2003 F150 XLT , my window was stuck down. Saw a vid of the hammer fix on an older Ford, needed info removing door panel on this gen. My '03 was very similar . Removed the panel, as the window was down, hard to get to the motor. Small access port up front, a few clumsily taps. Nothing. A few more and some hits on the rivet heads to transfer the strikes to the motor and it worked ! Took a few minutes and lubed the window tracks I could reach while I was in there. I had the same issue, the door lock button was trapped behind the door panel so no locks until I saw the knob was not showing out of the hole. Some clumsily fiddling and all is well with the locks again. Thank you for the video. I'm a motorcycle guy too and have videos on bmw lock cylinders. Cheers .
Hey thanks for the response. Sounds like the vid helped out. And that's all i want. Avoid a dealership or the equivalence at all costs. Keep doing things yourself. It's a wonderful thing to be self sufficient.
Thank you! I bought a 99 F150 two days ago. Seller said the passenger window was stuck down for more than a year. He would cover the entire cab with a tarp to keep out the rain/snow. The night I bought it I found your video. It rained the next day so I had to wait until today. Followed your instructions and bing bang boom, window works! Thanks again bro!
I've been suffering with TWO inoperable windows for several months now thinking I was going to have to replace motors, etc. Stumbled across this video this morning. BOTH windows are working flawlessly now!! I also took the opportunity to lube the regulators while I had the dust covers off the door panels. Thanks!!
At approx.1:22 the screwdriver is almost in the groove in the handle escutcheon, the groove is designed for inserting a tool. The Pax side window often sticks due to lack of use.Good video young feller, thanks!
Lubricate the weatherstrip channels that touch the glass with silicone spray. Can do with the door panel on, and will reduce the drag that wears the motor out. Panel off, put grease on all moving parts and tracks you can reach with your finger or old toothbrush. Then hose the rest with a spray lube like white lithium grease or penetrant or cable lube. The motor will sound happier if its saveable, and the glass will slide like new!
Thank you so much. This video saved me so much money. I tapped the motor with a hammer, and at first it didnt work but after i closed the door it rolled right down! :D
The passenger glass on my 2001 f150 sounds like it’s breaking when rolled up an down. Also the tint gets scratched up at a certain part. My hunch is that it’s “off track”. I plan to get in there and look for myself thanks to this video!
SlowrThanThe2ndComin I tried. Getting the panel off was very easy after watching this. But I couldn’t visually determine the problem. I think the mechanism is bent. I might end up taking it in for the repair.
I'm having trouble with my 01 f150 4door while putting in a new car stereo. it got to dark to continue so I was gona roll the widows up but now they will not role up door locks and mirrors work but none of the windows will work .have checked fuses inside and under the hood. what can I check now
hi, my window motors work, however the actual glass came unattached from the mechanism. how does the actual glass stay attached to the mechanism. I have a 2001 Ford F-150
Hi Sherry, Typically, this is the result of the window falling off the window "track". The window sits on this track which is raised and lowered by the actuation of the door windows electric motor. Often, removing the door panel as I do in this video, will allow you access. Once the door panel is removed, my best guess would be to: 1) Roll window/track down or partially down until window track is visible 2) Use the perforations in the door to push the glass upward by hand 3) Re-seat the bottom edge of the window onto the window track 4) Test window to assure operating properly It's possible the actual window regulator (complete motor and mechanism which lowers/raises window) is loose. This could have allowed the window to vibrate off the window track. Be sure and check the window regulator is battened down/ all nuts/bolts/screws are snug. Using loctite is advised. Hope this solves your window woes!
99 f150 driver side window won't come down. When I press the button I can hear the relay switch clicking in the panel under the fuse box. what is the problem
Hey Noah, at the time I made this video I was only looking for a quick solution to a stuck window. And somewhat to my surprise, it turned into a quick fix as the symptoms never reappeared (two years, then sold). I'm more of a "do it right the first time" type of person but I also have encountered on occasion more issues when implementing invasive solutions. If I were to do it again, I would "rebuild" the window motor...or more simply just grease what needs lubricating.
Window motor has a plastic gear with rubber cusions. Over time cusions fail leading to the gear to go bad. The jump trick is temp.. fix that gear is done. Door lock is shot. Water drips on motor and rusts it shut also.
Hey thanks for peaking my interest in hand tool nomenclature. Looks like flathead is acceptable. I found this on wiki: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_screw_drives "Screw Head - Slotted The slot screw drive has a single slot in the fastener head and is driven by a "common blade" or flat-bladed screwdriver. It was the first type of screw drive to be developed, and for centuries it was the simplest and cheapest to make. The slotted screw is common in simple woodworking applications, but is not often seen in applications where a power tool would be used because a power driver tends to slip out of the head, potentially damaging the surrounding material. The tool used to drive a slot is called a common blade, standard, flat-blade, slot-head, flat-tip or flat-head/flathead screwdriver."
