look like morons!!
The mirrors up give the best visibility of blind spots regardless if your pulling a trailer or not. So I don't feel bad for thise who don't flip up their mirrors then side swipe someone on a motorcycle or in a small convertible and get their asses sued.
I have been thinking of doing a ten or thirteen conversion to my 95 3500. It's a hay hauler and a equipment mover..and I also drive commercially..but I love the setup man! Post some more videos! I can't get enough of them!
@@ldbrush9941 I have an NV5600 in my 02 3500 with 4:10's I would absolutely LOVE to have a 10 speed in that truck!!! Don't get me wrong, the six speed is a great trans, just that it needs more gears! When towing on the interstate, you have to drop to 50 MPH before down shifting to 5th ! I mean for Christ sakes, they are putting 10 speed automatics in F-150's What the fuck do need a 10 speed in a half-ton for anyway???? But you can't barely even buy a standard trans truck anymore! WTF is wrong with these manufacturers ? they say their trucks will haul 30,000 pounds, but you can only get an auto?
10 speeds sound cool for a pickup, but the thing is if you can't pull the weight with the factory trans, then you don't have the brakes to then slow it back down effectively. Work within the total mechanical limits of your rig, not just base it on power and gears. If you gear it right, that 6bt cummins can pull 100k plus, but obviously handling and braking are effectively non existent.
the most beautiful thing I've ever heard Cummins love ... and that transmission is super .. Too bad you don't have photos or videos of your modifications ... greetings
what gear ratio are you running. whats your rpms at 70 in 10th gear. i swapped my auto for a g56 on my 05. truck is sweet! your model truck is the best looking truck dodge made. in my opinion that is.
I just love when he steps on it right at around minute 4:01.. sounds beautiful!! I’m so curious to know how did y’all fit that Eaton fuller under that frame, what kinda mods or tranny kit did y’all have to do to or use to make it work?
No, it's a 10 speed with an overdrive. In a fuller 10 speed if you add an O/D direct drive stays in the same position and the O/D takes the place of 4th/9th gear.
Clutch?? We don't need no stinking clutch. Ok except for starting out. Then the beauty of floating through the gears. Listen to that beautiful diesel purrrrr
You have a real nice truck. I was just wondering if the truck was really that weak that you had to put the 10 speed in or if you was trying to make it just a little better and stronger? Cool truck. Its good to see the older trucks still on the road.
Wow that Cummings Engine sounds so sweet together what a nice package and I see you can walk the gears now that's awesome great job thanks for sharing. I have a Dodge Ram 1500 that I'm pulled the junkies automatic out of and I'm putting a 5-speed into right now, too bad you didn't do the build video I would have loved to see how you did it, I imagine it's just a adapter plate modifications to the Driveline and rear end change?
Seems like a nice set up, lovely smooth shift,I'm curious as to what motor you got mated to the Eaton 10 speed, sounds a bit deeper than the 6 litre job, or would that be that lovely stack you've got on it that gives it that nice growl.
Now that’s a cool hotshot truck! I didn’t know you could put a semi transmission behind the 12v Cummins. Do you run an air compressor for the hi/low selector?
its that an electronic transmission cause never see you use the hi-low selector and also you will need of course air to run a regular 10 eaton transmission please reply
