So, I blew the original engine in this Ranger in 2020. In 2022, I had an independent shop replace the engine with a used one. The first engine was rejected when delivered, the second engine was installed and blew the spark plugs out of the head on initial startup due to an undisclosed heli-coil fix in the past. The third engine was amazing, but developed a crack in the cooling jacket on the passenger side of the block. The shop ordered a fourth engine, but this one has been overhauled to new condition. This is where I am, 6 months of waiting, and now 1 month of troubleshooting. Much more content coming with this Ranger, so stay connected here…

There's a pair of pliers from TEMU that spreads vacuum hoses to remove them. To check the purge valve, warm the engine and at idle, there shouldn't be vacuum at the egr. Raise the idle to 1000 rpm and there should be vacuum. Lower the idle to idle and the vacuum should stop. If there's vacuum at idle with the engine warmed up, the purge valve is bad.

Still in the shop. Engine swap was under warranty, so they are negotiating with the supplier right now. Believe me, I want to know.

I pulled the head off of mine a few weeks ago. Cylinders 3 and 4's exhaust valves were so sunken in, you can tell just by looking at it. This is from a remanufactured engine (2.5 liter form my '99 Ranger) that I bought from AutoZone, only put 31,000 miles on it.

They are replacing the head under warranty. There was a defect in the re-manufactured head from the rebuilders.
